Sydney Sixers win the inaugural Big Bash League. How good has this been. Packed houses at just about every match. |

But it IS rubbish.
Just watching the india australia match now. It's just a slog. No batting skills in evidence. Just a slog. Hope it doesnt become the be all and end all for young Australian kids watching. |

No batting skills in evidence. Yeh right...is switch hitting for 6 not skilful enough for you?? Like any game, it has it's own set of attributes. If you think grinding out runs over 5 days at 2 an over is the height of batting ability, thats your choice. But the popularity of 20/20 since its inception suggest more people think scoring at 10 an over for a few hours is a more entertaining form. It takes time for people to settle in and find the perfect balance of skills and strategy in any new sport or format, but once they do, it becomes a whole new game. Look at how all sports evolve - UFC is a prime example. |

Which is what we had/have with the fifty over game. 20/20 is a money making exercise nothing more, not saying the 1 dayers weren't/aren't just that they are more faithful to the games origins. UFC is not a sport, its 2 boof heads punching on. |

One dayers are fine if you've got a whole day, but not everyone does. A 3 hours 20/20 is a nice, short entertaining game. It wouldn't make money if people didn't want it. And UFC is 2 boofheads punching on as much as soccer is a bunch of boofheads kicking a ball around, or hockey is a bunch of shielas hitting a ball with a stick. Of course each set of rules develops and involves their own unique blend of skills and strategies though. There is no such thing an unskilled sport. Isn't there room for 20/20 as well? Youve just a 4 test series, with another one to come soon after the 1 day series. year round cricket, surely theres something for everyone? |

Sure, just as long as one form doesn't replace another, which with ICB being as influential as it is nowdays is a real possibility.
Then again they've sent a team that cant play either form of the game very well. ;D I still say UFC is just a televised bar fight. The other sports you mention have some form of rules, finess and skill, boxing is really a ballet when practiced by 2 good fighters an art even, all UFC barrs is dirty fighting, ball shots and biting, don't know why isn't it supposed to be Ultimate? |

It's got to get nanny-state approval, so if the fighters keep winding up dead, those bloody meddling do-gooders will no doubt stick their nose in. Also, you need to have longevity for fighters - hard to build a cult following behind one fighter or other if they get their windpipe crushed, eyes gouged out or back broken, never to fight again. Anyways, I only brought up UFC becasue of how clearly it has evolved. I still remember UFC #1 and it's nothing like it is today. |
