Yeh that's why the worlds only superpower is getting themselves whipped by a small resistance movement in Afghanistan. Which according to the US's own reports only consisted of a few thousand members... remember that one do we?

Can you elaborate please Abu? I am interested to know what a great Islamic victory looks like.

20 dead Americans? That is a great Islamic military victory? We get more Australians dying on the road every Christmas. More Muslims die each month from coconuts falling on their head.

20? That is not what this website says:

http://www.icasualties.org/OEF/index.aspx

2905 US-led soldiers killed in Afghanistan...and that does not even include mercenaries! Throw in the number of US soldiers who are permanently disabled, and you are looking at tens of thousands.

4804 US-led soldiers killed in Iraq...and that does not even include mercenaries! Throw in the number of US soldiers who are permanently disabled, and you are looking at tens of thousands.

Cost of attacking Muslims countries to US economy since 2001?

$1.307 trillion.

OK then, can you tell me what it might look like if the Muslims lost? Just so we can put this great victory into perspective.

For a start the U.S wouldn't be begging the Talibaan to negotiate with them.

Title: Re: Who is whipping who?

So the difference between a great Islamic victory and a loss depends on which local Muslim groups the foreign occupiers talk to?

Not say, the presence of foreign military bases, the ability of foreign armies to come and go as they please, the ability of foreigners to dismiss and install governments at their discretion?

Not even whether those foriegn forces feel such sympathy for the locals that instead of waging conventional war, they actually help to rebuild the nation, set up civil administrations, elections etc?

Does this mean Muhammed established his caliphate by getting whipped by every tribe he came across?

Title: Re: Who is whipping who?

U.S can go whereever they please? LOL!

You're a victim fd.

They are being whipped, and like with the Soviets before them, they've been economically and politically ruined by their little escapade in Afghanistan.

The U.S will be withdrawing very soon, and handing the country back to the same people they took it from, ie. the rightful government, the Taliban.

The consortium of warlords that the U.S have currently installed will then slinker back into their little corner in the remote northern region, where they can practice their despicable inhuman acts upon one another.

Other than who gets to sit at the table with the occupying forces while they figure out what to do with the country, is there anything significant that distinguishes a great Muslim military victory from a loss?

Is your great victory more of an imagined one about what might happen in the future rather than something that has actually happened?

Title: Re: Who is whipping who?
Post by abu_rashid on Feb 29th, 2012 at 6:04am
The Taliban are not sitting at any table with the invading scum.

I see. You got me there.

So the difference between a great Islamic victory and a defeat is not who gets to sit at the table with the occupying forces while they figure out what to do with the country, but rather who gets invited to sit at the table with the occupying forces while they figure out what to do with the country?

Any other subtle differences I may have overlooked? I appreciate you helping me learn to identify a glorious Islamic victory where the invading forces try to spin it to look like they won.

Title: Re: Who is whipping who?

fd.. The aim of the U.S was to remove the Taliban and "limit the ability of al-Qaedah to operate". None of these have been achieved, in fact quite the opposite.

The Taliban are more popular in Afghanistan than ever, and are in the process of booting the U.S out, al-Qaedah still operate as they did before and have spawned "inspired cells" all over the world, in fact the U.S only seems to have given them publicity. The "Battle for the hearts and minds" has been an absolute disaster. The Muslim world, once in awe of America now despises her, and most allies even lost confidence in her.

The U.S instead of having an economic resurgence from the war has ended up having a downturn, which has spread to the entire Western world (except the Rudd-led country of Australia).

Perhaps that's a "victory" for the U.S in your mind?

The Taliban had little to lose, so the very fact they've managed to hang on is a great victory. The fact they could hold their own against the sole world superpower is nothing short of miraculous.

Title: Re: Who is whipping who?
Post by freediver on Feb 29th, 2012 at 9:33pm
So hanging on is the great victory? Couldn't they have achieved the same thing by going home and waiting for the Americans to leave?

Also, AQ got plenty of publicity with 9/11 and also demonstrated their ability to project power. Since then it all seems downhill. Their operations have only gotten smaller and the Taliban cannot even fight off fellow Afghans. Isn't it true that their ability to control Afghanistan is far less and they will soon be in a position of fighting their own countrymen in a desperate attempt to regain the country, without the Americans even being present?

Would it be fair to say that all they have really achieved is forcing the Americans to stay in Afghanistan for far longer than either the Afghans or the Americans want?

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have absolutely nothing to do with the current economic problems around the world. The cost of these wars is small beer compared to lending to people who can't repay their loans, be their Americans, Greeks, Italians or Irish.

The only reason they are hanging in there is that the Americans went in for 'nation building' rather than eradication. It would take about 4 weeks to financially and militarily strangle Afghanistan, if the Americans put their minds to it.

1906 Americans killed in Afghanistan in over a decade.
The Americans probably lost more lives in 1 day on the beach at Normandy compared to 10 years in Afghanistan.
The death toll from 1 day at Pearl Harbour is probably higher than what the Americans have lost in over a decade in Afghanistan.

The Taliban kill far more Afghans than coalition troops
2009- 1533  civilian deaths caused by the Taliban
2010- 2038 civilian deaths caused by the Taliban
2011 - 2332 civilian deaths caused by the Taliban
2009- 2011   The Taliban caused 5903 civilian deaths in this time period

In 10 years the Taliban killed 1906 American troops
From 2009- 2011 the Taliban slaughtered 5903 Afghan civilians.

The numbers show the Taliban is far more efficient in killing Afghans than coalition troops.

Yes, it does it take great bravery and courage, for moslems to attack a school full of teachers and students.

Clearly.

Otherwise [being ISLAMIC warriors], they would not attack schools, and murder teachers and children.

Abu,

Moslems murdering moslems.

How do moslems justify such carnage ?

Is it because the victims are not considered to be moslems ?

So that killing moslems, but calling them 'infidels', is OK ?

Even when the victims of this ISLAMIC violence, are moslem children, and their teachers ???

Allah's law IS VERY CLEAR.

Moslems, must never knowingly kill another 'believer'.

Neither. Islam promotes education for all. If there were elements of the Taliban who opposed this before, then they did so against the rulings of Islam. Everything they seem to be saying now suggests they are not against it. And even before when they were in power, they did permit women to goto school and to work, just not as widely as males. The West lied black and blue about this, yet some Western aid workers who visited Afghanistan during the Taliban's rule, confirmed that girls schools did exist.

This is really a non-issue. The Western propaganda machine just harps on about this to distract people from the real issues. Just like the nonsense about kite flying.

Actually I was looking for a claim of responsibility _from_ the Taliban, not from Western propaganda outlets.

Yes we all know the Western propaganda outlets claim all manner of atrocities in the name of the West's enemies, but given their track record of outright lying, I don't think it's worth the electrons it's printed on.

I think it is important. Why do you think education is so unimportant? Or is it only female education that is unimportant? The Taliban has done immense harm to a genration of Afghans by denying a basic education to so many of them. Why would they seek to make the place even more backwards and ignorant?

Also, you still have not explained why it is not a victory for the west. In my opinion it is something really good that has come out of the war on terror.

1996-2001 Taliban rule
In september 1996,The Taliban took over Afghanistan's capital and immediately imposed restrictions on Afghan women.

Restrictions aimed at making women safe from the attacks and abductions that had been widespread under the rule of Western-backed warlords.

They were forbidden to work.

Untrue, the Taliban themselves employed women in areas such as healthcare, police work, and customs/immigration work. The Taliban were reportedly considering lifting some of the restrictions on working in other areas before the US invasion.

not allowed to seek medical help from a male doctor
The Taliban had a policy that women should seek out female doctors and nurses first, and if they were not available, then a male doctor could be seen.

forced to cover themselves from head to toe even covering the eyes.

In the urban areas, due to the rape and abduction of women by Western-backed warlords. By 2001, as safety had improved, the Taliban were beginning to relax the rules on clothing.

Women who were doctors and teachers were forced to be beggars and even prostitutes in order to feed their families.

You can't get your lies straight. Women were not allowed out without a male guardian, or they were out prostituting and begging? Make up your mind.

During the rule of the Taliban, women were treated worse than in any other time or by any other society

What a load of crap. The Taliban provided security and safety.

Before the Taliban arrived, Afghani women were being killed, raped and abducted by US-sponsored warlords.

We have seen similar situations in Europe, like when the Soviets occupied Germany and raped 2 million women.

I suppose you think that Jewish women were treated well by European Christians in the 1940's. The Nazi sex factories, and death camps were a stroll in the park.

The Christian Serbs and their rape camps.

The Taliban provided safety and security and were attempting to improve the difficult circumstances that the Afghan were in.

Does spraying acid in face of girls who attend school improve safety?

Why not leave it up to the women to decide for themselves what safety precautions are necessary? If it was the western backed warlords who were raping these women, why did they need to be 'protected' when the Taliban came into power?

Are these all lies?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taliban_treatment_of_women

Women seeking an education were forced to attend underground schools, where they and their teachers risked execution if caught.[4][5] They were not allowed to be treated by male doctors unless accompanied by a male chaperone, which led to illnesses remaining untreated. They faced public flogging and execution for violations of the Taliban's laws.[6][7] The Taliban allowed and in some cases encouraged marriage for girls under the age of 16. Amnesty International reported that 80 percent of Afghan marriages were considered to be arranged by force.

Ummm.... first you'd need to show the Taliban did that.

Because the West continued funding these beasts right up until they finally brought them back to power.

Clearly, these accounts don't come directly from Taliban spokesmen.

Therefore it is certain that these accounts are just slanderous lies against ISLAM/Taliban.

ISLAM is so en-mired in its own deceit and its own projected falsehood, that it is impossible to seek clarity and truth, from any ISLAMIC source.

Unfortunately for their own credibility, moslems are well known to be inveterate liars.

So it's the west's fault that the taliban were one of the most oppressive regimes on earth for women? It must be convenient for them to not be accountable for their own actions.
