Dear Julia, you have it right on your carbon tax
Jessica Wright
July 31, 2011.

BRITAIN'S Conservative Prime Minister, David Cameron, has personally congratulated Julia Gillard on her carbon tax policy in a letter penned from the desk of 10 Downing Street.

In a clear embarrassment to the Opposition Leader, Tony Abbott, and his Coalition - who have vehemently opposed any price on carbon - Mr Cameron described the federal Labor government's move on climate change as "bold" and "ambitious".

Mr Cameron said he was convinced climate change was one of the "most pressing threats to [a nation's] prosperity and security".

"I have always been clear that in order to tackle it [climate change] effectively, all major economies will need to take robust action to curb their emissions and put their economies on a more sustainable, low-carbon footing," he said.

The Tory Prime Minister - who, like Ms Gillard, leads a minority government cobbled-together in a coalition of unlikely and ideologically contrasted political allies - reiterated his stance that the world's largest economies had a responsibility to address climate change.

"Your announcement sends a strong and clear signal that Australia is determined to make its contribution to addressing this challenge," he said. "It will add momentum to those, in both the developed and developing world, who are serious about dealing with this urgent threat."

Mr Cameron's letter, dated July 22, is the second high-profile endorsement for Labor's carbon tax plans in less than a week, after former British Labour prime minister Tony Blair, in Australia for a series of corporate speaking events, said reducing carbon-fuel dependence was an "intelligent" move being adopted around the world, during a joint press conference with Ms Gillard.

News of the communique is unlikely to be received well by Mr Abbott, who attended the Conservative Party's annual conference in London in 2010 shortly after he became Opposition Leader and was seen to be aligning policy values with his British Conservative counterpart.

The British government has undertaken a target of a 50 per cent reduction in carbon emissions by 2025 - vastly more than both the Australian government and opposition, which have each committed to a 5 per reduction by 2020.

Mr Abbott - who claimed last week that he had never supported a carbon tax or emissions-trading scheme - was forced recently to back comments made by his shadow cabinet colleague, former opposition leader Malcolm Turnbull, who praised Mr Cameron as a visionary on climate change.

Cameron hits out at BNP's "racist thugs"
Wednesday, October 01, 2008

DAVID Cameron has launched a stunning attack on the British National Party in Stoke-on-Trent.

Speaking from his party’s conference in Birmingham the Conservative leader branded the BNP “racist thugs” and said the Tories intended to win votes from the far-right party.

He said Conservatives needed to work hard in Stoke-on-Trent to reach out to voters who had turned away from the three main British political parties.

He said: “I see the BNP as a threat to our country. They are an appalling bunch of racist thugs.
“It is incumbent on all parties – Conservative, Labour and Liberals – to make sure that we campaign so hard and represent people so well, that we work our streets, housing estates and council terraces so well, that we don’t leave any room for people to feel disaffected and turn to the BNP.

David Cameron urges Tories to back gay marriage
Jessica Geen
5 October 2011

Prime minister David Cameron has urged reluctant Tory MPs and members to support gay marriage.

Giving his keynote speech at the party conference in Manchester, Mr Cameron urged the party to back the move because of its Conservatism, not in spite of it.

Last month, ministers announced that a consultation would be held on how to introduce same-sex marriage before 2015.

The prime minister, who backed committment between same-sex couples in his 2005 speech, told supporters today: “I stood before a Conservative conference once and I said it shouldn’t matter whether commitment was between a man and a woman, a man and another man or a woman and a woman.

“You applauded me for that. Five years on, we’re consulting on legalising gay marriage.

“And to anyone who has reservations, I say this: Yes, it’s about equality, but it’s also about something else: commitment.

Conservatives believe in the ties that bind us; that society is stronger when we make vows to each other and support each other.

“So I don’t support gay marriage in spite of being a Conservative. I support gay marriage because I am a Conservative.”

The camera then cut to Samantha Cameron applauding her husband’s remarks as members cheered and clapped.

In the 50-minute speech, Mr Cameron focused on overseas aid, free schools, housing, community spirit and the economy.

Me too. England has a totally different political culture these days. It's a pity we're importing the extremist, Tea Party brine from the US.

David Cameron has brought the Conservative Party to the centre of British politics. I honestly don't know how he's done it. This is the style of party Turnbull wants for the Libs, but it's politically impossible here, it would seem.

True. Nannies, public school sodomy, blood sports, inherited titles and noblesse oblige.

... and the National Front's neo-nazi's ...

I wonder what he makes of David Cameron NOW ?

I'm not!

The policies of Cameron & the British Conservatives, are leading to a self re-enforcing downward spiral, as they are sucking up the Publics disposable income.

These policies are similar to those that can be expected from the Australian & US Conservatives (the Liberals & the Republicans) and whilst those policies mat have been appropriate in the past, they are absolutely wrong now, given that the current macro Economic factors are firmly set to negative and to re-enforce that downward spiral will create enormous problems, at absolutely the wrong time!

That's not a picture of faggots.  That's a picture of Scotch eggs.

And Enoch Powell was in the Tory Party, not the National Front.
