Title: Gender and politics Post by mellie on Aug 1st, 2010 at 11:50am Do you want to know what really annoys me? When we have people running around writing headlines like "Is Australia Man enough for a female PM" .... I don't think it's a question of our being man enough, or even gender really, though because it's a rather dull campaign, the media are willing to write about anything, be it her earlobes, her wrist watch and why? Because she's the new kid on the block, and entered the game rather awkwardly, (knifing Rudd). So to all those burning bras, crawl back into the 70's and stop playing the gender-card, because quite frankly we are over it. This is why most politicians don't normally sexualise themselves during campaigns with sensual images of themselves in magazines like the Woman's Weekly, and this is not the first time Julia has attempted to soften her persona by means of a make-over. She's trying to use her gender as a means of obtaining under-dog status, this is why she's flaunted it, she wants us to ridicule her. Lets keep it real guys, lets not turn our politicians into celebrities. Why is Julia losing popularity? Because if the individuals own cabinet doesn't want/trust them, then why should we? So enough with the gender mind-games, as this is just an excuse. Traditionally, we have always ridiculed our politicians, and Tony and Julia are of no exception. http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/politics/is-australia-man-enough-to-have-a-woman-as-pm-20100731-110il.html |

Sorry about the delay with the image, for some strange reason the original news link to the image wouldn't work here, so I had to convert it.

What is this crap? This isnt news, or policy or anything of substance.
Its crap like this that sees moderators 'over moderate' out of frustration. |

FFS, The Great Big New Tax On Everything is a cynical and dishonest political catchphrase - one which is being spun ad nauseum ad infinitum by an opposition party... If I am wrong, then you can try to break it down and illustrate the real-world implications for the electorate - with particular emphasis on the meaning of the word 'Everything' - ta! |

This is a relevant news item. When there is no sensible argument to an accusation, a common " ;Dtactic" is to shoot the messenger.
