He does have a point, but I've also noticed that many (most?) who, when asked what they believe in, reply "science" don't understand it either.

'Science' too is a house, which like every house, is built upon a foundation. And today, everyone assumes its foundation is rock. Google; science fraud All men are fools, and easily deceived. Yadda, can stir too. |

Science has never proved a single thing (only disproved them) and like human endeavours is flawed and has it's charlatans.
But it is hard to argue with the results ;) |

Don't equate science with atheism. There is no real connection.

There is a certain real connection, but it's not an exact science. Some people can accept the uncertainty of probability whereas others require black or white. That's why it's a sin to have multiple religions (Gods). There is no picking and choosing allowed, otherwise you are assuming yourself as being God, and this will not do at all ;D |

What about assuming ourselves (the collective consciousness of humanity) to be god? Will that do at all? |

This is a very good thought but by using the word god you immediately give the discussion a god complex. Why is it so difficult for people to separate Atheism from science and religion. It would seem that religion is so deeply ingrained into the human psyche that we just can not seem to comprehend that there is no deity, or supreme being as you might like. The questions that the faithful seek to answer through their religion simply have no answers. Some things we simply just don't know and creating fairytales to give ourselves hope is surely a cruel fools paradise. Science may be used by some to establish some kind of reason and abused by others in this silly battle with the faithful, but even science does not carry the answers. It surely shows more promise of one day being able to at least help us reason it out but religion will always be a good story. |
