Climate Change Minister Greg Combet yesterday said Opposition Leader Tony Abbott's prediction that the carbon tax would inspire a "people's revolt" was borrowed from the US. "It's (from) the Tea Party, the far right of US politics," Mr Combet said. source: http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/breaking-news/caller-threatens-independent-mp-tony-windsor-over-carbon-tax/story-fn3dxity-1226014343772 |

But WAIT ...
There's MORE Colin Barnett warns of 'Tea Party' GST revolt February 24, 2011 7:55PM WEST Australian Premier Colin Barnett has warned of a "Tea Party" style revolt in his state if the commonwealth doesn't offer a fairer deal on sharing GST revenue. "I think the commonwealth, certainly at a public service level in Canberra, understands that basically you've got a Tea Party situation in Western Australia," Mr Barnett said. "The Tea Party movement in the United States is basically a public revolt, if you like, against excessive taxation and regulation. http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/colin-barnett-warns-of-tea-party-gst-revolt/story-e6frfku0-1226011581391#ixzz1FLYKZkOJ |

Smithy - I have had the benefit of watching a bit of C-Span the last few months and like with GWB (who spoke so well at our conference) the media portrayal of her is wrong and unfair.
She makes very good points and I find a lot of similarities with her on issues. She loves America, she wants whats best for it, she believes in the free market, she believes in small Government, she believes in Reagan's vision for America, she believes in strong US foreign policy. She like me, abhors Obama's vision on healthcare and taxes. America needs less Government, not more. When you have the Chairman of GMC calling Obama "one of the most arrogant men I have ever met" - and here we have a guy that has played golf with every President since Nixon - then we have a problem. |

I think you'll find it quite hard to find any politician these days in a democratic country who doesn't believe in free market or love their country, and want what's best for it. The key point is for the person to actually have a vision for the country and be smart enough to pull it off. Too bad she is as thick as a door knob. Like most nutter right wingers, of course. |

Thick as a doorknob? Not a term I have heard before, but I take your point, she is seriously stupid, in many areas, and while people bemoan her treatment by the non Fox media, nothing they say condemns her more, than the rubbish that spews from her own mouth. Seriously thick?? Sure is. Responsible option to lead the USA? Never. |

Never let it be said Republicans do not compromise smithy.....
The US House of Representatives has approved a measure to fund the US government for a further two weeks, avoiding a looming shut-down. The bill from the Republican-led chamber would cut government spending by $4bn (£2.45bn) in that period. It now goes to the US Senate, which has said it will pass the bill. Funding for government operations was set to expire on Friday, as Democrats and Republicans have been unable to agree on a budget. The bill passed in a 335-91 bipartisan vote. It cuts into programmes that President Barack Obama had already proposed eliminating or trimming and opens a window of time for White House officials and Republican and Democratic leaders to negotiate on a budget to keep the government running until the end of the fiscal year on 30 September. Economic impact "We'll pass this and then look at funding the government on a long-term basis," Democratic Senate Leader Harry Reid of Nevada said on Tuesday. At the White House, spokesman Jay Carney called on congressional leaders to approve a longer-term budget rather than keep negotiating a series of two-week budget deals. "We do not believe would be helpful - in fact, we believe it would be harmful to the economy, and therefore, not something the American people would support - if we created a tollbooth where we are negotiating again and again on continuing resolutions to fund the government for two weeks or another short-term period," he said. Republicans had been pressing for much more severe cuts, passing a bill last month that would have sliced $61bn from the federal budget by the end of the fiscal year. But Democrats in the US Senate opposed that measure and Mr Obama vowed to veto it, saying the cuts would hinder economic growth and slash education, research and infrastructure spending too far. |

That can't be right Smithy, the ever responsible right wingers stripping huge amounts away from education, health and public spending, while reducing the taxes of the wealthiest individuals and corporations?
Surely it is a mistake? Maybe they just are trying to use it as a motivational tool? They may be training the american people to be hungry for success, by making them literally hungry? Education is certainly something the right needs to attack, because they know full well that their support drops off dramatically amongst people with a tertiary education, those limp wristed lefties, reading too damned many books is their problem. God bless america, the envy of right wing loons the world over. |

Well dont' say that 'we Australians' haven't been warn of what the mainstream corporate media and the Liberal national party are doing. They have decided to import US-style hate politics to this country - complete with the deliberate spreading of lies and misinformation .
Sad thing is IF you do not want to Vote Labor and you appose the greens this is what many will vote for. And it is always harder to go back- to the ' good old days - or ways '. very very sad. |

Whilst I am no huge fan of the Tea Party - they do represent the key thing with which I hold dear.
Small Government! People spend their money better than a Government ever will! Lower taxes, private healthcare, private education, job creation, lower interest rates, increased price competition. Everything that I am about. |

The Tea Party movement is not a solution it is reactionary, less Government intervention in our lives is Great, but actually we need things like universal health care - what we dont need is a scientific elite determining who is worthy of treatment and who is not. Currently our taxation system and the corporate distributes all funds according to Philanthropical and Applied science principles and the state refuses to look after those most in need - in fact it treats them as criminals or genetically undesirable. These values are inconsistent with who we are as a people, our system of laws and Government, they are inconsistent with every stride and advancement we have made towards a more civilized and equitable society based on liberty. 8-) Juliar Gillard must Go as must Bob Brown, they are unworthy of the Parliament. :) |
