Title: war zone burwood nsw.... Post by djrbfm on Mar 12th, 2011 at 11:44pm
ok, ok.
sooooo, i was walkin' down the street a coupla days ago, and here's my favorite discount chemist in Burwood Rd with a security guard hovering outside the door. soo, i asked a shop assistant what for? apparently, plenty shop lifting incidences happening. ok, fair enough, maybe.......... but this shop has narrow walk ways between the shelving, which soars to ceiling height. claustrophobic? much!!!!! and their prices are not much cheaper than anywhere else. my question is: what's next? other businesses in Burwood copy this? pretty soon you've got these guards on every shop front that can afford them? it's going to look like a war zone down there. is this happening anywhere else that you guys know of? your own suburb 4 instance? j. |

could be that a discount chemist stocks a fair whack of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride?

The joys of the unplanned and mindless mixing of the dregs of the global village.

I disagree, when there`s a theft, I actually blame the theif, not the victim. |

we have alate night Chemist in Canberra closes 11pm...in a very posh suburb...and it too have a guard on its doors..I assume for the robbers benefit.... not sure about shoplifting.most suburban shopping centres are ill lit in this town as well at night very spooky. I feel for the assisstants as it cant be much fuin being held up with a knife or a gun.. they have a right to feel safe in their work place.
ask where are the friggin police. |

Of course theft pushes profits down as well as it pushes prices up. Theft is equally wrong whoever the victim is, the shop owner, or their customers. To steal from someone one is envious of doesn`t make it right. |

A bit of an overreaction don't you think? Its just a security guard out the front of a shop. I've just come back from a trip to the Philippines. Over there security guards are out the front of most shops and they have metal detectors and "pat downs" before you enter a shopping centre. They have big signs out the front saying "no firearms permitted". They have a bad gun culture in the Philippines. |

hi, what concerns me is, that other shop owners will do the same. Burwood is fast becoming overcrowded. and these ppl on the street would make it even worse. security guards do serve a function, but really, have little authority. mainly scare tactics. in fact if they touch you, it's assault, pure and simple. the blame for all this is to be placed on Burwood Council and its Mayor, Virginia Judge. both are corrupt, and only interested in money, not the well being of Burwood residents. j. |
