Title: Same Sex Civil Unions FINALLY Passed in QLD
Post by Annie Anthrax on Dec 1st, 2011 at 7:37am

Quote:
The Civil Partnerships Bill was passed in state parliament at 11.10pm (AEST) on Wednesday, with 47 MPs voting yes and 40 no.

The bill, introduced by deputy premier Andrew Fraser, allows same sex couples to register their union with the Queensland Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

"Queensland's parliament has voted to lift the shackles of discrimination," Mr Fraser said.

"It will go down as one of Queensland Labor's most significant achievements.

"Today was a momentous occasion for civil rights."

About 150 people sat in the public gallery through the almost four-hour debate and roared with applause upon the bill's passing.

Outside parliament they gave Mr Fraser a hero's welcome.

"Go forth and celebrate. I've got other work to do," Mr Fraser told them before returning to the house.

Premier Anna Bligh said the bill may not be a priority for all of Queensland but it was for those who live with discrimination every day.

JOYFUL BUSINESS OF LOVE

"This bill is fundamentally about the human rights of Queensland's citizens, but it is much more than that, it is about the joyful business of love."

The 31 Liberal National Party MPs voted en bloc against the bill and five of the six independent or minor party MPs present for the vote opposed it.

Labor MPs were allowed a conscience vote and four voted no, including Capalaba MP Michael Choi, Albert MP Margaret Keech and Bundamba MP Jo-Ann Miller.

Health Minister Geoff Wilson, who had publicly supported same sex civil unions, made a surprise decision to vote against the bill.

He said that his working class and Christian background have been the pillars of his life and he felt uncomfortable that the bill created a new, legally recognised relationship that was an alternative to marriage.

CHRISTIAN INFLUENCE

"I believe in the biblical understanding of marriage," he told parliament.

Ms Keech also declared that she was a Christian and that civil unions mirror marriage in all but name and undermines the institution.

"I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman," she told parliament.

"I am not convinced that any change to marriage is for the common good for our society."

Shadow attorney-general Jarrod Bleijie said Mr Fraser only introduced the bill to shore up the left vote and is rushing it through parliament before the election, due early next year.

He said the bill was only introduced on October 25 and there had not been enough time for community consultation.

"This bill is nothing more than a stunt," Mr Bleijie told parliament.

He said over 54 per cent of the final number of submissions to a legislative committee that examined the bill were received 17 days after the cut-off date.

"We do not believe the people of Queensland have had the appropriate opportunities to raise their concerns," he told parliament.

He also said the bill was not a priority for Queenslanders, who are more concerned about cost of living pressures.

Annerley resident Mathew Burke, who watched the historic vote, said the passing of the bill was another step on the road to equality.

"It is the next milestone, it was a long time coming," he told reporters.

The legislation now aligns Queensland with reforms already made in Tasmania, Victoria, the ACT and NSW

Yes, we have a bit of way to go before we break down all of the moral values of society.

But let's keep chipping away.

Now now, peds have rights too and deserve love and happiness eh.
The incest lobby would be rubbing their hands together also, they have moved up one rung on the society totem pole.
And I'm one step closer to marrying my dog.
You see, we're in love. ;)

So the constant whinging and bleating is to continue ad infinitum, maybe they should learn to accept that sometimes NO is a perfectly valid responce to the demands of whiney little b1tches.

So does this mean that we'll have  a steady flow of gays to Queensland to get married?

Wow! I always thought that Qld was quite a conservative state compared to say NSW with its gay mardi gras.

Cooooool !!!! come up here and get married boys and girls.

The reason behind the legislation is that our tourist industry has crashed and Anna and the Mayor of Noosa thinks this might boost it on again.

Gay marriage packages to Qld.

Whatever, it's a move forward.

John Waters is glad that people feel comfortable coming out of the closet. And yet: “I wish some gay people would go back in. We have enough”...

Countless heterosexuals go through life partner-less (let alone in marriage) yet realise, sort of, that it isn't an interesting subject.

Ohhh nooo, not the dreaded Rubber - Glue Gambit, for which there is no defence.

Seriously if you want to run insults as your reply at least avoid the primary school stuff, 'cause words hurt ya know.  ;D

Not everyone feels the need to placate the whims of whiny little b1tches; like whinging children they have to learn their place and it isn't at the adults table.

Could anyone please explain to me how different are homosexuals to heterosexual people?
I,am aware that there are some aberrations in nature, but they are rather rare.
Are homosexuals born that way or made that way?
My concern is, that we do not use common showers or toilets for males and females, because of separation of the sexes
How would a young girl feel in a common public shower with some middle aged men leering at her young body, yet if the same girl is in the same situation with some lesbians ogling at her, yet she cannot be aware that they are lesbians.
The same would apply if a young boy is in a common shower and some male homosexuals are present, although in that case it may become more obvious if one homosexual becomes sexually aroused.
I had a case where one of my workmates thought that I have homosexual desires, but I let him know immediately that I had no homosexual inclinations.
I deplore the tactics that were used some 50 years ago, where police used to make fun of harassing homosexuals and Dr.Duncan drowned in Adelaide by being thrown into the river, yet I noticed over the years, that homosexuals were offered a finger and they took the whole hand.

The issue I have is that they are never happy with what they are given.

They positively hate the Church and  they hate people who have a more traditional moral compass.
Why do they always feel the need to parade their gay-ness around in front of all to see?

Why not just be happy with who they are, keep to themselves - why feel the need to hold hands, carry on in public - is it just so they can get a rise out of ordinary people?

My issue is not so much with what they are given but the fact they seem to want everything and throw everything offered to thyem back in our faces.

Could not agree more; but the heterosexual people are also a little hypocritical, by going to watch their exhibitionist parades, given the gay community actually support.

Actually some churches do, and I don't think there are any restrictions on communion. Where did you get your information from? (In Australia, that includes Quakers and Lutherans at least. There may be others)

I suspect the overwheleming majority of hommers would be happy with this.
But their rabid enablers (dumb white liberals) are a different story.  They have a totally different motivation - hommers want to be accepted while the DWL's are motivated by a burning hatred for tradition and western culture.

I can't understand why these heteros want to sit on trains kissing, tottering around on their high heels, drunk, and crying into their mobile phones that nobody loves them, parading their precious relationships around in churches, public parks and Kings Cross on a Friday night.

Well, some individuals know that no one is born perfect and that not every impulse should be acted out.

AIDS is a considerable warning

Sex isn't everything and it appears to me that homosexuals are more hung up on the exercise.

The point is not equal rights before the law, but about the normalisation of perversion. Equal rights are not enough if they are still regarded as perverts - hence the 'marriage equality' drive. They want homosexuality to be regarded as normal, equal to heterosexuality and not as a perversion.

This is why they hate the traditions that stand in their way. And this is why the right-on, hip and with-it kids are goind along with the gay marriage wheeze, because to them, tradition is also anathema.

I agree.

The little of seen screened on TV news once featured a small child on the shoulders of a man (his Dad, perhaps) watching gay behinds flashing past.

That would have grown a very confused kid.

Wow! I always thought that Qld was quite a conservative state compared to say NSW with its gay mardi gras.

The laws have just been brought into line with the rest of the eastern seaboard.  Not sure if the same laws exist in SA, WA or NT.  Unlikely to change anything up here.

You may have to refresh your memory and review the meaning of the word irony, or are you american. I simple asked if now they were going to stop whinging like whiney little b1tches; everything after that is replying to inane commentary

I must just have less tolerance for whingers than you do, it being set permenantly at zero.

Irony and Hypocrisy are often used interchangeably; the latter of course more appropriate in this instance.

That's ridiculous. Why is it so difficult for you to understand that consenting adults shouldn't be discriminated against because they are attracted to the same sex?

No, never saw the mentioned film.

This happened in a large art studio.

I was one of a few heterosexuals invited to a social in an an art studio.

"Great!" thought I,

I'd see some paintings, enjoy the company of artists.

We were given refreshment in an alcove off a dance floor and when the curtain was drawn, we saw some 40 gay couples  dancing lovingly.

These were the years when gays were persecuted (with which I  always disagreed).

It was an unforgettable experience.

Same sex unions need to be legally equivalent to heterosexual marriage contracts, in regard to the rights and responsibilities of the partners involved, but personally I believe that this is where the changes to our traditional system stops.
Do NOT call it Gay Marriage, as marriage is a traditional word which did describe the union of a male and female in a lifelong commitment, and that meaning does not need to be changed to placate the sensibilities of some gay people.
Do NOT demand that any church must perform Gay unions, or commitment ceremonies, under the false claim that to refuse to do so is discriminatory.
Life is full of choices, and people in a church make choices based upon sets of beliefs, and the state should not try and force them to comply with actions that would go against their beliefs.

So, have equal rights under the law, call it a homosexual life partnership, or Gay Union, whatever they want, that is appropriate, and does not demand the re-defining of traditional descriptions of words like Marriage, or married, "Partners", or "Life Partners" is perfectly adequate, to communicate their desire to announce their relationship to the world.

Then is just propagandist bullshit to the highest degree.

Being gay doesnt mean you automatically partake in acts such as fisting or eating waste.

Im disgusted that this kind of bullshit sees the light of day.

There is plenty of people that partake in such acts that are not limited to homosexuals.

Im sickened this is your defence of it bobby.  I would bet you come into contact with gay people all the time and you wouldnt even have a clue they were gay.

Just for you Bobby.

In 1992, a study conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that only 26% of men 18 to 59 and 20% of women 18 to 59 had engaged in heterosexual anal sex; a similar 2005 survey (also conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) found a rising incidence of anal sex relations in the American heterosexual population. The survey showed that 40% of men and 35% of women between 25 and 44 had engaged in heterosexual anal sex.[44] In terms of overall numbers of survey respondents, seven times as many women as gay men said that they engaged in anal intercourse, with this figure reflecting the larger heterosexual population size.[45] According to a study from the National Survey of Sexual Health and Behavior (NSSHB) that was authored by Dr. Debby Herbenick and other researchers, although anal intercourse is reported by fewer women than other partnered sex behaviors, partnered women in the age groups between 18-49 are significantly more likely to report having anal sex in the past 90 days.[46] As of 2011, this survey provides the most up to date data about anal sex at the population level.

In a 2007 report entitled Prevalence and Correlates of Heterosexual Anal and Oral Sex in Adolescents and Adults in the United States, published in the Journal of Infectious Disease, a national survey of Family Growth found that 34% men and 30% women reported ever participating in heterosexual anal sex. The percentage of participants reporting heterosexual anal sex was significantly higher among 20- to 24-year-olds and peaked among 30- to 34-year-olds.[47][48] Another survey in, 2008, focused on a much younger demographic of teenagers and young adults, aged 15–21. It found that 16% of 1350 surveyed had had this type of sex in the previous 3 months, with condoms being used 29% of the time.[49] However, given the subject matter, the survey hypothesized the prevalence was probably underestimated.

In 2009, Kimberly R. McBride published a clinical report in The Journal of Sex Research which stated that changing norms may affect the frequency of heterosexual anal sex behaviors and suggests that there is a role for the exotic in the sexual repertoires of some heterosexuals" "[F]or a certain number of heterosexuals, anal intercourse is pleasurable, exciting, and perhaps considered more intimate than vaginal sex...". McBride and her colleagues investigated the prevalence of non-intercourse anal sex behaviors among a sample of men (n=1,299) and women (n=1,919) compared to anal intercourse experience and found that 51% of men and 43% of women had participated in at least one act of oral–anal sex, manual–anal sex, or anal sex toy use.[47][50] McBride and Janssen found that the majority of men (n=631) and women (n=856) who reported heterosexual anal intercourse in the past 12 months were in exclusive, monogamous relationships: 69% and 73%, respectively.[47][50]

Figures for prevalence can vary amongst different demographics, regions, and nationalities. A 2001 French survey of five hundred female respondents concluded that a total of 29% had engaged in this practice, with one third of these confirming to have enjoyed the experience.[51] In contrast, in a 1999 South Korean survey of 586 women, 3.5% of respondents reported having had this type of sex.[52]

Figures for the prevalence of sexual behavior can also fluctuate over time. Edward O. Laumann's 1992 survey, reported in The Social Organization of Sexuality: Sexual Practices in the United States, found that about 20% of heterosexuals had engaged in male-to-female anal sex. Sex researcher Alfred Kinsey, working in the 1940s, had found that number to be closer to 40% at the time. More recently, a researcher from the University of British Columbia in 2005 put the number of heterosexuals who have engaged in this practice at between 30% and 50%.[53] According to Columbia University's health website Go Ask Alice!: "Studies indicate that about 25 percent of heterosexual couples have had anal sex at least once, and 10 percent regularly have anal penetration."[27]

Quite clearly these ignoramuses have no knowledge of the
11th Commandment verge.

I think if people spend too much time obsessing over gays and what they do in the bedroom, it says more about you than them.

Who cares what they do, you don't have to get in the mix of it.

Don't be so fast to hire that suit just yet, young adam and steve.

Looks like the LNP wants to drop a turd in the wedding punchbowl of homo happiness. ;D

Queensland's Liberal National Party may repeal laws that allow same-sex civil unions in the state if it wins government next year.

The Civil Partnerships Bill passed parliament on Wednesday night, 47 votes to 40, with all 31 LNP MPs voting as a block against it.

The opposition has called the bill a vote-grabbing political stunt and says it was rushed through in the last sitting week of the year, and possibly the last before the state election.

Advertisement: Story continues below

"We'll look at the repeal of it, but it may not be possible," Deputy Opposition Leader Tim Nicholls told the ABC today.

"It may be that people have altered their circumstances, or are in train to change their circumstances, as a result of that legislation."

He said repealing laws was not an easy process and while the LNP would look at it, the party's major focus would be on building the economy and driving down the cost of living.

Employment, Skills and Mining Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said Labor was prepared for the laws to become an election issue.

Opponents of them have vowed to campaign in seats where Labor is vulnerable, but Mr Hinchliffe said the party was prepared for that.

"When you take a principled stand on something you have to understand and wear what comes with that," he told the ABC.

"There are certainly people out there in the community who've taken the view that they're going to campaign on this issue against members who've supported it.

"But equally, I presume there'll be some people in the community who'll want to campaign to support those who supported it."

They would need to wear a good continence pad if anal leakage was occurring regularly.
I could think of nothing more embarrassing than seeing a mincer prancing through Westfields shopping centre with a large stain on the back of his duds.

It's a shame that with so many other serious problems in the world this pissant issue has taken centre stage that is nothing but a crying minority wanting to justify their lifestyle by getting the majority to say yes to it

It is typical of the left wing priority scale.

The failure to recognize that doing something to appease minorities is more damaging than keeping the status quo.

Change for changes sake to grease the squeaky wheel while sticking a spanner in it  ::)

Yes I'd agree with that.
As far as I know Labor has already removed the legal discrination so same sex couples have the same rights as defacto.
Who Cares, change the bloody act or if you really believe that sancity bullcrap lobby to have divorce outlawed.
"Till death do us part" has been in the pledge from the begining.
Really move on, the more this comes up the more I'm inclined to think that the Gays just want to rub the churches nose in it, which even to a non religious person looks like grave dancing.
Plenty of hetro's opt for the civil ceremony now with the celibrate and park or wherever.
There's more important things that should come before 2 blokes prancing down a church aisle.

Well it is good to see you worked out why for yourself lefty, because you reposted it minus the bit which got the first version removed. Thank you for that, it is called self moderation, where you review your posts and take out things which are perhaps a little over the top, or not in the best taste.
I have noticed that you can actually make some pretty decent posts when you do that.

Perhaps you can put some guidelines in as to what is acceptable to your taste...which is obviously subjective depending on what mood you are in, the time of the month and the moon phase.

I note that you are the main mod offender for this type of thing. Power gone to your head?

Well you did not need any guidelines from me to self mod your previous post, so just think, "how would a decent person who was not trying to be deliberately offensive towards another member phrase this"
and you will manage just fine.

There's still a fair way to go.

Well, two gays can't produce little gays so there is still a problem facing a gay union.

A large opening for the surrogate industry.

Yes - brown marks are a giveaway!

Absolutely, that is the anal leaking Pastor Sempa was vividly describing.
They would need to wear a good continence pad if anal leakage was occurring regularly.
I could think of nothing more embarrassing than seeing a mincer prancing through Westfields shopping centre with a large stain on the back of his duds.
I am yet to see this in North Queensland.
Possibly because real men don't leak. :)

I've spoken to a woman who claimed that she had worked at a brothel as "secretary".

She enlightened me on what goes on in such establishments and, as an eager writer, I listened. . .

Seems that prostitutes do indulge some customers with anal sex which can become detrimental. Some prostitutes lose control of their anal functions (like infants).

Surely this can also harm small-built males?

Only a handful of sensible comments have appeared in this thread, and bobbi is pushing his luck  by posting
juvenile responses to a question serious enough to warrant legislation being considered to

Well Mozzaok,
would you prefer to listen to Stephen Smith on Lateline talking about gay marriage?
( full transcript as well. )
Warning - it's very boring.

see link:
http://www.abc.net.au/lateline/content/2011/s3381740.htm

Notice that the actual sexual practices of gays are never mentioned.
Why is this when everyone thinks of those practices when the topic is mentioned?

I'll tell you why - I spoke to a journalist & such talk is not allowed in the media
because it could cause revulsion towards the gay community.
Journalists have to undergo a long Govt. course about what they can say & what they can't say.
Here on forums we get to say what people are really thinking.
Just goes to show why people are deserting the normal media for online news & forums.
It also shows how much propaganda & controls are forced upon us.
What ever happened to free speech?

I've no objection while it named "civil union" however, not if such a lifestyle is celebrated as  "marriage".

While I have socialised with gays, I would not hack such a ceremony.

Two blokes or two women standing side by side would look pathetic.

Would both lesbians be in white and with veils?

LOL

It undermines

The only problem with that 'objection' is that in modern language, any officiated ceremony that a man and woman go through is referred to as being married......even civil unions. So there's no chance that a same sex ceremony, even if it's a civil union, won't be referred to the same way......even couples that are just common law based are considered married...

A very weird addendum. I get legislative alerts sent to me by email at work.

Provisions of the Civil Partnerships Act 2011 No. 46 (QLD) have been proclaimed by SL 2012 No. 15.
This affects the following legislation:

•      Electrical Safety Act 2002 No. 42  :o

It's Electrifying!  ;D

Two chickens can't make a rooster.
This continued push to make deviant minority groups 'equal' does nothing for society.

Yes, paedophiliacs also claim that this is their way of loving. . .

Now now, peds have rights too and deserve love and happiness eh.
The incest lobby would be rubbing their hands together also, they have moved up one rung on the society totem pole.
And I'm one step closer to marrying my dog.
You see, we're in love. ;)

Actually incest and paedophilia are very different Chick...

Unmarried defactos are still considered to be a common law marriage, after a certain time has elapsed..

Extremely so Gizmo.
However, both are minority groups of people who would wish their human rights to be recognised.
Personally, I'd hang the maggots.
Unfortunately my viewpoint doesn't suit the 21st century standard of morals.
