Title: Building a National Broadband Network
Post by Deborahmac09 on Sep 6th, 2011 at 11:46am

The National Broadband Network will deliver affordable, world class broadband services to all Australian homes, businesses, schools and hospitals – no matter where they are located.

The NBN will be based on future proof fibre optic technology that will deliver speeds of 100 megabits per second – 50 times faster than most people experience today.

Broadband is the superhighway of the future and without it, our companies and small businesses will not be able to compete with the likes of Japan, Korea or Singapore.

The network will be progressively rolled out over 8 years, supporting 25,000 jobs per year on average over the rollout.  The rollout is already well underway with first services switched on in Tasmania in July 2010, over 800km of fibre optic backbone already laid, and mainland ‘first release’ sites already selected with work underway.

Aussie kids expect something from the alleged once in a century mining boom... HOW WILL THEY READ THE HISTORY ON THAT JOHN HOWARD GUY AS PRIME-MINISTER I ASK YOU!??!

Yes, I am talking about the next 2-3 generations that haven't been born yet!

This NBN THANG holds Labor in a very respectable light for 50 years to come and Rudd will be remembered for bringing Australia forward in an era of pure and utter greed marked by 9-11 and many many other deadly deeds aimed at the heart of faux democracy!!!

9-11 ATTACKED GREEDY DEMOCRACY... RUDD DID HIS BEST TO SHARE THE SPOILS AND THIS WILL BE REMEMBERED FOR A LONG LONG TIME ESPECIALLY FOR ITS CONTRAST TO THE GREEDINESS OF OTHERS!!!

Warren Buffet was quoted as saying some interesting things regarding the mining tax on THE DRUM A WEEK OR SO AGO.... AND THE LIBS KNOW IT AND HANG THEIR COLLECTIVE HEADS IN SHAME AT THEIR SUPPOSED SUPERIOR COLLECTIVE BUSINESS ACUMEN!!

Greed is the beast being attacked that NO Nuclear Weapon can deflect: "...WE WILL REMEMBER THEM?"

YEH, LETS HOPE WE ALL START GROWING UP AND REMEMBERING THAT WAR IS FUTILE!

 ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) GREED IS NOT GOOD!!!!  ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)

NBN Stage Two Roll Out Commences At Kingston Beach

Prime Minister Julia Gillard today launched the Stage Two roll out of the NBN at Kingston Beach in Tasmania.

The NBN will deliver speeds of up to 100 Megabits per second to the 950 houses at Kingston Beach within 12 months.

The Stage Two roll out in Tasmania will employ 146 workers to take the NBN past 11,150 homes and businesses, including in Sorell, Deloraine, Triabunna, as well as Kingston Beach.

The roll out will allow Tasmanians to take advantage of the next generation of economic development in Australia, including health, education, entertainment, business and environmental management.

The Stage Three roll out will extend to a further 90,000 homes and businesses in Burnie, Davenport, Launceston and Hobart, employing around 800 workers at its peak.

Construction will begin at sites in Hobart, Launceston and Somerset over the next 12 months and further work will take place at Kingston over this period.

Almost 4,000 homes in Tasmania are able to get access to the NBN fibre network and almost 800 services are in operation, delivering high-speed broadband to more than 660 premises.

The NBN is available to nearly 14,000 premises on the mainland and more than 650 trial users are already connected.

In The Media: The NBN Will Save You Money

Imagine if you could pay half the cost for your internet connection.

A survey has found that despite the fact we all love to hate the NBN plan, it's actually going to save you time and money.

WhistleOut - a leading comparison site - found users could pay up to 43 per cent less for an NBN connection than they pay today for an equivalent ADSL2+ plan.

Title: Labor's NBN - on time, on budget and truly nationwide

Labor's NBN - on time, on budget and truly nationwide

The National Broadband Network is Australia’s single biggest infrastructure program.

•It will deliver affordable, high speed broadband to all Australians, no matter where they live.
•93 per cent of Australian homes, schools and business will be connected with fibre and will receive speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second;
•Remaining premises will be connected with a combination of next-generation wireless and satellite, providing peak speeds of at least 12 megabits per second - much faster than most Australians receive today.
Future NBN uses include:

•Farming - Farmers can electronically track their livestock or monitor their crops and get instant access to market and weather information. They will upload their stock for sale via video-conferencing and sell their stock directly rather than through a middle man.
•Business - Fast broadband will help manufacturers transport and store their products. Businesses can market to customers no matter where they are and compete in the global market.
•Students - The NBN will open up new worlds to our students, such as 3D interactive learning experiences and specialist training for teachers. Together with our computers in schools program, it will ensure our students have full access to the technology of the 21st century.
•Health  - The NBN will help doctors, patients and allied health professionals. Health monitoring will enable the elderly and people with chronic illness to stay in their homes longer.  It will improve the quality of life for ageing Australians.
Labor is the only major party committed to the NBN.

We’re delivering the world class telecommunications for all Australians – on time, on budget and truly nationwide.

And we’re on track for a Budget surplus in 2012-13

We don't need a new super dopper internet network that will cost the user more to USE.

Just fix the system we already have so they work properly at high speed.

hay but wait a minute we retreach so many of our telecommunications workers a few years ago.

where do we now find the people with the knowledge

You really don't understand do you? never mind not worth trying to explain as you think Abbott is holy and close to saintly now don't you?

The current system cannot be fixed it is f@c%ed. Sometimes you need to replace it not just sing more nationalist crap songs about "tie it up with wire". That was the Howard way, sell it off and watch it sink to sh1t, hey then blame labor. Working a treat for Abbott, he cannot believe how well Howards education policies worked at dumbing down the country.

NBN is obviously necessary for Australia. It's the most correct decision of ALP.

The only issue is will they upgrade the connections to the other parts of the world?
