Aust's contribution to IMF small - Swan

Sunday, April 22, 2012 » 05:03pm

Australia's $US7 billion ($A6.8 billion) contribution to the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) European bailout package will help stabilise any further deterioration in the region, says Treasurer Wayne Swan.

The IMF said on Friday it had raised more than $US430 billion in an effort to assure finance markets that it has sufficient firepower to handle any new problems from Europe's prolonged debt crisis.

Mr Swan said Australia's contribution was 'very small' compared with the total amount raised.

'Our commitment is proportionate to our representation on the IMF,' he told ABC Television on Sunday.

'Many other developed economies have made far larger commitments than the commitment that Australia made.'

Other countries contributing to the fund include Singapore ($US4 billion), South Korea ($US15 billion) and the United Kingdom ($US15 billion).

The IMF bailout fund will ensure 'far greater certainty in the global economic outlook', Mr Swan said.

CONTRARY to popular perception, these figures are NOT representing "gifts" to Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy - or any OTHER floundering EU economy

They are LOAN PLEDGES to the International Monetary Fund

I'm never sure if this main-stream media ERROR IN REPORTING is the result of IGNORANCE - or a DELIBERATE MISLEAD

New IMF Loan Fund Tops $430 Billion
Friday, April 20th, 2012

The International Monetary Fund says it has raised more than $430 billion in new reserves to combat future economic troubles around the world.

The international lending agency had set a $400 billion goal for a new rescue fund, in part to combat the possible global economic fallout if the European governmental debt crisis worsens again.

IMF managing director Christine Lagarde said the agency won several new loan pledges on Friday, including from China, Russia, Australia, South Korea, Singapore and Great Britain.

Would you donate your hard earned money to this lot of criminals?

Gillard will do it on your behalf. Doesn't that make you feel all warm and fuzzy?

Nice of the Government to ask us before throwing 7 billion the IMF's way and I read that only adults here can get access to the drugs that slow multiple sclerosis. The kids just have to let the disease rip though their system, because the Government isn't funding them.

Good one Labor, seems you've got your priorities all in the right place.

What's that Julia?...tic, toc..tic..toc..tic..toc..Oh yeah, that's your time running out.

I must keep this post for future reference.

There will no doubt be another request for a donation before the entire eurozone and others fall on their economic swords.

Can't wait to see what the Libs give out.

Libs like the IMF don't they?
