Darwin (evolution)  under attack, and now the attack is weakening (creationism).

Tropical Cyclone Grant developed into a category one system this morning, after hovering as a tropical low over the Arafura Sea since Wednesday.

The cyclone is about 260 kilometres north-east of Darwin and is expected to hit the Coburg Peninsula today.

Senior meteorologist Grant Elliot says the cyclone will then move into Van Diemen Gulf, before developing into a category two cyclone and crossing the coast east of Darwin tomorrow.

"[It will] slide in over the Top End and bring some wet and windy conditions, and certainly some heavy rain as well," he said.

Weather Services assistant director Alasdair Hainsworth says the system will spend the day in the Arafura Sea before developing into a category two cyclone.

"We are still expecting to continue to strengthen very slowly over the next 24 to 36 hours," he said.

The warning centre says Darwin may experience gales tomorrow as the edge of the cyclone passes east of the city.

That's not entirely true...there have been two previous major earthquakes in and around Christchurch....one in 1869(magnitude 5) and another in 1888( magnitude 7.0 - 7.3)

Melbourne struck by huge hailstones and, tornado hits near Fiskville, west of Melbourne

HAILSTONES the size of cricket balls, flash-flooding, planes diverted and flights postponed, power lost from homes, major transport delays and a tornado to top things off - that was Christmas Day in Melbourne.
