Title: Take a poll in the Ind seats.
Post by longweekend58 on Aug 22nd, 2010 at 11:07pm
How's this for an idea. Why dont Newspoll or Galaxy or whoever takes a major poll in each of the 3 independant's seats and actually asks the residents of these electorates who their newly elected members shoudl support for PM? Doesnt that sound fair and reasonable to you?

Just perhaps the 8% of labor supporters in the one electorate can each convince 10 others to abandon a lifetime of labor hating to install the hated labor into office?

So what do you think? is that not inherently democratic or what/ ASK THE PEOPLE!

you do have a point longy.. do people vote the independants/greens because they like their policies or because they hate the labs/libs..it does make you wonder we have the Labor party to thank for the elevation of the Greens..they both owe each other so much for being where they are today.if we have the so called hung parliamnet how about they have another election in these wards only...lets see if people really want to have a parliament controlled by the very very few..and the ones that got the least votes..because thats what we will have.

Why just three

Denison will have a Greens like independent, and then we have Greens in Melbourne.

a poll in all 5 may be more representative of the no old party electorates.

1. Because there is no provision in our constitution for such a procedure.

2. Because all democracies rely on politicians to resolve these matter through negotiation - a skill they should have in abundance.

It isnt a constitutional issue. a poll taken in the electorates would tell the members what THEY think of who they should support. You can do it ins the Greens electorate as well. What is wrong with, in an issue as incredibly important as WHICH GOVT to choose, allowing the people of that electorate to say which they shoudl choose. Far from being undemocratic it isn fact the very HEIGHT of democracy. In every other seat the voters selected a member that woudl vote for the govt they chose. The independants have never identified who they would support because it has never happened before. now that it has, they are in fact durty-bound to be guided by theor electorate!

and the reason would be because they would choose libs over labor?? do you even understand the CONCEPT ot 'principle'?

I think the indies will consider their respective electorates wishes. If they're in a fairly conservative seat,  they'll opt for the libs, in a fairly leftish seat maybe go more for labor.  They would know the general consensus in their electorates.

That said, I think they'll all be 'bought'.    8-)

Just a point on the Independents.

Coming from North QLD my wife said to me the last time she saw Bob Katter was a couple of years ago where he drove through Ayr and from a ute yelled out to two girls to 'get 'em out'.

Anyone who has spent anytime up there, will not be surprised he commands such a majority.
