Title: Has the recession already started in Australia ? Post by thelastnail on Aug 5th, 2010 at 2:25pm
If you read the media and believe the ABS stats on unemployment you'd think that the streets were still paved with gold !!
Talk to retailers and other small business owners and you get a grim picture. Money is tight and people just aint spending probably because they are maxed out on debt wondering where the next dollar is coming from to pay off their mortgage. Are we in a two speed economy which is hiding the true nature of the economy and is the media purposely hiding the reality of the situation just because they can't afford to lose their major advertising sponsors ? |

================== Yep, I was listening again to Peter Martin yesterday arvo on the ABC Radio. He said that this is where the mining tax would and could SPREAD the wealth through the two speed economy.. But the liberals dont want to spread the wealth. They like the high wealth class distinction thats being created... |

I believe that the statistics we get from the ABS are what the government want us to get. they just don't ring true with the real world, the community.
I wonder why I hear of more people losing jobs and businesses shutting up shop or struggling to keep their business going, then on the other hand, I hear of all these jobs that got created. I'd like to know where because I haven't heard of anyone getting one. There's the REAL WORLD, and there's the FAKE WORLD that the government wants to feed us. |

Here is some data on where the money is:
There are currently some 423,000 DIY funds with 806, 500 members. The average funds have $947,000 in assets. The ABS reported that in mid-2007 the superannuation funds for Australian workers held $23,698 in assets and the median balance for workers between the ages of 55 and 64 was $71,731. This shows, how the wealth is distributed. At least half the DIY funds owners of the assets do not pay any tax, despite annual incomes of often more $110,00 per annum if their super fund is a so-called taxed fund and in retirement phase and in most cases will receive a cheque for the dividend imputastion from the government, if they hold shares in their funds. The great super fraud is well alive and running |

The economy is OK. People just aren't wasting their money on crap. Hence the trinket sellers doing it tough.

This is America. We are not immune to such problems if the government doesn't take some immediate and serious action in providing affordable housing.
