Title: 2011's Big Issue Post by Greens_Win on Jan 23rd, 2011 at 6:28am
2011 is the year when Australians pressurise the old political parties to act on their Will ... time to legalise V.E
Labor and Liberal MPs have forgotten Australia is a democracy. Voluntary Euthanasia is an issue for me. I require the right - should the time come - to be able to say: ''I've had enough. The pain is too great. Give me the lethal injection.'' Four-fifths of the population feels the same way. Only the fanatical moral minority opposes voluntary euthanasia. It should be emphasised that voluntary euthanasia means just that. No one will be compelled to seek termination of their life. Safeguards are not difficult to devise. A doctor would provide lethal treatment to a consenting patient to alleviate suffering. The strict process, as outlined by the Dying With Dignity organisation, would require at least two doctors to confirm the diagnosis and prognosis. Anyone who wanted more, could seek as many opinions as he or she wanted. And cooling-off periods would be required. A patient could not simply request a lethal injection today, have two doctors look at him tomorrow and get it all over and done with in 24 hours. Greens leader Bob Brown has introduced legislation to reverse the Howard government's act which stops the ACT and Northern Territory assemblies from making their own laws governing the issue. The baby boomers, who are now giving us an ageing population, have pioneered many changes in society. Today some of these oldies maintain a rational outlook on life and death. It's time parliamentarians across the land granted these people the freedom to end their suffering should they have a terminal illness and live in great pain. ttp://www.theage.com.au/opinion/right-to-die-surely-a-bigger-deal-than-gay-marriage-20110122-1a0nn.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdxd_EFDd4s |

Oh, I wouldn't say that BB hasn't achieved anything unbiased_view. After all, he has conned the gullible such as greens_win, Krudd, Wong and all the other fruit loops with his rantings. The poor old Greens are wetting themselves for not winning all those seats in Victoria that they were expecting to win.
Maybe they had better go back into their caves and pop some more pills. The Labor Party are fools to accommodate the Greens they way there are doing, but then, Labor would never win anything if the Greens didn't preference them. Notwithstanding, Keneally and her mob of larrikans are on the way to oblivion - how can so many people be so stupid as to keep voting the NSW Labor rabble into power year after year is a mystery. |

Is this why the Hard Right is in such a panic The unAustralian newspaper is in a constant pickle over The Greens Victoria's Hard Right tried to undermine The Vic Greens yet the Vic Greens grew in support. And now in NSW, NSW Greens have the potential of moving into runner up position in the next election. Greens are the party that represents the Will of Australians The Hard Right and Flip Flop Labor opposes the Will of Australians. Why do The Hard Right treat voters as children by opposing Australian's right to self determination in life and in death? |

This is why the Hard Right are in the wilderness in federal parliament. Mr Abbott's men couldn't get along with the Independents or The Greens. If you can't play then you rule yourself out of politics. The funniest part of this is some of the Independents are originally from the Right. ROFLMAO Abbott has split his own party. |

Why thank you W4M, yet how can you speak for most posters. Did you take a poll? Yet more wild claims with no substance from the Hard Right. Perhaps if you lot really would like to take a look at polls, take a look at the latest poll for majority support of legalising Voluntary Euthanasia in Australia. Why do the Hard Right oppose the Will of The Majority of Australians? |

So this is the type of thinking from the Hard Right Only those that are in paid employed have any value to society. Is this why the hard right hate women, hate the unemployed, hate the sick and hate the retired age pensioner. If Money is your God, get down and worship your false idol. |

I hardly think V.E will be a major issue this year though maybe a vocal side issue like gay marriage.
Both while worthwhile of debate and eventually may come about they will not dominate and if Mr Brown thinks to hijack debate and force these issues will find himself on the wrong side of the public. We have far more pressing issues, Labor need to the next 2 years to show results. They need the NBN up and running for at least 40% of the population and keep it costs for the consumer at a reasonable level for all. There will need to be noticable progess in the re-consrtuction of QLD and VIC after the floods. Whilst I am one of the growing number calling for the fixation on surplusses to end they still need to negate the to predictable squeal from the Liberals about debt by reducing it by a significant level. If labor can achieve these few things plus a few other without the stuff ups of the first term then after the next election the issues you raise can be looked at, and your best hope for them to be considered seriuosly is Labor, but if the Greens hijack and hamstring Labor in the senate over these issues and the other issues are held up you do nothing but guarantee a Abbott victory and loss of senate control. |

Meaning it will be completely and utterly irrelevant for 99.9% of normal people? The most important issue in 2011 will be cost of living pressures for middle Australia and working families. People's budgets are tight, there is talk of increasing costs across the board and people can't afford it. This is infinitely more important that VE or whether a pair of queers can play husband and wife. |

dsmithy, I notice you made no mention on a carbon price. It was labor's backflip on the anti environment ETS that began the downfall of Mr Rudd. Is Labor that dumb that they will either put human caused climate change into the too hard basket, or worse, try and con Australians again with weak targets and reverse policies.
If they do then they risk Julia Gillard as leader, and losing her will be a major blow for Labor. |

And as if to prove my point -
A carbon tax will increase the cost of living to everyday Australian homes. Not acceptable. There is no need for one. |

I'm pretty sure it was DNA who said this(Carbon Price) will be a major policy platform for the next election. She cant just ram it through after campaigning on not introducing one during her term, the liberals quite rightly would be unrelenting in ramming the message of dishonesty home.. It will be like the GST for Labor negating the Liberals attack ads with their own words. I agree with him totally, its the next elections major issue and the public will decide. |

Yet did you suffer personally from the Catastrophic Victorian Wildfires or will you be inflicted by higher food prices, loss of employment, destruction of property, loss of family or friends from the killer floods Andrei.
I suppose next you will be saying CO2 isn't a greenhouse gas and coal pollution doesn't warm the environment so increasing the intensity of weather/climate extremes. Short sighted on climate change due to personal financial gain is not a good look now in Australia. Just letting you know since you seemed to have lost touch. |

I hope it is smithy. If I was running a campaign about it, I would bang on and on about the $ effect it will have on people's budgets. People vote based on their back pocket in the end. Sure everyone wants a nice environment. But if Labor go to the election with a plan to INTRODUCE a tax which will increase cost of living, do nothing for the environment and have zero effect on anything. Well, let them roll the dice. |

The more Labor fiddles while Australia burns, drowns and food prices soar, the more costly it will be for Labor come election time. You mentioned that Labor must act on the rebuild of Qld & Vic, yet why bother if you don't go to the root causes of these disasters. Building on flood planes and increasing Greenhouse gases from coal pollution. Greens will likely benefit as far as votes are concerned if Labor does fiddle, yet Australia(n) will suffer greatly. As you are well aware, there is a trigger point to the unleashing of massive amount of methane (20 time heat trapping than CO2) currently locked up under permafrost. You don't come across as a person that would play Russian roulette with your family's life. |

So the Hard Right will go to the next election supporting spiraling food prices from the effects of Human Caused Climate Change Disasters. A bit rich while you bang on about cost of living when Liberals are the man culprit in increasing food prices for every Australian. |

We will see, a few more natural disarsters and the back pocket just might lose. It's a difficult issue, personally I believe and am happy for the tax/levey whatever they call it to be introduced provided the poor and those on fixed incomes(penisions) are either exempt or compensated. But saying that the money collected needs to be invested in R&D for newables not given as rebates for pollution and I dont see anything like what I'd be happy with on the table from any party. So as the pilot say as the plane goes down "smok'im if you've got them", I continue to enjoy the full benefits cheap power provides. |

I understand your points smithy - I don't agree with an introduction of a carbon tax in any or form.
I particularly wouldn't agree with introducing a tax and then exempting certain sections. It seems to me that the usual benchmark they would pick would be $150k per annum - which you and I know is far from rich if you're trying to run a family of 4. Then again you can always package your salary to have $120k base and $30k car allowance - friends of mine did that last year and have got every benefit under the sun ;) Anyway I digress. A carbon tax for Australia, lets be honest would resolve nothing. Do you realize that actually should Australia go to zero emissions in total, it would still have no effect???? I could buy an increase in cost of living if I saw the environmental advantages. Simple fact is what does a carbon tax do?? I wouldn't use any less than what I do now, I wouldn't change my lifestyle in anyway - all we do is just pay more. How does that resolve anything???????? Think here of the family of four on a tight budget. They have little option. Don't worry about me, I'll continue as I please and pay whatever is needed - but some people can't do that!!! It's just pissing in the wind my friend, that's all it is. Without the Communists up north on board and the 1bn shoe shiners to their east, it's all nonsense. |

So you don't believe in the domino effect Andrei. Or do you and you're worried other economies would follow Australia towards a 100% green renewable electricity target and this would effect you and your job personally? There are 6 countries that are the major backbone to coal electricity carbon pollution, Australia being one of those six. Move these six economies off coal for electricity and this will solve AGW. |

Yes there is and its fast approaching. However, without a world dictatorship the politics will crawl along at a snails pace, with big oil using every trick big tobacco used plus a few of their own. Personally until that tipping point is reached I seriously doubt anything will be done then unfortunately it will do no good. |
