Liberal calls for policy debate as Coalition MPs clash over funding priorities
Jessica Wright February 29, 2012 - 9:22AM Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has clashed with backbenchers over his paid parental leave scheme. A Liberal backbencher has acknowledged that the opposition is letting down its voters by withholding the details of its policy agenda from the public. :( Queensland MP Steve Ciobo last night said that he believed the Coalition needed to move the political debate towards policy-based issues. ''I don't think I'm letting the cat out of the bag when I say people feel that we are not being proactive enough in terms of outlining the policies that we would bring into government,'' he said. ''I think we have scope to talk about the great initiatives we've got and we do have some.'' His comments came just hours after it was revealed that Opposition Leader Tony Abbott had clashed with backbenchers over his paid parental leave scheme. Victorian Liberal Russell Broadbent and Queensland senator Sue Boyce raised concerns that the ''Rolls-Royce'' scheme would dish out funds to the rich while leaving in doubt secure funding for the proposed National Disability Insurance Scheme. :( But Mr Abbott said he was ''welded'' to the $2.7 billion per year scheme, to be funded by a levy on big business. ''If you think we're back in the days of the Hills Hoist and the Victa mower, we're not,'' Mr Abbott told yesterday's joint party room meeting. ''It's not a welfare measure; it's a workplace entitlement. Shadow treasurer Joe Hockey has made it clear that the Coalition would want to be satisfied that the budget bottom line was in order before allocating money to policy areas such as the disability insurance scheme. :-? The weekly meeting of Coalition MPs and Senators also resulted in a senior Liberal senator lashing out at his colleague and calling him a ''f---wit'' during a discussion about cut-price milk. The NSW Liberal senator and farmer Bill Heffernan used the expletive to describe the Victorian Liberal senator Scott Ryan, who favours cheap milk. Sources said the Victorian Liberal MP Sophie Mirabella then leapt to Senator Ryan's defence, telling Senator Heffernan: ''Why don't you go and pop your Alzheimer's pills.'' Mr Abbott has repeatedly said he will not be pressured into revealing full details of the Coalition's policy pitch before the next federal election. :P In an appearance on the ABC's Q&A program last week, Opposition Deputy Leader Julie Bishop said the Coalition had spent ''a great deal of time'' on fully developing policies "across the board". She echoed Mr Abbott saying the Coalition will only reveal its master plan of ideas when the election is called. ;D "We have been working very hard on policies across the board,'' she said. Ms Bishop indicated the Coalition would dismantle parts of the Fair Work Act to give employers greater flexibility. But Ms Bishop was careful not to involve herself heavily in debate of workplace policy when challenged by activist Eva Cox who accused the opposition deputy of returning to a Howard-era frame of mind. "We made a mistake with WorkChoices. I know that. We know that." :-[ Read more: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/political-news/liberal-calls-for-policy-debate-as-coalition-mps-clash-over-funding-priorities-20120229-1u1q6.html#ixzz1nnoIoeQv |

Since lib's little bitch has released their policy platform, why haven't the libs?
Sure, 75% of gNats policys are filled with attacking Labor and another 24% on flakey statements like "we want research into algae" I would say 1% has potential. If what's his face can release their polices, then why can't Abbott and the Libs. |

If Libs are serious about a trifecta of loses then continue to expect no respect under Abbott, ignorance over how your lot will fund a $70 billion hole, lack of explanation of that $11 billion black hole in your last election promises and a past year of total negativity. black hole in Libs fudged election funding at the last election by 11 billion and refusing to explain why they did this ... and now wanting to pull the wool over everyone's eyes by an even greater amount next election.
Libs are policy void in most areas ... and in others, they refuse to explain their released policy's funding and details. Why should Libs expect any respect while they continue to play hucksters. |

Get rid of the carbon tax. Get rid of the mining tax. Get rid of around 12 thousand public servants. Restore the private health rebate, for the well off. Cut back on this, cut back on that. These are some of Mr Abbott's plans. :(

Should Share investors expect smaller returns since Liberals are holding up investments by business and so decreasing profit. Should super funds cut their income potential because business cuts theirs because Liberals want to play cat and mouse. Should Australians slash expected returns from their super payouts in retirement because Liberals want to play cat and mouse. Should the unemployed live below the poverty line because A. liberals oppose lifting their payments and B. Liberals are causing uncertainty in business creating jobs because they are holding investment back. Is this Liberals true aim here, destroy Australian society and hoping everyone blames Labor. |

Greens got a carbon price through because just prior to the last election, polls were pointing to a good chance of a hung parliament and Greens holding the balance ... the Greens who have been, who are, and who will be into future elections, clear about what we stand for. Australians knowing the Greens and knowing we were likely to get a hung parliament, went into voting booths and cemented this into our current parliament. Australians voted for Greens (and Independents) as a form of punishing the games the two old parties play. In part because both oppose real action of catastrophic climate change. After the election, to Gillard's Labors credit, they heard this message and changed tact. The only two reasons polling has slipped for action is A. Labor's incompetency with releasing the carbon pricing scheme, their lack of ability to sell it, their hypocrisy in Durban and their hypocrisy in pretending to support action on climate change while attacking renewable energy. and B. Liberals / right wing press / and shock jocks using Labor's incompetency to stir up something out of nothing concerning a small tax on polluters, for the first stage of shifting the Australian economy towards long term stability. |

Greens have not lied in they have bee the leading party for climate action, for renewable energy, energy efficiencies, in food security, in water security, in economic mangement, in defence, in protecting agriculture from foreign buyouts, from destruction via coal seam gas and from GM crop pollution.
Greens have had and still have, their policies for everyone and anyone to read. Greens have and are achieving their aims. Liberals have no other aim besides slashing business profits, wages, super payouts, share dividends, jobs and destroying Australian living standards. |

Liberals don't have there 'own press'. And those 'shock jocks' aren't right wing. Otherwise AJ wouldn't be banging on 5 days a bloody week about Coal Seam Gas, and Hadley wouldn't be sticking one up Barry O'Farrell on his morning program about one thing or another and his list grows. Nor would Hadley have rung the former NSW Labor Transport minister on the eve of the last NSW election to thank him personally for all his good work for NSW, and to tell him that he was one of the few effective ministers in the government. And that Hadley was sorry to see a such a fine minister get chucked out with the rest of the Labor garbage. It's not the media's fault Green, Federal Labor has been so dysfunctional and incompetent for so long. These guys are paid to comment on daily affairs as they see them. Those 'shock jocks' play it straight down the line, and always have. And your list at A. of Labors incompetence should have started with Labors removal of a working policy to substitute it with a failed one back in 2008 where they have gone from one disaster of their own making to another. As for 'stirring something out of nothing concerning a small tax' shows how little your comprehension is of the mainstream electoral anger directed at Labor over such a blatant lie, and the anger continues. And this majority will make it's feelings known at the ballot box. |

It is Tony Abbott that wants an election now and he wants the Australian people to vote for the Coalition.....Tony Abbott will be exposed when he has to release his policies and have them scrutinised by the electorate.....Lets not forget before the 2010 election the Coalition claimed their policies all added up and where audited by the fourth biggest accounting firm in the nation.....It was during the election we found out that the Coalitions policies did not add up and where up to $10 billion dollars short of the mark.....Not only that doughnut man Joe Hockey claimed the Coalitions policies where fully audited and took offense to any criticism or claims that it was not the case.....Since then of course we have learned that the Coalitions policies where not audited and the accountants concerned where reprimanded for failing to clarify they did not audit the Coalitions policies and in fact merely checked to see if the numbers added up not if the assumptions where accurate or that the claims being made by the Coalition could be verified and confirmed as a proper audit should do!!!
Doughnut man Joe Hockey has claimed he will not allow the PBO to cost Coalition policies and will go down the road of using a private accounting firm once again.....So when it comes to honesty and integrity where it really matters in delivering sustainable policies to the Australian people the coalition are proven liars and incompetents.....This is where Abbott will fall over and fail once again in the face of delivery and substance.....$70 billion dollars cannot be ripped from the budget without services and delivery being reduced and it cannot be covered up with clever accounting tricks.....Abbott is going to stuff the Australian economy and deliver nothing to fund his tearing down of revenue based policies and promised delivery of high end tax cuts.....How can Abbott be trusted when he refuses to cost his policies and will ony confirm more money for the rich and powerful and less for those in society that reallly need it??? |

Why has Tony Abbott just said NO to protecting workers' entitlements. And who supports this, and why?
Last night Tony Abbott and the Coalition announced that they will say 'no' to legislation that would ensure workers are able to access their entitlements where directors have abandoned a company, said Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, David Bradbury. The Corporations Amendment (Phoenixing and Other Measures) Bill 2012 gives the corporate watchdog, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), the power to order the winding up of abandoned companies. Directors may try to avoid having to pay employee entitlements by simply walking away from their company and leaving employees in limbo, without work and unable to be paid salaries or access redundancy and other entitlements. Workers can access the Government's General Employee Entitlements and Redundancy Scheme (GEERS), which ensures that workers can receive their entitlements even if a failed company cannot meet its obligations, but only if a company has been placed into liquidation. http://ministers.treasury.gov.au/DisplayDocs.aspx?doc=pressreleases%2F2012%2F009.htm&pageID=003&min=djb&Year&DocType |

Abbott is under no obligation whatsoever to release any policies until an election campaign is called. Last time, the Labor Party literally stole half of Howard's policies anyway so you can see why they wouldn't. |
