Labor have blood on their hands from having knifed PM Rudd just short of him completing his term.

In other words, they decide who may be our PM, not us, irrespective of whether we voted for him or not.

I can tell you now, had Gillard ran for PM in 2007, I would have taken my chances with the Liberal party even though I had become rather disenchanted with their war-effort towards the end, and wanted Costello to run in Howards place.
I think Rudd was Labors conservative clatance  a "Howard" prop, the Howard you vote for when you are tired of the old one.

Labor tricked us into thinking that finally, they had evolved and become a more conservative,  capable of being responsible with our economy, when in fact, they were Left-wing communists in Liberal clothing all along, had no intentions of being conservative or delivering any of their pre-electoral pie-crust promises.

...easily made, easily broken.

. ... Hindsights a wonderful thing, never again will I even consider voting Labor , not after the mess they have made of our country.

Had Costello been leading the Libs party in 2007, I would have without a doubt, voted for him...(and not Rudd)...but given a choice between Howard or Gillard, I would have stuck with Libs.

They cheated us out of the PM we voted for, not that he was anything to write home about...but he like all their PM's are transient and the party itself rather dysfunctional.

Labor don't deserve a second term, given they failed to deliver across a number if not all key-policy areas last election.

Or had we forgotten?

How can we trust a party who steals others partys policies?

Obama called, apparently he wants his back!

8-)

Due to the recent divide in the Greens party, there's a good chance Labor will be deeply effected vote-count wise, and in crucial areas.

Many Greens members not at all being in favour of a Labor party.

Hence the divide!

Have the recent polls taken into consideration the recent divide in the Greens party, preference wise?

8-)

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/disunity-growing-in-the-greens/story-fn59niix-1225907977567

I might be mistaken, but I dare say some of them wont be preferencing in accordance with how Big Bob had hoped they would.

8-) Looks like they are now even rebelling against their own rebellious party even, and honestly, who could blame them.

Their preferencing Labor is hypocritical in itself, given Bob Brown himself insists the preference system should be abolished.

In other words, he doesn't agree with preferences, but he needs to look out for himself, so will turn a blind eye to it all the same.

If he had an ounce of integrity, he would have preferenced both Libs and Labs equally, or near equally, give and take a mutual policy or two.

At least then, his blatant hypocrisy would have been fair.

lol, no wonder the troppo set from the banana bender state thought they had it in the bag, those heat deranged nits have bought into Abbotts line of bull, so THANK GOD for we Victorians who have already delivered 2 extra seats to Labor, which may just be enough to see them hang on.
Fingers crossed.

When ever asked if I was an Aussie when I lived overseas, I would say, yes, but added that more importantly, I was a Victorian.

Proud to say that Melbourne has also delivered the seat of Melbourne to the Greens, which makes me also proud to be a native of a community with enough brains, to recognise their is also value in compassion.
These good citizens rejected Abbott's climate science denialism, and his xenophobic hate mongering against refugees, so well done to them for voting Greens and sending that message to Canberra.

I have been commenting on the yahoo news, which is unbelievably edited and censored. I will present the comment part a) was permitted b) not

a) "I just watched the Hockey impromptu speech on CH 9. Very interesting. What he said in the emotion of the moment, without forethought and choreography."

b)"He was excited at the prospect of upheaval and chaos within the Labor Government and the thought that the Liberals would gain Government next election. There was no mention or concern about Australia or Australia's future, rather Glee at a dysfunctional government which will harm Australia.** Think about what was shown when the facade slipped**"

The party who was in power and the chief architect of what was done to Pauline Hansen (Love her or hate her-that is unimportant ) it is the character and ethics that were displayed and exposed. The point is the illegal, unethical, immoral fraudulent actions taken by the liberal government spearheaded by Tony Abbot - a man who claims to be a christian. Even the judge that overturned the verdict was disgusted, fraud, perversion of the course of justice, was there also perjury. All to get rid of a nuisance. with the development of their guided democracy, what means will they use, and can you be certain that you will not be considered a problem at some point. ?

What will be really interesting is what the GALP do with the useless puff of air called Julia Gillard.

She crept up on Kev then buggered the entire election.

The Greens will see their swing to them evaporate in the first by-election and their seats in the senate slowly vanish as the Democrats before them.

I am also keen to see the wrangling within the Greens as they wrench themselves apart.

The first thing you will see is the bitter justification that they should have got more seats.  They know they failed to capitalise as the swing in the Hor was to the Lib/Nats, not them in any significant way.

What is going to be interesting is the postal vote, many voters overseas have not been subjected to the Australian Media and are able to be more objective. How many of you have taken note of the nasty personal attacks, the visual subliminal programming inherent in the pictures selected of both Julia and Tony, some of the photos of Julia have been disgusting, that one that had her looking like a blow up sex doll, the ones catching her mid gesture looking like a crazy person. Many of the postal voters were not influenced by that, and experienced first hand what is happening elsewhere

So you have joined the prescient club too Deepy?
Putting your personal opinion of what you hope the result may be as having already occurred, when it hasn't is usually called wishful thinking, but you can call it positive visualisation if it makes you feel better.

Meanwhile, the rest of us who have to make do with reality will anxiously wait to find out from the AEC who won how many seats, and after that is known, we may then have to wait even longer to see who is prepared to work with who, and whom the GG will give the nod to form a government.

Merely bothersome details for we real worlders, I guess it is much simpler for you clairvoyants.

Nah, not bitter per se - more numb and pensive than anything else (and no, I haven't been drinking at all)...

Not gonna pretend that I like nor trust Abbott - and I still think he's a dangerous narcissist - but there are still very mixed messages coming out of the commetariat so there is no victory and no defeat...yet...

OK, that is a nice sentiment there from mellie, and I think the people making silly comments should take their lead from that, and stop making snide comments, it is poor form, and unacceptable.

The fact that people who have not actually even won anything can be such terrible potential winners should be enough to make you take stock, and some personal responsibility.

I am closing this thread now, but if I see any nasty, stupid comments posted after I do, I will be giving undetermined timeouts.

So good night all, and congrats to the Libs for doing so much better than anyone could have dreamed a few months ago, and congrats to the Greens for doing brilliantly, and good luck to Gillard, and I hope she can hang on to enough seats to keep Abbott out of the top job, but none of us will know that for some time, so celebrate the performance of whoever you support, but do it without snide nasty comments.
Good night.

With history against the Lib/Nat coalition, this is a great victory for commonsense.

Even the GALP admit they were unpopular with Bill Shorten conceding Jules was the best they had.  Yet they were routed after a single term, not something one would expect considering the earlier popularity of the alleged PM Kevin Rudd.

Those like Maxine McWho will reveal the reality as Mark Latham did in 2004.

Now the Libs on the other hand had a bunch of mining billionaires with a very personal vested interest in seeing Abbott win, as he had promised to make sure that 9 billion dollars stayed in their personal pockets, rather than in the public purse, as well as the Tobacco companies supporting them, financially.
If either of these two groups feel that the many millions they spent on advertising for the coalition actually gained them a vote, then they can take their share of the credit for this result being so close.

If we do actually see Abbott get over the line and be able to form a government, we may see him replace the Laptops for schoolkids program with, Free "smokes" for schoolkids, as part of the payback deal, and mining exploration licenses granted for the backyard of the lodge. ;D ;D ;D ;D
