Title: Newspoll: we don't trust Gillard
Post by Armchair_Politician on Apr 17th, 2012 at 7:49am
Julia Gillard has slumped by 17 points from from 61 at the 2010 election to 44 last weekend. Tony Abbott's trustworthiness is still well ahead of Gillard by 10 points; he is currently at 54 points.

Gillard's satisfaction rating has slipped to 28 points, while her dissatisfaction rating rose to 62 points. Abbott's satisfaction rating, on the other hand, rose to 35 while his dissatisfaction rating fell to 54 points.

Coupled with Labor's primary vote being 29% with the Coalition on 48, this is very grim news indeed for the ALP! I don't know about anyone else, but I don't see Gillard or Labor coming back from this.  :)

Labor doesn't care. They want Abbott as PM. Labor wants to lose enough Senators, so to Give Abbott both houses without a contest.

Otherwise Gillard would be demoted A.S.A.P

Too right! That's the reason GayBob slunk off - he doesn't want to shed tears after next election results.

Christine Milne will shoulder it better, she'll just bare her teeth like a ferret -  she is practicing already.

total rubbish .. it would be the most humiliating loss they have ever had..and to suggest they want to lose is pathetic..maybe you think that lets the greens off the hook for jumping into bed with them..

Why do you refer to one person as "Gay Bob", yet do not call the other "Straight Christine"?

What has sexuality got to do with this topic?

we are heading into a major economic collapse, world wide.

Labor wants to hand over to Abbott, because he will force Australia into depression when this happens.

Liberal will then suffer a landslide loss and probably then die out and parties like the Greens and Independents will take the place of the old parties.

politics on the policies, not the people.

Then logical politics will begin.

We should have elections every two years for the good of democracy, so the people have even more opportunity to judge their leaders on their character and performance...especially senate terms should be shortened... ::)

The Australian people will deserve everything that they get if they vote in an Abbott government. If they're too stupid to actually realise how good we have it now, and fall for the right-wing media propaganda and hysteria, then too bad for them. The problem is, though, it's going to affect all of us.

Maybe when you're a bit older, you'll have a bit more wisdom. Bob Brown, the Greens and Labor are acting in the interest of all Australians with this carbon tax, it is going to help climate change and give us a clean energy future. People should not vote for Tony Abbott. He doesn't care about climate change, and the future of our country.

Hard to follow with all those boxes but whoever said, 'They look forward to Abbott stuffing it beyond recognition'.  Really you don't have to wait for that. Just open you eyes and have a look around you.

This Country is already on fire and burning down under GILLARD and LABOR.

I think you SHOULD !

Is your accessment based on the lowest rate of unemployment in the developed world ?

Or, perhaps, Australia being the ONLY O.E.C.D partner NEVER to have gone in to recession - from the onset of the GFC ?

Or, perhaps the highly praised - and highly successful - stimulus packages, designed by the "World's Best Treasurer" ?

Wayne Swan lauds latest IMF forecasts
April 17, 201211:23PM

TREASURER Wayne Swan says the latest assessment by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) shows that Australia will outperform every major advanced economy over the next two years.

In its latest World Economic Outlook, released today, the IMF said it believes global prospects are improving, although downside risks remain.

The improved outlook has been driven by an increase in activity in the US and better policy responses to the European sovereign debt crisis, although it expects the euro area to enter a mild recession.

It modestly upgraded its world growth forecast for 2012 to 3.5 per cent, from a previous prediction of 3.3 per cent in January when it released an update statement.

"Despite the impact of ongoing global uncertainty and uneven conditions across sectors, the IMF expects that the Australian economy will outpace all major advanced economies over the next two years, with forecast growth of 3.0 per cent in 2012 and 3.5 per cent in 2013" Mr Swan said.

The Washington-based institution is also forecasting Australia's unemployment rate to remain low at 5.2 per cent in both 2012 and 2013.

"With solid growth, low unemployment, contained inflation, strong public finances and a record pipeline of business investment, the Australian economy is the standout performer of the developed world," Mr Swan said.

The only thing Abbott will achieve is a 3 word slogan ... exactly how do you think he will achieve anything? It can't be based on his detailed policies, because he HAS NONE. ... I think Abbott missed his calling, he should have gotten into advertising, he's very good at the 3 word slogans ....

Australian economy leads the world
Jessica Wright
April 18, 2012 .

Australia has the strongest economy in the developed world and it is expected to outperform all comers for at least the next two years, according to the International Monetary Fund.

The IMF - which issued its World Economic Outlook in Washington overnight - said it expected the Australian economy to expand by 3 per cent this year as fiscal tensions from Europe and the United States continue to ease.

The body stated that after a major setback last year with the Eurozone crisis, the global prospect of far more stable financial conditions was gradually improving.

The update said that it expects the Australian economy will outstrip growth over all other advanced economies over the next two years, noting we live in a region where exposure to troubled European banks was less than for other parts of the world.

But it also warned that Australia was exposed to risk if economic conditions in the Middle East caused another oil price spike.

The organisation revised up its global growth forecasts, with the global economy expected to grow by 3.5 per cent in 2012, up from 3.3 per cent in the January update.

A forecast of global growth of 4.1 per cent in 2013 has also been revised up from 3.9 per cent.

Global growth continues to be underpinned by solid growth in Asia, the report said.

China's economy was expected to grow 8.2 per cent in 2012 and 8.8 per cent in 2013, while India was expected to grow 6.9 per cent in 2012 and 7.3 per cent in 2013. These forecasts were broadly unchanged from the IMF's January update.

The IMF also forecasts Australia's unemployment rate to remain low at 5.2 per cent in both 2012 and 2013.

"With solid growth, low unemployment, contained inflation, strong public finances and a record pipeline of business investment, the Australian economy is the standout performer of the developed world"

The government has hit out at Opposition leader Tony Abbott for ''getting it wrong'' on the IMF growth forecasts.

During a morning doorstop, Mr Abbott said the IMF report showed the local economy was ''underperforming'', as they had downgraded the economic growth forecast.

''It forecasts 3 per cent for the current financial year and it looks like we are going to get 2 per cent,'' Mr Abbott said.

''This is an underperforming economy and it's underperforming because of the poor economic management of the current government.''

But Mr Abbott's assertion was not correct, according to a spokesman for the Treasurer, who said the growth forecast of 3 per cent in 2012 had been the same since the start of the year.
