Mr. Pipes... Over the past few decades, expectation of the Mahdi has spilled over into Sunni doctrine. The Shi'ites believe him to be the returning 12th Imam, the Sunnis think he will be a restorer of the Caliphate. But both believe he will lead an army which will kill all the infidel Westerners, will convert the pliant Westerners, and will govern the world in a shar'ia utopia for an era before Allah wraps things up on Judgment Day.

The Muslim world has been _deluged_ in recent years with books, films, sermons, etc. teaching how the Dajjal is an allegory for Western Civilization -- and that soon it will be destroyed by the Mahdi, even though he will be outmanned and outgunned. They have been given "infallible proofs" from the hadith that the Muslims are _guaranteed_ victory over the West.

If the world is coming to an end, why not strap on a dynamite belt and walk into a restaurant? Or fly a jet liner into a skyscraper?

because reportedly there are many who do think just that.

Terrorism isn't even mentioned... except in the form of War.  Until the last sentence which seems a bit out of place to me.

Hopefully no Muslims would want a war. After all, isn't Islam a religion of peace?

First of all they dont have the guts to fight a war, they use cowardly hit and run tactics like a six year old boy hitting a 5 year old girl in a primary school playground then running to a teacher claiming she started it.

Second, Islam is the religion of oppression and barbaric violence not peace.
The muslim visitors of our planet should be happy that of late the west has been quite docile towards them due to the weak leaders of our age. Otherwise, you would face Total Annihilation.
