I wouldn't dismiss Matty as quickly as the others though.  The problem with Matty is that he's so one eyed that he often leaps to conclusions without even considering what the other side might have to say.  He can be a it repetitive at times too, but I can't help thinking that there is intelligence in there that's trying to get out....

Shouldn't people be free to express themselves however they like? Sure, it can be irritating at times but maybe that's just how they feel about a particular subject. Maybe they felt that they have no choice . It's all they know. Maybe they just don't have the vocabulary to express themselves any other way. It is an anonymous Internet forum where people will take privileges that they normally wouldn't. Not everyone here has a university degree and maybe they weren't part of the school debating team. If you think your above that, fine, then act like it. You can choose to ignore it or not. Not everyone here interprets what they read the same as you. Something that you may have been said with good intentions, can be interpreted wrongly and offend the person reading it, they react in a manner that then offends you. I just think that on an Internet forum you have to expect all sorts and you can't take things personally. I know I myself have let loose if I felt the other person overstepped the mark. I also try not to take offense if they have a go at me because I may have inadvertently offended them. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.  We each have different boundaries and with this type of social interaction, stepping on peoples toes is par for the course. Sure, ideally an intellectual debate at all times would be great, but i don't think it can happen all the time on this type of platform where anyone from all walks of life can join in. Everyone's standards differ.

Me too.  I figured "if ya can't beat 'em, join 'em" at somewhere around the 4000-5000 post mark.  Troll me, I'll troll you back.  It might be petty and immature, but I don't have the option of slapping you silly through da interwebz, so thats the only avenue open to me.

1) This is essentially a Political site & as such there are quite few who are ardent supporters of various party's &/or ideologies, which immediately sets those with competing views against each other, setting up an "us & them mentality"!

2) The human race has never been that successful at disagreeing with each other, whilst remaining on good talking terms!

Unfortunately, if moderators suspended/banned everyone who made the usual sort of barbed comments, then it would usually end with this or any other similar site having very few members and eventually ceasing to operate, which I have already seen happen in OZ & in the USA.

I would suggest that the best course of action, is to disregard the usual -
Credible
Reliable
Abundant
Paradoxes

But, if it goes too far, then report it by way of PM to the relevant Mod/s of the day and let them try to exercise some "influence" with the offending poster/s.

That said and I still do it myself occasionally, we all reserve the right to clearly tell someone they have gone too far & they should pull their head/s in!

Some 'righties' I can get along with, we can disagree without making it personal
(looking at you, Longie, and a couple of others), just as I can do the same with
some of the more 'out there' lefties (Woody need not apply).

Hell, I even talk to Deathridesamoped and Bill Crany,  and have even agreed with
Hicksie on many occasions. Smithy (Hitler in a Head-set...CLASSIC!!!) is probably
one of the regs whose views most closely resemble mine, and I remember that he
was always the same fair and open-minded bloke on Blahoo when I first got into
this forum concept.

Could I be any MORE unbiased? I doubt it.

Maybe I'm just 'Flavour of the Month', I dunno.

Mate, I could not agree more.

I rarely come on here, there's just too much petty bickering, childish name-calling and nastiness. This should be a place where we discuss the issues and politics of the day, without resorting to such childishness and immaturity.

The really sad and pathetic thing is that most of us here are well beyond our youth. You wouldn't know it from reading a lot of the posts here. I don't understand why you single out Matty and Blackadder, though. Neither is anywhere close to being the worst on here.

I can only assume a lot of sox were used there and they carried it over to here. A friend of mine was a sys admin at Yahoo. By the end they had so few unique users it just wasn't worth it.

I bailed early in 2009 when he told me just how few real people were on there compared to the IDs posting.

On the issue of multi sox, if someone needs to log in to back themselves up with different user names it still doesnt change the obvious, the obvious being they are either right or they are wrong.

Mellie, Juliar, Longweekend, Matty,  Fred even Cods. Nails has accused me of being someone else. Pansi says she knows who I am. Gist has called me Mellie. It's all a bit much really.

We're all Mellie, Blackadder, some more than others.

And many of us here support Matty.

Actually, if I'm not mistaken, I've seen a number of threads with you communicating with each other.

How could you possibly be Matty? You'd have exactly the same opinions.

I think it would help if a lot of the criticising of each other stopped, to be honest..

pick on the topic and not the personality..

can you imagine how boring it would be if we all agreed on everything..

some people are down right cruel others are petty..none of which is called debating.
