Title: The Left to blame for science denial?
Post by astro_surf on May 31st, 2011 at 10:02pm
I think The Left, that homogenous bloc that represents everything that isn't Liberal (note the capitals, people) in this country, are actually the ones to blame for the high rates of science denial in this country.

When I read comments like this:

High Priest Greg Combet somehow connects hot summers with climate change/global warming. I wonder what he'll say about the coldest May on record? High Priest Greg Combet also quoted a passage from his book "Shyte, I'm Scared" when he said that we would experience reduced rainfall. I hope he doesn't tell Queenslanders..

I literally am at a loss as to how to approach it. Obviously, this is a person who is so scientifically illiterate that they can't understand the concept of a long term trend or statistical noise but at the same time I have a strong urge to ridicule them because they are so obviously tasking a political, not scientific, position.

But, maybe if they'd had more comprehensive exposure to science education while at school they wouldn't only have an understanding of these concepts but they'd have a great all round respect for science.

Instead, I think that the focus on humanities in education over the last thirty years, driven primarily by left leaning unions and teachers, has led to a decline in the emphasis placed on science. If  these denier actually understood science then maybe they wouldn't be so easily misled by the media.

Thoughts?

I never got the imrpession there was undue focus on humanities. The media is always decrying a shortage of hard science graduates and people are encouraged into that, into practical TAFE courses etc.

Greedy people simply seek to hide their greed behind whatever they can: INCLUDING BULK PROPAGANDA.

SALAD IN ISN'T STUPID: HE JUST ACTS STUPID ... it's the age old political trick of sticking your finger in your ears and not listening!

I'd go so far as to say he believes in Climate Change and the need for action and is just helping to press the pause button to help big business adjust its business models to the coming new paradigm!

... because in the end time is the real factor that counts in the end: Napolean said this and so did the art of war and just about every other thinking person including you and me!
