Title: Stuffup upon a stuffup by our gubmint
Post by olde.sault on Jan 17th, 2012 at 11:40pm

Back to the Home Insulation comedy.

Seems that those who are supposed to inspect the lay throughout, just thrust their heads through the manhole, peer and then return to ground level.

One home owner protested: "You can't just pass this job with a glance-- Since  insulation, I hear a whirring sound in the bathroom every time I switch on the light. . ."

"Well Mister, you'll have to call out an
electrician to check that out" he was told.

Another reckoned that  inspectors turned up on a second occasion - they'd forgotten that this address had been checked

. . .while the dollar-waste continues.

The suspicion is that the initial installers are back on the payroll, now posing as inspectors.

I guess we deserve the government we have and God's blessings on our feral independents!

If you are intending to engage someone to insulate your house you should check that they are registered and that they have an appropriate licence to perform the work.

You can check the Licensing Public Register on OCBA's website at www.ocba.sa.gov.au/licensing to confirm that a particular contractor is licensed.

For queries in relation to the Commonwealth Home Insulation Program please call the safety hotline on 13 17 92.

For information on how to obtain a licence visit : www.ocba.sa.gov.au/licensing/buildingworkers/index.html.

The most reliable of links, ordinary citizens phoning radio talkback about what they are experiencing.

I hadn't mentioned those still going to bed in fear, those still waiting for an inspection of their ceiling's "free" batt-lay.

You, screwballs,  think that it is all a conspiracy to blacken Labor's name after all the houses that went up in smoke and four lost their lives?

After all that mess-up your rat-administrators can't keep a file on whose house had been inspected and whose hadn't, something that even a semi-literate housewife could  get right.

I had two strapping lads come and inspect my roof..when the insulation was done ... yes I did ask for the credentials...they had to lift roof tiles and climb into the extention part of the roof...

but when the inspectors came they were there all of 5 minutes and they certainly didnt lift any roof tiles.

I honestly couldnt say I was impressed.

Labor's fiasco has just about ruined the insulation industry.

It hadn't been a matter of householders "engaging" a licensed insulation firm - these scam artists walked off the street and knocked on doors. Batts were already loaded in vehicles - one towed them up in a boat!

A  householder refused entry to one pair because his ceiling had been insulated. These offered to pull out the old and place in the new--

The scheme was not supervisied. The insulators came, did their job, or even just left the batts in the ceiliong and then claimed on the government.

That is where I get my information, not from Alan Jones nor Tony Abbott, just frustrated, ordinary people taking the time to dial up a radio station.

With all the lies we are fed by politicians, I know whom I can trust!

Mr Robb's Error
Mr Robb's representation of the growth is debt is easily explained, which makes his alarmist "analysis" all the more contemptible. The reporting of it, unquestioned, it just as extraordinary.

I'll explain it this way.

Think of two countries of similar size in terms of GDP.

In time Period 1, Country One has net debt of $2 billion. Country Two has net debt of $50 billion.

In time Period 2, Country One's net debt rises to $20 billion. Country Two's net debt rises to $150 billion.

The way someone like Mr Robb would mischievously present these numbers is that Country One's net debt has risen by a whopping 900%; Country Two's net debt has only risen by only 200%.

Hence, County One has had a massive blow out in debt compared to Country Two.

Hhhmmm.

You decide which country has the debt problem. Mr Robb can't.

Mr Robb's Embarrassing Lack of Understanding

OMG! The Coalition Parties seem to be keen to keep on highlighting their frightening ignorance on economics and economic management. Even basic maths seems to be an issue sometimes.

It perhaps wouldn’t matter so much if it were an odd backbencher shooting from the hip, but this time it is the Shadow Finance Minister, Andrew Robb, mouthing an analysis of Australia’s debt and fiscal position that would be humiliating to any high school economics student, let alone someone wanting to run the budget of Australia’s $1.5 trillion economy.

In The Australian today, Mr Robb is quoted:
•      “growth in the nation's level of indebtedness since Labor came to power has been outstripped only by global financial crisis casualties Iceland and Ireland; it [the Opposition] warned of a European-style budget crisis here.”

Mr Robb also said:
•      "Under Labor, commonwealth debt in gross terms has grown by around 250 per cent, putting us third only behind those powerhouses Iceland and Ireland.”

What? Is this a mistruth or a very basic misunderstanding?

The facts show that Australia’s net debt is projected to move from a net asset position of 3.8% of GDP in 2007-08 to a net debt position peaking at 8.9% of GDP by 2011-12 - a widening of around 13% of GDP.

According to the IMF data base, Iceland’s net debt is projected to rise by 58% of GDP, from 11% in 2007 to 69% in 2012. Ireland’s net debt is projected to rise by 92% of GDP from 12% in 2007 to 104% in 2012.

Then there’s this suggestion:
•      Mr Robb said a commodities slump could push Australia into European budget crisis territory. "Debt just keeps growing under this government and if we experience any downturn in commodity prices the $50 billion budget deficits that have become the norm under Labor will stretch out as far as the eye can see," he said.

Let’s have a look at some of those “European crisis levels” of net government debt:

Between 2007 and 2012, net government debt is projected to rise by 53% of GDP in Greece (from 105% to 158%); Portugal 32% of GDP (from 58% to 90%) and Spain 30% of GDP (from 26% to 56%).

As an aside, according to the same IMF database, net debt in the US is projected to rise by 35% of GDP between 2007 and 2012 (from 42% to 77%); in the UK, the rise is 41% of GDP (from 38% to 79%), while in Italy, is a relatively modest 13% of GDP albeit from a high starting point (from 87% to 100%).

Talk back radio is not a reliable source for information.....If you cannot provide a reliable link to your claims then you have nothing to offer this debate accept opinions that are not facts.....Most people have nothing to worry about with their insulation unless it is foil which is not approved for home insulation or you have down lights that could cause fire if the insulation is placed over them.....Do you really think an approved inspector would just write off homes as safe without checking to determine if people where at risk.....They would go to jail if they failed to inspect properties correctly and signed off on dodgy work.....Do not listen to the crap you are being fed on talk back radio because it is not true....Do you really think approved inspectors would not determine the risk to home owners and risk going to jail???

Your ARE an idiot!

It takes a long wait in a queue to get through to say one's piece on a popular radio program.

Maybe Labor stooges have the time (most of them are on the dole) but conservative voters work for a living and don't have the time to wait on "hold".

In any case, I can pick between a smoothie acting out propaganda and a genuine caller with their "ums" and "you know".

It'll soon come out into the open no matter how leftist venues hide the truth.

There is nothing more dense than a socialist who'll  dodge truth at any price and respect lies.

That is why Russia's communism came to an end after people suffered it for 70 years.

Communists are bitter, envious people who base their beliefs on the fairy tale that "we are all even" we aren't even born "even" - certainly not another child added to a family of half a dozen from "fathers unknown".

Your hero, Whitlam, started this sh*t.

Pathetic!

Well, that last line was plainly stereotypical, and designed to be offensive.

Pity that the Australian people disagreed with your admiration for that large fool, Whitlam.

Some of your fellow-believers, still say that John Kerr "sacked" Whitlam.

Supply was blocked by the senate and Kerr simply carried out his duty (didn't have many duties, now, had he?)

this was, to order the dissolution of an unworkable parliament and appoint Fraser as caretaker PM until the election was held.

Whitlam was swept out.

Just quietly, my late brother, a solicitor often hired Whitlam when he was a barrister. Whitlam lost  my brother every case - a complete loser!

Whitlam's only 'mistake' was that he was too progressive for the
stuck-in-the-1950s Menzies-influenced conservatives, and they
did a big dummy-spit over it.

THEN stagflated the country for the next eight years (and THEN
did it again from 1996-2007).

It makes what Gillard did to Rudd look like the playground
squabble that it was.

And it certainly showed the Coalition as not having the
country's best interests at heart, but their own.

Whitlam's only 'mistake' was that he was too progressive for the
stuck-in-the-1950s Menzies-influenced conservatives, and they
did a big dummy-spit over it.

Some more mistakes.

Murphy, Trimbole, Grassby, Cairns, Khemlani, Junie Morosi, Rex Connor.

When the Senate refused supply, Whitlam (like JuLiar) clung to his primeministership and approached  this wealthy Arab for a loan to keep hin in government.

That made John Kerr call a dissolution of both houses and the people spoke loudly.

That was when, unlike today, democracy was observed.

Maybe Labor stooges have the time (most of them are on the dole) but conservative voters work for a living and don't have the time to wait on "hold".

In any case, I can pick between a smoothie acting out propaganda and a genuine caller with their "ums" and "you know".

Your hero, Whitlam, started this sh*t.

Pathetic!

It was during the Whitlam era that I began to take an interest in politics so, I do know what was going on and often from the horse's mouth - the people who suffered during the time Whitlam put the country on the skids.

Nothing has been the same since, especially the "liberated" women who became coarser than their menfolk- swear, grog, flash their boobs and bear children for the bonus.

Can anyone tell me where in the constitution that it says that the Governer General takes advice from the Opposition Leader

Whitlam wanted to call a half Senate election and Fraser only wanted a Double Dissolution and what did we get.

So Kerr and Fraser did not abide by the constitution.

-------
I could be wrong but I'm sure there is nothing in our constitution allowing a PM to organise loans if senate had refused supply.

This action is our country's safety valve in case a PM goes off his rocker which Whitlam had--

As a result of leftard stupidity, John Kerr had to leave the country. Once a Labor stalwart, he just went by the rules (although he might have had the brains to realise what was happening to Australia under his  friend).

Kerr deserved sainthood!

Except he DIDN'T...only in the twisted minds of Fraser/Howard supporters.

Virtually NONE of the 'bad' things Whitlam was supposed to have done have
any basis in fact, but the MANY genuine, needed reforms he made have either
been ignored, or Fraser/Howard tried to take credit for.

Fraser/Howard stuff-ups were sheeted home to Whitlam, while Fraser/Howard
cheerfully took credit for Whitlam's successes.

Want to talk about bad prime Ministers? There's two of the worst.

Malcolm Fraser, and John Howard.
