Treasury documents predict householders would pay more than $860 a year under a $30 a tonne carbon tax.

However, the documents released under Freedom of Information (FOI) laws do not estimate the size of the promised compensation for businesses and households.

They show electricity would rise by $218.40 annually for the average household, gas by $114.40, petrol by $187.20 and food by $88.40.

Adding impacts to other goods and services, the total added cost per week of a $30 carbon tax would be $16.60, if fuel were excluded under the plan.

ALL services will be impacted.

So what's the increase in that?

How about the multiplier effect for value added processes?

$16.53 p/ week
Well we'll know what the true impost is once the compensation is released.
Those above the threshold that cant afford $17 p/ week need a budget.
Sorry Maqqa but big deal

True

But this is JUST for 3 categories and a sample basket of goods which is very modest.

Voters should look around their home and see what else they buy in terms of goods and services

Using any service whereby the service provider uses electricity (can anyone think of any service providers not using electricity)
Costs of running government departments will increase means higher taxes
Cost of providing street lights will increase means higher rates
Doctor's call out fees
Taxi fares
RDNS will cost more to run means reduced services
Hospital machines will cost more to run means more taxes
Buses will be more expensive to run means hire fares

So the real cost is alot more than the $800

As per Treasury comment below - they don't believe the Carbon Tax will meet targets

Therefore Gillard will have to buy Carbon Credits from overseas. Since the budget is already in deficit therefore we will be deeper into debt

http://au.finance.yahoo.com/news/Treasury-releases-carbon-tax-abc-2563715618.html;_ylt=Ajv0AYa2fEdw1M3lUA9Yr7nCWo9G;_ylu=X3oDMTE4YWtodnNiBHBvcwMzBHNlYwN5ZmlUb3BTdG9yaWVzBHNsawN0cmVhc3VyeXJlbGU-?x=0

But the documents also show a carbon tax will not guarantee that any emissions outcomes will be reached, possibly forcing the Government to buy international permits in order to meet its national commitments to cut carbon emissions by 2020.

One Treasury minute says the carbon pollution outcomes under a tax, or a fixed-price start, would be uncertain.

It goes on to say if carbon pollution levels exceed our national targets, then the Federal Government could purchase international units to enable Australia to meet its international commitments.

This is obscene, it really is.

Prices go up - we know that and we budget for that.

But for a Government to deliberately impose a tax which will increase prices for no reason whatsoever - what the bugger is going on with Australia?

There is no need for a carbon tax - no need for it whatsoever.

The producers will simply pass it on to the consumer.
The Government says it will provide temporary relief for people to pay it.

Ok well what about when that temporary relief stops? Does the tax stop too?
What about those of us who don't get the relief? We just have to pay more for the same services we get today??

This is just ridiculous.

In Australia you already have a cost of living over 150% of what we have in the United States for everyday items - you think you should start paying even more???

This is just plain idiocy.
