Title: No tax cuts or immigration til homeless housed Post by Equitist on Apr 1st, 2011 at 3:29pm Until all of Australia's homeless are properly housed and all disaster reconstruction work has been completed, there shall be no further expenditure on: - * Asylum Seekers * Immigrants * Private Schools * Private Hospitals * Private Child Handling facilities * Private Training facilities * Corporate WEALTHfare * Infrastructure Furthermore, there shall be no tax cuts and no additional immigrants allowed into the country - by boat or plane or any other means. Is this what Abbott & Co are proposing, when they complain about the waste on asylum seekers v's homeless!? |

Title: Re: No tax cuts or immigration til homeless housed Post by Equitist on Apr 1st, 2011 at 3:33pm Seriously, if the Libs really cared one iota about Australia's homeless, then they would have implemented policies during the Howardian Era - and they would have official polices now! As it is, Tony Abbott blames the homeless for their plight - saying that they "choose" to be homeless... Go figure, eh!? |

I'm looking forward to them try to refute and still claim that "the money can be used for the homeless."
Well, yes it can. BUT WILL IT?! You didn't seem to have problems sleeping when Howard spent 11 years INCREASING those without a home, rather than decreasing. |

Private schools get about a third per child from the government as a public school student.
Their parents pay taxes too, why shouldnt they get funding from the government to provide for their childrens education as well? Its no different to a public school student getting a free education from the tax payer, and using the difference in money to pay for a private tutor? The more kids in private education the better for the tax payer, but stop demonising them already for doing it, they get less from the government than public schools. |

which government? The state government covers the majority of public school funding, which is their obligation. The federal government doesn't have to provide funding to any school, and yet they do on the basis that each child deserves to be supported to gain an education, which I agree with. However, from the federal level it is highly disproportionate and their majority of funding goes to private schools. I'd much prefer a system of giving the money to the child in the form of a voucher they would give to their school; the true way of ensuring each child gets the same funding from the federal government to gain an education.. |

Weeeelll most homeless are homeless for 1 of 2 reasons, neither of which can be addressed by government policy.
1. They are mentally ill. 2. They are just plain old idiots. |

people who don't use public transport so should they get a rebate on their petrol bill and car repairs. They pay taxes too so why should they subsidy people useing public transport, the fares they paid wouldn't cover the cost of the trip. Pensioners can go from my town to the next town for $2.50 return and it is about 100km round trip More people driving then using public transport is less stress on transport |

Thy - it is truely sickening. Not only did they not do anything -but now the 'pretend to care' . I'm not sure which is worse. I live very close to 3 large separate newly or still being built Commonwealth housing projects- that I must add look great . Nothing of this sort in the 12 'prospers 'Howard years. If anything I watched Commonwealth housing been TAKEN away changed to Naval housing. The issue I do have with Labor is the handling of assylum seekers. |
