Title: One Day Series! Post by philperth2010 on Feb 12th, 2012 at 11:50pm
Great game tonight and a well deserved win to India without Tendulkar.....This series is shaping up to be more even than the Test series.....Anyone care to tip a winner....I still favor the Aussies to win the series???

Ponting Captain while Clarke recovers from a hamstring strain.....Why???
Australia cannot be worried about missing the final and I see no reason why Warner should not have got the nod or even recall Haddin who has proven he is a very good player......What benefit is there in appointing Ponting as Captain??? |

The benefit comes from the smarts he has acquired capataining the australian teams over the last ~15 years. Clarke played under Pontings captaincy for close to a decade before becoming captain, it wouldn't hurt Warner to learn a bit more before being thrown in the deep end. A few years ago he was a club cricket nobody. Can't see any reason to even suggest recalling Haddin. What you got against Punter? |

I like Punter and will always consider him one of Australia's greatest players....but Ponting is a crap captain IMO who has had his day at the top....It is time to blood the youth and think of the future....Perhaps Haddin has had his day however I think his hunger deserves another chance!!! |

He lost the Ashes 3 times when he had the team to win......IMO that is the measure of a good captain.....Winning the big games that count.....Perhaps I was a bit harsh considering his longevity however Border and Taylor where better captains IMO!!! |

Well he lost once with the team to win and twice we were simply down particularly on the bowling attack. the future problem is in the batting ranks but with hope their are some good young batsmen around who might just make the difference.
Ponting is the logical choice. There is no young player that makes any sense just yet and why use Hussey, he has not done well. Punter is more likely to maintain what Clarke is trying to achieve and there appears to be ongoing good will between them so he will do the job well. India will continue to do well in the one day game but the method of pulling it out with a couple of big overs at the end is dangerous when the big games come at the end. Australia to win with the home advantage. |

He will play test cricket as long as his form is OK. As for the argument about the captain of the 1 day side, as it was just a fill in, I would have let D or M Hussey do the job for a while. But he had to go. There are just too many young blokes waiting for a chance. In 18 month we have 2 x 5 tests series back to back with the Poms. Time to look forward. So I would not include Punter or Huss in the mix for those series. |

The Indian cricket team are really getting bad with the poor sportsmanship. The whole mankad thing was just ridiculous and typical of their behaviour.
maybe it is time they were simply not invited for a while till they get some manners. |

I did not see the game but a friend told me something about a Mankad.....The practice was named after an Indian after all.....Vinoo Mankad who ran out Bill Brown at the bowlers end in act of bowling a delivery during a tour of Australia.....Indian's like calling other people cheats and racists yet see no problem with their players own actions and behaviour....Not that there is anything wrong with a Mankad if you feel it is waranted!!! |

The tradition with the Mankad is that you warn the batsman that he or she is leaving the crease before the bowler is in their delivery stride. After this the bowler may Mankad without problem if the batsman continues the behaviour. Legend has it that Mr Douglas Jardine was guilty of the Mankad as a university student around the same time. The issue was the Indian teams lack of spirit when the chips are down. They have done this before and they will continue if allowed to get away with it. They hand out the sledging but can not take it. They don't want DRS but then complain about the umpires. |

I agree Nairbe.....Check out Sunil Gavaskar on you tube.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ew7tY8Q3Trw India see no problem when bad umpiring decisions go their way.....This LBW dismissal of Adam Gilchrist was woeful.....The ball pitches way outside leg stump yet both commentators claim it pitched on middle and leg are they blind or stupid.....Gilchrist also gets an inside edge.....India did not complain!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzXaUZ2H7sI&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RfW9mGjMTo&feature=related |

India continued their bad sportsmanship again last night. We all know that D. Huss should have got the march but the loop hole was their and the umpires filled it. Yep they were unhappy and thats ok but to continue on about it after is about where they are at. |

I think the law states if a player deviates from his line to deliberately block a throw he will be given out....D.Hussey ran in a straight line and protected himself from being struck by the ball.....He did not deviate and kept in a straight line.....Players should only be given out in the most blatant cases where it is obvious they tried to obstruct the throw and deviated to do so.....Winning a match by demanding players are given out when they get hit by the ball is not in the spirit of the game.....I think the law should be used only in the most blatant cases of cheating and players should accept the umpires decision.....India are sore losers and bad sports who are front runners to say the least.....If Australia acted in the same way I would be disgusted which is why I think Ponting was a bad sport at times when he lowered himself to the same level as the opposition!!! |

What a great victory by India.....Kholi was awesome and is looming as India's one bright light from a disappointing tour.....Lets hope he does not let his success go to his head as he will now be a target to opposition sides!!!

The rule here is the use of the hand to defend the wickets. The umpires chose to deem that he was defending his body and that it would have hit him. Either way they are bad sports and need to grow up. Yes Ponting could get a bit rough, but mostly Australia were guilty of sledging that only hurt so much because mostly they were right. |

Sri Lanka may prove to be a hard task for the up and down Australian's as their form has improved as the competition has progressed.....How sad that India where sent home the biggest losers of the summer!!!

No Ricky won't be at the next cup so the time was now. We won in the end with a great effort from McKay. Good on him, the carry on over Lee's effort is sickening, about time he was moved on as well. He cost us game two, almost gave them game one. He is erratic and costly. |
