Title: Indian Secularism Post by muso on Apr 30th, 2011 at 9:09am
I listened to an interesting segment on Late Night Live a couple of days ago on Indian Secularism.
http://abc.com.au/rn/latenightlive/stories/2011/3202483.htm The transcript will probably come up within a week or so, but Professor Rajeev Bhargava made some interesting comments about secularism in India with its multi-religious social background as compared to secularism in the UK for example, which sort of arose from a society that was predominantly Christian. He makes the point that the UK and Europe (probably Australia too) could learn from Indian secularism and he makes some quite controversial points about the need to 'step in' when religions got out of hand. |

I think I heard some of that muso, but it didn't go in, i was too busy. I remember thinking that it was a long time since protestants and catholics had engaged in ritual slaughters of each other in Britain, (Discounting N.I. naturally :-) I'll have a look.
