Questions so far;

Gay marriage.
How will you make reductions to the budget.
Why didnt you attend the budget costings release today.
Abortion, will you ban it (which was a BIG no by the way before vegi comes in)
Boats.
Agriculture unfair apportionment of drought assistance under labor.
Indiginous affairs.

And this is the first 20 minutes.

I still think this is better than a debate could ever be.  Makes the pollies accountable to a person asking the question, not a prescripted journalist.

Why was Bob Brown denied access to a debate.
What will you do for apprentices struggling for work.
What will you do for HECS debts (put the idea out that those that volunteer will get a credit on their HECS debt.)
Peak oil.
Workchoices (the lesson is learnt, it is just gone, totally gone).
Cost of living and pensioners.

Darn, I'm out until around 8pm - will have to rely on selective media soundbytes and posts on here... until the replay on ABC24...

What will the coalition offer to high income earning, no kids people? (Interesting answer, his response was he will try to put no additional burden on them, but will be offerring them nothing or incentives.  I think this was a trap question that he answered it well.)

Since you opposed the stimulation package would you oppose another one and would you bring in workchoices to avoid one. (workchoices, no, answered already, its gone.  Two packages, first of $10bi was fully supported by coalition. In Feb 09 gov wanted a $42b package which was batts, school halls etc. Said second was too much too soon and the rushed package was botched.)

Do you worry about your public image.

Will you rule out increasing the GST? Ans - Yes I will. (That was it).
Some question about the AMNE (or something like that, wife was talking.) I think it was Servicemans pensions.

What is the incentive for self funded retirees to vote for the coalition. (Will index seniors health care card.)

Mental health - Is the money for mental health coming from other health areas, and can we trust you on economic decisions. (This one is fiesty, re-directing health spending from breaucracy to mental health.  Current Australian of the year formuled the Coalitions plan for mental health.

Broadband (said $43b on one technology is short sighted, and fibre isnt that great since it does nothing for when you arent in the home.  Coalitions plan is along the same as New Zealand, and he doesnt want a government monopoly.  Made reference to ALPs filter and how much will it slow it down.  Said they will be doing some fibre).

Decline in international student numbers due to government restrictions on student visas.  (Made reference to unis selling an immigration product and not a student package, and he supported the ALPs current position).

Medical research. (Pledged an additional $150m above the current abouts)

Making provision for retirement, and the ALP cutting the super contributions cut from $100k to $50k.

Training of doctors.

Something like 27 questions.

Crowd was okay, a few claps, no boos or crowd chatter.

Big clap at the end.  Abbott shook a lot of hands on the way in.

Tragi-comedy about Lib “costings” of their policies—now Tone has added more spending?

Libs release costings about 3hours late:

Quote:
$3b surplus 12/13 and $6b in 13/14.

Yeah right, $30Bn unfunded spending promises, savings that are a joke, 2 days to pull this crap apart before Sat morning. they arrived at the figures to gazump Labor, pure and simple. this is going to be fun!

Yup:
$9.7b savings underpins it all.
He’s claiming savings from not proceeding with the thing the mining tax would fund.
BUT they are not recognising the revenue.

PB:

Quote:
Ha told you it was Horwarths doing the costings. The mob that stuffed up the LNP costings in Qld.

Howarths have said that the calculations are based upon the Coalition assumptions provided.
All they have done is the arithmetic. No testing on veracity of the assumptions.

That is why they never had any intention of sending the costings to Treasury/Finance, the over-optimistic (not so say mystic) assumptions would be tested as well as the arithmetic.

And these clowns think they can run our $1.3Trn economy???

(Note: 1.3Trn, despite the GFC the economy GREW!)

Gillards turn.
Missed a little bit from the start.
She has come to the floor, and learnt from last time.

Medical indemity.

Does she support more desalanation plants (Yes, and wants to buy the water back to concerve.)

What will you do different to Kevin Rudd (doesnt believe in a big Oz, claims she cares more about work, feels she was better placed to lead Oz instead of him, and believes she is best for Oz)

Paid parental scheme

Payroll problem of the medical profession, and medical registrations holding about 400 doctors out from working with unnecessary delays.  Blames the system brought in has slowed the registrations from a few days to now four months.

Kevin Rudd, do you feel like a hypocrite for disposing a PM with whom you were a member of the kitchen cabinet with Swan and Tanner.  Question got a clap from the crowd. (Didnt answer about Rudd

Death duties and something else.  (Answer was no)

More school teachers for students for kids with special needs.

Budget surplus, if you dont bring it back to surplus in 3 years what can you guareentee, and if you fail, will you stand at the next election.  (As given an iron clad guareentee it will be back in surplus, wont even entertain discussion that it might not)

(Really wish she would stop waving her hand around, very distracting)

In the Liberal party costings –
Quote:

– there is a $1.1 billion saving over the forward estimates entitled ‘PBS – Ensuring a Sustainable Healthcare System’.
Tone, what these cuts are and what do they mean for the sick? Who will lose out? What medicines will be cut? Is this a return to Abbott’s disinterest and uncaring self when it comes to those who are in need of desperate medical help aka Bernie Banton –

Trust, how do we trust you for your actions against Mr Rudd. (Feels she is the best for the party, made no reference to trying to regain the peoples trust.)

Last election you said the broadband would cost 4.5billion, now its costing 43 billion.  Is it going to be 10 times bigger, 10 times faster.  (Said they initally was going to have more private investment.)  What are the costs of it? (you pay for the speed you want)

How will you continue to improve youth allowance after the changes from this year. (no increase in the amount on the way at all)

http://au.news.yahoo.com/election/a/-/election/7785663/gillard-levels-score-despite-tough-questions/

Julia Gillard evened the score with Tony Abbott in the second "people's forum" last night, disappointing coalition strategists who had hoped a repeat of the new format would stoke momentum for government change at Saturday's election.

The Opposition Leader, who outshone the Prime Minister at a similar event last week in western Sydney, was subjected to much more hostile questioning at the Broncos Leagues Club in Brisbane.

Mr Abbott received curve ball questions on banning abortions, WorkChoices, his refusal to debate Ms Gillard on the economy and the National Broadband Network.

And though he handled them in a calm and measured way, there was less warmth in the room for Mr Abbott than there was in the Rooty Hill RSL last week.

Ms Gillard, who faced the audience of 200 uncommitted voters after Mr Abbott, also got difficult questions. She was asked if she was a hypocrite for "lauding" Kevin Rudd as a great achiever despite knifing him as PM.

It was one of four questions she got about the former PM and among some equally tricky questions about the massive cost of the NBN.

Mr Abbott told the audience the coalition was right not to support the Government's $42 billion economic stimulus last year because "we knew that rushing out programs like this weren't going to work (and) would result in terrible waste" and said the Government had overreacted to the global financial crisis.

"The school hall program is dragging on for four years . . . longer than the First World War to deal with a crisis that, in its acute phases, lasted about six to eight weeks," he said.

Ms Gillard rejected Mr Abbott's claim, saying the GFC was "the biggest economic shock the planet has ever had since the Great Depression" and that the Government's stimulus package had saved hundreds of thousands of jobs, whereas the Western world lost 16 million jobs.

Mr Abbott used the forum to announce a new policy: forgiving some HECS debt for students who give "considerable time" as volunteer workers to community organisations.

"It's only a pilot policy at this stage but volunteering is an important part of the Australian tradition," he said.

"It's not going to be for everyone and it'll start off small but that is an idea that came out of the 2020 Summit, it's not one that's been progressed at all by the Government."

Ms Gillard was asked what she would do if the Government was unable to bring the Budget back into surplus by 2013 as forecast.

"Failure is not an option here, and we won't fail," she said.

In a light-hearted moment, Ms Gillard was asked if she was prepared to stop supporting the Western Bulldogs and instead follow the Brisbane Lions.

She said she would not leave the Bulldogs, but suggested a "unity ticket" of people against Collingwood.

Even if Julia and Tone were rated as even (no way!) Tone lost because Tone needed a game changer but didn’t get it. He got shouty and desperate, quite the turn off.

Excuse, I watched the whole thing, and at no time did Abbott get shouty or desperate.

Verge, Tone needed a gamechanger but didn’t get it, so Julia won by default!

Sprinty, you do know Julia didn’t call the spill and tried hard to avoid it? But in the end decided she had to stand for the good of the Party and the country?

Tone damn well did get shouty and desperate! And gave a lot less answers than Julia, because he isn’t across all the policy areas that he should be across. a disaster as PM, can you imagine Tone at international conferences? “Pssst, what are we here for again?” and making repeated jokes about “No means no” a clown.

Julia knew what a gigabit was, tone thinks gigabit is what a rock band does, LOL!

it was pretty even stevens.

if it was gauged on who answered question directly and who wandered aimlessly, tony was miles ahead.

for the leftwits, as long as JUDAS is flapping her jaws, you are all glazed eyes.
same as you were for "KEV '07" - the useless loser

Firstly, Abbott didnt get even remotely shouty, he was calm.

As for the spill, are you acknowledging that it was the power brokers that put her there?

darwin - go through the transcript .

she hardly addressed any questions.
she keeps talkiing till the other side are overwhelmed with pure quantity of words.

it's a common tactic. keep talking till the other side give up.

Even if Julia and Tone were rated as even (no way!) Tone lost because Tone needed a game changer but didn’t get it. He got shouty and desperate, quite the turn off.

This morning both ABCs AM and 7s Sunrise said Julia clearly won: momentum to Julia.

NO Darwin, she provided 'responses' NOT 'answers'. There is a HUGE difference sunshine.

FFS.

3 media organisation said that Jullia won the town hall meeting not 1 media organisation gave to Abbott and you still try to put spin on it that it went Abbott's way.

Julia clearly won, the exit poll showed that, less abstentions than at Rooty Hill too. the point is, Tone needed this to be a game changer: it wasn’t.

Undecideds will keep breaking to the incumbent, Labor.

Wonder if desperate Tone now calls for a debate on the economy? LOL!

Heh, Tone DID lose last night:

Betfair and Centrebet both show Labor’s odd narrowing a bit, the Lib’s widening. $1.27ALP, $3.75Lib.

Gillard won, 52.5 to 47.5 on the votes.

However, out of the 200 in attentance, it was actually
Gillard - 41.50
Abbott - 37.50
Undecided - 21.00

Who gets the other 21%, please dont say Bob Brown.

Apparently, Abbott is going on a manic media marathon in the next day and a half...

His minders have been unable to keep him caged and keep the Party out of electoral harm's way...

Beware, rabid attack dog Abbott is unleashed, unmuzzled and on the loose...

That said, from what I saw on the news this morning, he looks and sounds tired already - so be prepared for lots of unthinking mouthing off...

Indeed - Abbott is predictably erratic!

He is delusional, if he thinks that it is statesmanlike to go manic!

In fact, he is Bi-polar - I'd be surprised if he gets through the next 36-odd hours without a major stuff-up (perhaps even a pathetic pre-emptive admission of defeat!?) - either way, I have no doubts that his next depressive phase ain't gonna be pretty...

When you're up against an advertising blitz paid for by the tax payer up to the ALP campaign launch, and union fear mongering still on workchoices, and history of first term governments, its was and is always going to be an uphill battle.

With that said, if the ALP only win by the predicted four seat majority, I wouldnt be claiming that as an ALP endorsement.

The reality is in December the Libs were in the political wilderness, I think many were predicting for 10 years.  Abbott at least gave them a shot, and I think that is what annoys you the most.
