Yet another CC debate with no climate scientist. Plenty of opinions but no science. |

havent you figured it out yet smithy its all about M.O.N.E.Y. they are running out of ways to T.A.X. us... it all sounds very warm and fuzzy saying it will cut carbon lol.. I wonder who we will depend on to PROVE that to us... Swan or Garnaut?.. even Garnaut said it would take a thousand years..shows how much faith he has in the science. |

Garnaut, Milne and co did NOT convince me of anything other than they are full of hot air - they should be taxed on their emissions.

It is not a climate change debate. It is a carbon tax debate. With an economist. |

My point being that the debate whether it be on the science or tax is that through the discourse of the discussion the science will be discussed and stupid ideas like Bolts "No effect from reduction for 1000 years" If someone with the qualifactions is there they can knock that stupidity down with facts. With the amount of disinformation out there we need the scientists there no matter the debate to refute them and educate the general populace. :) |

But that's not Bolt's idea...It's Flannery's statement.. |

That Bolt twisted to suit his argument Gizmo I read the thread in envronment you aren't ignorant. You know Flannery and the science is saying we have already locked in 1 to 2 degrees of warming and that the whole debate now is about stopping it from going higher and reaching those tipping points. |

No. It was Abbott's horribly mangled 'misunderstanding' of Flannery. http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1301394442/0 |

There is no consensus on what is locked in or what it even is. What a stupid statement from Flannery. You guys just lap this stuff up. |

FD... whats the difference between a few hundred years and a thousand???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? just asking in case you are planning to be around so you can claim ABBOTT was wrong and "I told you so".. flannery sounds to me like he is taking a bet eachway. as someone who doesnt have to make the call..tax/or no tax.... can I say.. its all right for them? if anyone/thing can stop this juggernaut known as Mother Nature I dont think a TAX will do it somehow!!! |

It does not take a genius to figure out that the point at which it 'makes a difference' is not the same as the point at which temperatures stop climbing and begin to drop. There are vastly different scenarious that could involve anything from a very gradual rise over the next few centuries to a runaway heating effect. Even more troubling is the number of people leaping at this with glee thinking they are suddenly onto something, even after it has been explained to them how Abbott misunderstood a rather simple statement. The media liason people always tell scientists to stop and think about how any statement to the media could be misinterpreted, but there is a limit to how idiot proof we can expect our scientists to make their public statements. I THINK ITS LEGITIMATE TO LOOK AT THE IMPLICATIONS AND NOT THE SCIENCE, AS THE SCIENCE IS SETTLED. IF THE SCIENCE ISN'T SETTLED THEN THAT'S ANOTHER STORY! |
