Title: People who impersonate others from Yahoo
Post by Lisa on Mar 10th, 2011 at 9:47pm
Ok Mods .. what's the deal re those who impersonate other people from Yahoo.

Tonight I took on and discovered that the id FRENCHYJEN70 who posts on here is in fact NOT my close friend who has been posting under the id FRENCHYJEN70 on Yahoo for many years.

And the id on this board under the name FRENCHYJEN70 even tried to make me think it was her.

I would appreciate a reply about what happens to anyone who has deliberately set out to impersonate another online persona from Yahoo .. and then seen fit to deliberately deceive others on OzPolitic by pretending to be that person.

Regards

Lisa

Here .. take a look Mods.

I find it disgusting that a person would stoop so low as to emulate another person by deliberately copying their exact name .. letters and numbers so as to make others think it was a person from another message board. And then attempt to pretend they were that person in a deliberate and pathetic attempt to deceive others.

What IDs are created on another site have no relevence away from that site.

Creating an ID on one site doesn't mean you own that ID globally.

To assume that an ID on this site is being used by the same person who used that ID on another site is simply stupid.

Love you avatar Life-goes-on.

Makes me think of the upcoming war between a deflated Russia
and an over-extended China.

Both going Hammer and Tong. ;D

There's probably a few impersonators from Yahoo on these boards, Lisa.

The 'tickfen' who posts here isn't the one from Yahoo either.

What's Yahoo? - or at least, what is its relevance here? As long as people abide by the site rules, anything else is irrelevant.

I'll let you into a secret. My real name is not muso.  ;)

WHile I do not understand why anyone would want to impersonate a user from another site and think it a disgracefull thing to do I also agree it has no relivance to the moderators of this site.

In some cases it may not be intentional, like the real world multiple people have the same names and nick names, if someone is using your id on one site it does not stop you from registering the same name on a different one.

I agree. while it is dd and a little lame to deliberately impresonate someone, it really doesnt matter as no one knows who you are anyhow. the serious posters use only their own ID anyhow.

The matter has been reported .. the relevant Mods are now aware of what has happened here and the matter will be addressed by them.

For the record .. I condemn any troll like the id FRENCHYJEN70 from Oz Politic who impersonates and clones another online persona and then pretends to be that person.

Regards to all.

Those that accuse others are usually those that are doing it themselves.
Much like the old gestapo trick to gain the confidence of others, shoot one of your own or anybody else so to prove you are not one of them.

Talking about sex - which we weren't - I'm quite partial to the Gestapo uniform.
I'm seeing a blonde with long legs in black boots with a Gestapo jacket. Anything with the colors red & black really.

Can I just correct something. When I said 'I'm seeing a blonde . . .' I didn't actually mean I'm seeing her now - no, those pleasures are sadly long denied me - I meant I'm seeing her in my minds eye.
Just in case you were wondering.

perhaps you would get a better response if you showed us where frenchyjen70. ozpol... pretended to be the one you claim she/he is not...

from what little I read I couldnt see any claim to be your friend..

a name is a name.. no one person owns it..google your real name and see what happens.

now if you were a racehorse.. well you could send a very nasty threatening letter..lol

True that.

But, when the imposter knows that there are quite a few Yahoo people here and the imposter tries to make the Yahoo person they're impersonating look like a troll then that's a totally different situation and needs to be stopped.

Exactly!

And the Oz Politic id that posted here last night under the name FRENCHYJEN70 is an imposter who tried to do just that.

And when I caught them out .. funnily enough they scattered and logged off.

It will be interesting to see if they have the guts to come back on  esp after being outed.

Then again trolls who clone others have no sense of decency .. so who knows.

No it's not, this is. ;D ;D ;D ;D
Sorry, that is a little Mod joke, muso locked the thread, obviously to put an end to the silliness of so many of the replies here, but I think that the point that Lias was making is an important one that we should take the trouble to make ourselves aware of.

A while ago here on OzPolitic, somebody thought it funny to register as mozzaok1, and then make post that expressed some very extreme and tasteless views that were pretty much the exact opposite of my own core values.
It provoked a few people to contact me and inquire as to what the hell I was thinking, as they did not notice the 1 appended to my nick, and so believed that I had made the offensive post.
I was annoyed at both the pettiness, and cowardice of the person involved, and so I can fully empathise with others who feel they have been either duped, or misrepresented, by such pathetic, cowardly actions.
So, I think we should all be aware that there are some people whose personal idiosyncrasies may inspire them to try and create havoc and confusion, and try and be alert to the fact that it is easy to create a new nick, so if something is posted that seems out of character, double check if it is actually made by the person you think it is, or by some pathetic clone, clown.

Now that is the final word, I will relock this now, as I agree with muso's instinct that it is a topic that may just attract too many personal attacks.
