I am not sure I will ever understand how people can hold Leftwing views.

I mean for me, I don't necessarily feel I need class as Left or Right but merely the values I hold strong tend to be represented well by Tony Abbott.

I want -

A tax policy which encourages and rewards rather than penalises.

A policy which encourages personal responsibility - i/e look after yourself in healthcare and education and not rely on the state to provide.

Self responsibility - superannuation. People should be rewarded for saving for their own retirement and not expect the state to hand out to them.

Employment - Free worklaws which encourage greater degree of interaction between employer and employee and less union interference. Thus helping productivity and a more fluid workforce responding to changes in the marketplace.

Border Control and Population - Encourage skilled workers into Australia from suitable parts of the world where we can bridge the skills gap.
Stop problem people from coming in who do nothing but bring with them problems and are a liability.

Defence - Proactive engagement with key natural allies like the UK and US to make the world a safer place.

Climate change - Don't run a two tier system where we hinder our economic well-being with punitive measures but allow the world's worst polluters China and India a free run simply because they are later developers. Everyone should be treated the same.


None of these put me 'right' or 'left' but merely a sensible set of views.

Well...as a Lefty myself I don't hate the rightys at all.  In fact, well done to Tony for dragging the Coalition back from oblivion.

What i want to see now is the coalition in government.  I want to see all your policies coming to fruition.   I want to see the effect of cancelling the NBN, I want to see the boats stopped, I want to see all those great health promises supported.

Whilst it is good now to revel in the afterglow of a disasterous election result for the Labor party, the best is yet to come

And remember, next mid year, the greens take the senate.

You are assuming I knew someone personally. I do not know everyone in this country, but I have heard many stories of people losing their jobs because of workchoices.

Do you honestly think workchoices was good for this country? Don't forget, the majority of people voted out the Howard government because of it. That should tell you something.

What killed WC and the Howard govt was that peoples kids and grandkids were getting ripped off.

A nephew of mine was ripped off as regards his entitlements, one of those the cheap companies kept on a string for months. A niece of mine got unfairly dismissed, a job she rejected would have left her at the mercy of the boss re what days she had to work.

Howard of course was just the second PM to lose his seat. Stanley Bruce lost his about 80 years ago: that idiot too tried to fiddle the IR laws.

You like to talk about the supposed effect workchoices had, but why don't you mention the 457 visa rorts that skyrocketed under Krudd?No mention of the kids who had their jobs at mcdonalds taken by filipino imports, as if the job was so tough, no locals had the skills to do it?
