Post by cods on Dec 27th, 2011 at 7:47am
this is just appalling..I cannot think of anything to say that could ever make a difference..

I just feel I want him to know that I am thinking of him right now.and this terrible tragedy.

in God we trust... we have too.

I agree!

It puts a new perspective on some things that we may have thought were large issues, but which pale into insignificance by comparison!

It must be shattering, for the family, friends & all concerned, my thoughts are with them!

It is a terrible tragedy, made worse by the day that it happened.

My mobile phone re-charger caught on fire, luckily I was home and it was through the day. I never leave it on overnight now. Someone also said the standby light on the tv etc can catch a little bit of dust and catch on fire. I always get up and turn the switch off.

You would think a chef would be big on smoke alarms tho'.

If it was an explosion, they probably wouldn't have helped. The fire that took all those children down at Kingston earlier in the year was caused by LPG bottles too, wasn't it?  There should be some kind of law in place that they're stored away from the house to prevent this kind of awful tragedy.

Wow! Annie there is certainly a lot of information on the web about exploding LPG cylinders. Some say it's impossible for them to explode under normal conditions, and others say they explode with extreme heat. If I had them under my house I would move them just in case.

It basically is impossible for an undamaged LPG tank to explode..

As for moving them from under your house.....it's most likely that they were running the gas cooker and/or water heater, so the position is decided by the closest point to the appliances...so it's not that easy to relocated them...

You will find that any explosion(s) that occurred happened after the fire was already well established.

The news reports say the neighbours were alerted by an explosion - not that it was an explosion that started the fire.

sorry fred it wasnt meant as a debate more a warning?..

it occured to me that some do leave the lights on for hours.. and I have heard of them catching on fire in the past it was just meant as a warning..

sorry if I have offended anyone that wasnt my intention of starting a debate..

my son in law is in forensics. and we talk about his job often..so I know it will all be investigated.

it doesnt stop me feeling terribly sad though.

Pitty the Ambulance had to be sourced from another area, because the local Ambulances were attending to a bunch of drunken louts.

Christmas and Boxing days are the busiest days of the year for both cops and ambos.

What has that got to do with anything, it still wouldn't bring dead people back to life.

A 27 minute wait for emergency services can make a HUGE difference between life and death Pansi....

How do you know that waiting the extra minutes for the ambulance would have changed his condition in any way?

I would say that the major percentage of ambulance and police work is in some way dealing with drunks and alcohol inflicted people.

I just don't get the argument in this case that things would have been different if the ambulance had have got to the scene earlier.

The ambo's did what they do and the drunks did what they do. It's Australia and drinking is our culture and encouraged at every opportunity.

Police and ambulances have been understaffed for years. Where has all the money gone? The Commonwealth Games?

It may not have changed HIS condition in anyway...but the point to the previous post is, it may well have changed the conditions of the other people....IF, the ambos had turned up in 10 minutes, they may have been able to save some of the others.....

If somebody is burnt you water them anyway possible. Lying in a bath with icecubes is ideal. Failing that a hose constantly running over the affected area.. Every second a burn is left unattended it will eat deeper.

Actually those two ideas are possible the worst concepts...Dropping the temperature of a burn victim that fast is a guaranteed recipe for major shock....

No dressings, no creams or potions, Cool running water for a minimum of 30 minutes. Giz is right, a bath of iced water is not a good idea.

It doesn't get much worse than what this blokes life has just been reduced to.  A friend of ours lost their home in a fire and that nearly destroyed them . This guy has lost his whole family aswell.  Lost the lot in one hit.  Unbelievably sad.
