Yeah its already signed
Further reading Thing is we werent consulted (as the people) and this "agreement" is behind the laws and attitude of the govt towards internet that we will be seeing form now on. ISPs forced to spy on their users and other draconian pieces of legislation are either underway or already implemented. SOB |

It never was, PP, but they seem to think it's OK nowadays. I tend to disagree with that. The right to freedom should always take precedence over the desire for safety. No matter what. |

Wel my question is what can we do about it? As far as I know ACTA doesnt come into effect until Europe signs. We cant really influence that though. Then after that we get all the new laws that make us compliant with it. SOB |

Good question, the answer: Not much. Stopping something like acta would take a lot of people standing up and saying enough is enough. But considering how lazy we all are and how most of our population has been brainwashed into thinking that standing up for your freedoms is something only 'poofters' or 'hippies' would do we don’t have much chance. ACTA is only one brick of a large wall the government is building to isolate the public from its freedoms over the other side. It’s already too tall to climb and they are aiming for the sky. ACTA is a bill which will develop over time, a bill like this never gets passed in its entirety, they will add on bits here and there over the years. It scares me how compliant people are. |

This is the scariest thing about ACTA. It isnt a bill really its a "trade agreement" which will be behind all the legislation to come. It creates the "need" for it. Its firggin scary is what it is. "freedoms is something only 'poofters' or 'hippies' would do we don’t have much chance." Heh nobody wants to be called "rent-a-crowd" SOB |

The Americans have finally awoken to the danger, and are
fighting back against this sort of BS, with some success. Meanwhile, we simply sit here and take it up the ass as usual. ACtually yeah. the americans have woken up to it but too late imo. They are fighting the aftermath the SOPA and PIPA and the newest one CISPA. They are going to keep coming with this because Obama signed ACTA some time ago without congress approval. They knew about it but they couldn't do anything about it (congress). The americans are almost as powerless as us against it imo. Its going to come in on the back of something irrelevant in the end but it will come in unless something drastic is done. ACTA is under the guise of "anti counterfeiting" and completely misleading. > Signing ACTA was a crime. No more, no less.
Quite true, but only one amongst a plethora. I'll stick in my two cents worth here. As a long-time FOSS/Linux user I'm well acquainted with issues about online freedom. The Electronic Frontiers Foundation (EFF) does most of the leg-work here, but it's worth knowing about two other things that are major obstacles to what the GDG is after: IPv6 and the DNS. These are complex technical issues, but can be explained simply for those interested. A useful simplification would be to say that the ideal First Attack would be to impose geographical borders on the Inet, but DNS makes this difficult, as does the IPv4 currently in use. IPv6 should have been here by now, and one reason it's not is probably because they're trying to figure out how to f**k you with it. |

What precautions and alternatives are there for people to maintain their privacy and anonymity on the internet, the Government spying on me does not sound right.

> What precautions and alternatives are there for people to maintain their privacy and anonymity on the internet, the Government spying on me does not sound right.
First up, much of the media stir is FUD - Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt - the ongoing psychological war. Second, most privacy breaches are self-inflicted. Anyone who posts their details on Facebook is, bluntly, an idiot. Third, anyone still using Microsoft is equally stupid. The presence of an NSA gateway in Windows has been documented for a decade ("How NSA access was built into Windows" by Campbell 1999), and most home machine breaches occur via Outlook. There are NO viruses that succeed with Linux, and very little spam. The coming deluge will be with "cloud storage" as the sheeple race to embrace it. Go to BlackListedNews (adding the dotcom) and look for an article on Google Drive. Bear in mind that ALL electronic communications are now stored on gigantic NSA servers - there's been one in Sydney since the late nineties - and send anything private by snail-mail. Other than that, it's just a matter of waiting to see who wins the looming battle. |

Title: Re: ACTA Post by Spot of Borg on Apr 29th, 2012 at 9:06am
ACTA is not a law. It is not a breach of privacy. It is not in itself a threat to anything. What it is is a trade agreement. Under a misleading title. An agreement to bring in laws and breach privacy and whatever else. ACTA is the main reason so many countries are getting these new concerns with technology and privacy. They have to bring themselves up to the standards specified in the agreements.
Its not just the internet in there either. We are going to start finding less and less choice in medicines too. SOB |

A useful clarification. > Its not just the internet in there either. We are going to start finding less and less choice in medicines too. And food. Family farms are rapidly disappearing in the US, and the same is happening here, being bought over by TNC agribusinesses. And water. Fresh (i.e. potable) water resources are now prime targets of TNC acquisition. They haven't yet figured out how to buy the atmosphere, but I'm sure they're working on it. Keep breathing whilst it's still free. |

I am not buying it, you have zero credibility standing up against Government abuses in fact you cheer them on and are an apologist for them. Could it be that you are afraid this one little change could allow vast quantities of evidence to be stored which one day could be used to bring down the vast world Mafia we call the global economy that you love so much? |

This legislation is crucial for collation evidence of online conspiracy by organized political thugs to commit crimes against humanity, Democide and Genocide. This legislation could one day make possible a future prosecution similar to the Nuremberg trials should such a human catastrophe occur again and bring such monsters to justice. Evidence of a crime should never be subject to privacy protection, that is an abuse of the principle - nothing to hide, nothing to be ashamed of - don't bother me... 8-)
