Title: Coalition: $420m assistance for mining industry
Post by buzzanddidj on Aug 14th, 2010 at 11:58am
The Federal Opposition is promising to spend nearly $420 million to support mining exploration and promote research into clean coal technologies.

It says most of the money will come from redirecting money from the Labor Government's carbon capture and storage program.

Opposition resources spokesman Ian Macfarlane says the Coalition's policy has a broad focus, including investment in biochar, biofuels and clean coal.

"What this Coalition is doing, if we're in Government, is to offer opportunities to spread that risk," he said.

"So whilst the Labor Party is completely captured on coal and carbon geo-sequestration, we're saying there are other ways that we can do this."

Oh but I forgot the libbos don't believe in manufacturing anything. That's for other countries to do :(

Mining companies are more than capable of funding their own exploration work. There are more than enough economic mechanisms in place to ensure they reap the rewards for their efforts.

I suppose it's only fair
Given the amounts poured into anti Labor Party television campaigns, why SHOULDN'T they be re-imbursed by a Coalition government - courtesy of the tax-payer ?

You know this policy of Abbotts alone is a double tax on the people.

Firstly ,now the people will have to pay tax for  the money that the mining tax could have covered.  As well as another tax to fund the mining assistance program..
And they say under labor we will be worse of ..  I cant believe that rant.

"Clean Coal", is a little bit like "compassionate, thinking, Liberal voter"
As they are both oxymorons, although you could probably just drop the oxy off the Libs. ;).

Are you sure this isn't a gee up from the Chaser boys?
Surely this cant be real.
Looks like Clive and Ziggy really did buy the Liberal Party, then again they say they are the party small business/free enterprise so I suppose it was only time before someone with enough money came along.

While they're at it they should throw some money at the banks, they're doing it tough, the capitalists have to stick together.

Perhaps it is to try to redress some of the ills the GALP have delivered to us?

Under the GALP there has been an unprecedented sell off of mines, mining companies and infrastructure development to the Chinese government.

If we can get local miners to develop materials rather than just sell the farm to foreign governments some of the money may stay here?

Yes, the GALP have certainly made the banks very, very profitable haven't they.

And delivered them the vast bulk of customers.

Whatever happened to the mortgage competition the coalition left us?

As the Libs delivered better health outcomes, funding for tertiary education into the future, more jobs, better wages and greater competition between banks you may want to reconsider your post.

Please name the Australian Government owned mines sold to China.
You cant can you
2 reasons
1) no mines are owned by the Australian Government
2) see 1 & therefore they cannot sell any
Private enterprise has sold the mines to China & if Labor tried to stop it you'd be howling government interference,COMMUNISM etc etc.
Your HYPOCRISY is breath taking, stick with dog whistles.

Oh & BTW the development of materials is called MANUFACTURING something both Liberal & Labor governments have watched die.
Again the HYPOCRISY at laying the blame at just 1 party shows how one eyed your thinking is.
Does a parrot live on your shoulder me'hearty??? :D

Have you heard of the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB)?

In order for foreigners to purchase property an application must be lodged with the FIRB.

You will note I did not say that the Australian Government sold a mine, and once you read my post again (possibly for the first time) you will see I actually said "there has been an unprecedented sell off of mines, mining companies and infrastructure development to the Chinese government".

The government (via the FIRB) determines what is or is not sold, and major decisions are generally escalated all the way to the minister responsible.

While the coalition rejected previous bids for such holdings on the basis that the best interests of the nation are not served  by foreign governments owning Australia's mines, the GALP had no such reservations and for the first time in Australia's history a foreign government controlled mines in Australia.

Quote:
Felix Resources takeover given nod

THE Rudd Government has approved China's biggest-ever takeover in Australia's mining sector, Yanzhou Coal's $3.3 billion bid for Queensland's Felix Resources, subject to a long list of conditions.

"It represents the first time a Chinese state-owned enterprise operating in Australia will list on our stock exchange.

This is the GALP you defend.  They sold Australia by the tonne while you denied it was happening.
