NBN head of construction Flannigan quits

Patrick Flannigan has quit as NBN Co Ltd's head of construction, the national broadband network developer has confirmed.

An acting head of construction has been appointed, Dan Flemming, who was until now the company's general manager of construction, design and planning, a spokeswoman told AAP on Tuesday.

"We are disappointed with his decision to resign as he was a valuable member of the leadership team," the spokeswoman said.

"We wish him all the best for the future."

According to the NBN Co website, Mr Flannigan was the founding managing director and chief executive of Service Stream Ltd, a major provider of infrastructure, construction and maintenance services to the telecommunications sector and broader utilities sectors.

He also founded and was non-executive chairman of Australasian Maintenance Services Company and has held general manager and senior management positions in publicly listed contract labour company Skilled Group Ltd.

First they've had to shred all the tenders, now they lose the head construction guy.

What a disaster this NBN is for the country and its taxpayers and the people who will be dragooned into using it.

Curious - how is the rot setting in at NBN Co because a person resigns?  People aren't allowed to resign anymore?

why, cause they have operated in a shroud of secrecy ?
endlessly changed plans ?
wasted millions and a year.
achieved nothing financially viable
wasted the resources of aussie coys they short listed that then quoted for them ?

if I quoted again, it'ld be through the roof

and yet so far they've saved $7 billion.  It's pretty shameful to wish for a blow out :(

I can invisage a cost blow-out of atleast $20bil when all is said and done.

mr flannigan did the right thing, leave a sinking ship.
it's the best thing for his own career.

And wishing for extra government waste is purely stupid - at the end you need to be helping keep them to account to make sure they delvier within the $36B.  Not sit there cross your fingers and hope for over-expenditure so you can say, "I told you so."

The evidence is all around us in the most wasteful govt in Australian history. The hard evidence will be shredded in Labor's end days.

Yep, you do.  And until such a time as you can work out what else to say, it's currently $36Billion, and as voters we need to be sitting there keeping an eye on things and making it known we will not stand for a blow out.  Not sit here and pray for one.

what savings... wasnt that when they made the usual miscalculations.. it started off at $42bill and then went down to $36bill..of course it give a dollar or two..lol
