Hi FD,
Is it possible to give the person who starts a thread
moderator rights - only on that thread?

That way people who don't listen to warnings can be stopped
from posting just on that thread?

Maybe it's not a feature that is in the software you're using?
If not - I wish it was.
I've had trouble with certain people invading my threads
& writing total nonsense.

It is my thread if I start it.
By starting a thread I hope to discuss a topic properly -
that includes answers to all questions.


When a troll or flamer turns up I don't want to report it
to a moderator - I should be able to give the
offender a warning - ask for an apology -
& if I don't get that I should be able to ban them from my thread.

In this way - threads would be self moderated instead
of whinging to moderators.

Exactly why i rarely start one as i simply don't have the time to be their. But moderation needs to be independent. The end was when i challenged the page founder over advertising a dating page on a thread about rape.

Yea never mind i had been pushing hard for a bit, the moderator was getting a bit narrow and i went for them so i became a target. You get that. I was welcome back but refused after the advert, they only need admit it was not good but they had no control and all was ok but no i was a naughty boy and had to be punished.

Should the person who starts thread moderate it?  I think not.  You would end up with too many moderators and the place would be a bit of a mess.  Another consideration would be that you would have to offer everyone the option, otherwise it would look like there is a certain measure of favouritism.  Which of course could mean Deathridesanorse becoming moderator of all those meaningless threads he starts up.

A forum I once frequented had the rule that a person who started a thread could request to have it locked, and that was usually granted of it went off topic. The purpose of that forum was different to this one though.

It's academic - the current forum software wouldn't allow the original  proposal even if it was desirable.
