Title: Nemesis. American Introspection. Post by helian on Jan 18th, 2010 at 8:02am
In a speech that owes its temper more to Bukowski than an Obama, its content to Chalmers Johnson than a Reagan, Ron Paul wonders aloud whether only another revolution will save America from its nemesis.

A bit too much sensationalism, but I would have to agree with what he's saying. Hear hear!

Yes, somewhat apocalyptic... If you've read Chalmers Johnson's "Nemesis : The Last Days Of The American Republic" (which I'm certain Ron Paul has) and heard Bukowski's recital of his poem "dinosauria, we (Born Into This)" ... Ron Paul's speech reads and sounds almost like an amalgam of the two. Bukowski, Johnson and Paul... American prophets? |

yes, the mighty US is in trouble.
The only thing stopping Aussie from being exactly the same is our resources. That's all. If the US comes apart, it will be to the detriment of us all. America has given the world more than most other nations in the history The problem was not due to rampant capitalism. it was leftard actions and lack of genuine capitalism that was any problem. |

[21] And lo it came to pass that the mindless memes didst make of the cockroaches, hosts. [22] And verily after the days of Armageddon, did they inherit the earth. [23] And the lord saw that it was good, for the memes, being the scions of ignorance, did afford and comfort the cockroaches with their certainty. |

It's true. Ignorance breeds certainty... And the more profound the ignorance, the more simplistic the certainty.

Ahhh, if only Obama had delivered that speech. If only Obama was a republican candidate.
It's such a pity that Ron Paul's version of honest capitalism didn't quite gain enough support. Now there's a man that you could trust. |

If I remember I think Chalmers was predicting the decline of democracy (many arguments suggest this has already happened) into right wing totalitarianism and isolationism. I have yet to read this book but remember vaugely a Radio Nat/ABC interview with him.
Rather than tear itself apart, it will pull in tighter but in a very detrimental way..please correct me if I am wrong. |

Reminds me of the two great quotes by Ike
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. and Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. Should have been a Democrate. :) But I still like him. |

No, but isn't that exactly what critics accuse the independent US Federal Reserve of doing regardless of party colour? Greenspan and Benanke in their turn were endorsed as its chair by both sides of politics. In fact Time Magazine declared Benanke its 'Man of the Year'. |

Yes, Johnson suggests that the US will become more belligerent and totalitarian as external and internal pressure on its crypto-empire increases. He suggests that, as with others before it, that the US will have to choose between democracy or empire... It can't have both. |
