The carbon tax is going to force up already too high electricity bills, making life very difficult for those who try to survive on a low income...

Coal electricity will not decrease in cost, it will rise and rise. Real renewable electricity are coming down in price. For example, ore requires oil and peak oil will lift coal electricity costs further and further up. Sunlight, wind, geothermal hotrock etc doesn't have the same peak oil input so will decrease in cost next to coal electricity rising. To achieve lower electricity prices in the future, we require structural change now : via a carbon tax. Liberals want to lock you into rising electricity prices to keep the coal billions happy. i.e Clive Palmer |

Not that I'm telling you to do it, in fact I am not. But it is a fact that if a heavy duty magnet were to find its way near that pesky little wheel that wracks up your bills ...then dagnabit...that pesky little wheel would slow right down...How about that huh?
Now I know no one would do such a thing, I would definitely not encourage it. If a meter reader finds one there you'll be in strife..You've been warned right! |

While I do not have the actual readings to hand, I would assume that the meter is OK. It, and all other electrical fittings, were brand-new only 26 months ago, when the whole complex was renovated. Seriously, my bet is on the fridge being the culprit, as it is an older model, and probably not very efficient, hence its being earmarked for replacement. Hard to pull the money for it from a limited budget, though. |

You suprise me. But I have good news. By choosing an energy efficient fridge, and ensuring good ventilation at the rear, you should able to completely offset the cost of the carbon tax on your bill, but its reduce usage. A fridge probably is your biggest consumer of electricity. Also consider going to a time-of-use meter. Judicious use of that can also bring significant savings, an you sound like a thrifty type who could use it to their advantage. You could make a tidy sum out of this if you are smart. |

Electricity prices are likely to rise much further than the 23 per cent hike flagged by WA’s economic regulator after Premier Colin Barnett dismissed calls for cross-subsidies for country towns to be scrapped.
The Economic Regulation Authority released a long-awaited report yesterday into the tariffs of State-owned electricity retailer Synergy, showing households were still paying significantly less for power than it cost to provide. According to the ERA, consumers would have to pay 23.1 per cent more power before prices reached “cost-reflective” levels, driving primarily by the need to remove the discount applying to prices and the incoming carbon tax. But the authority, which is the Barnett Government’s top economic adviser, said tariffs would have to rise far higher if the Government did not axe the subsidy paid to keep prices in remote areas artificially low. The subsidy, which is worth almost $200 million a year, comes from a levy imposed on all customers of Western Power’s network, which sprawls from Kalbarri in the north to Albany in the south. It wants the levy scrapped and the difference paid out of consolidated revenue, which is collected by the State Treasury from all tax bases. The ERA said keeping the levy would add a further 7.3 per cent to bills if the Government pushed ahead with its vow to implement cost-reflective pricing, meaning that household tariffs would need to increase more than 30 per cent. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/latest/13355505/power-prices-to-rise-more-than-23-per-cent/ Power bills have doubled under the Coalition government to pay for their bribes to the National party and it is set to get worse....No relief from Coalition Governments when it comes to paying higher prices.....The Coalition does not care about low income earners in WA!!! |

The Coalition have been forced to admit their lies to the West Australian public.....You lot in the East have not seen what you are in for with this lot!!!
:) :) :) Barnett in retreat over power bills Premier Colin Barnett has been forced into a backflip over claims that Labor's break-up of the old Western Power had pushed up energy bills, conceding it was not to blame for a series of massive price increases. A report by the State's economic watchdog last week dismissed any notion the four-way carve-up of Western Power in 2006 had contributed to electricity price increases over the past three years. The Economic Regulation Authority said the claim, which has been touted by the Government as a driver of tariff increases, was wrong and prices would have needed to rise regardless of the split. "The authority considers that the 57 per cent increase in electricity tariffs in recent years was inevitable, regardless of how the disaggregation of the old Western Power was structured. That is, regardless of whether Verve Energy and Synergy remained as a single government trading entity," it said in its report. Mr Barnett and Energy Minister Peter Collier have repeatedly blamed the previous government's decision to split the monopoly electricity provider to justify massive price rises since 2008. Faced with questions over the ERA's finding, Mr Barnett acknowledged the carve-up process had not played a big part in price increases of 57 per cent since in 2008. Instead, Mr Barnett pointed the finger at the previous government's decision to freeze tariffs, saying it had saddled the energy utilities and taxpayers with almost $1 billion of extra debt. However, when in Opposition, the Liberal Party agreed to a four-year price freeze in laws that allowed the break-up of Western Power into four separate businesses. Mr Barnett also vowed to push ahead with his widely publicised plan to reunite electricity generator Verve with retailer Synergy, claiming there were "gross inefficiencies" in the current market. Shadow treasurer Ben Wyatt said Mr Barnett was becoming "increasingly erratic over major policy areas" and suggested he was more interested in attacking Labor than good policy. Mr Wyatt was also scathing of the Premier's plan to reunite Verve and Synergy, saying it would be a costly disaster. "This bloody-minded obstinacy is looming as a threat, not only to the energy sector but also to the overall finances of the State," he said. |

The carbon tax is just a small factor in power price increases most of it is because of the high price of coal because of exports and replacing aging inefficient infrastructure.
In the long run a small tax now will be much better than a huge tax for our kids and grand kids. For those that think electricity prices wont keep rising as coal is dug up and sent over seas and eventually runs out..your very short sighted. Surely there is no one alive that thinks we shouldn't do everything we can to wean ourselves off dirty, inefficient, finite fossil fuels before we are forced to do so in an emergency situation. |
