Title: Is Satan winning?
Post by easel on Aug 8th, 2008 at 4:57pm
I just had an idea whilst listening to 'Stairway to Heaven' backwards.

What if, the God we imagine as good, is actually Satan and we have been severely deceived by Satan who has falsely represented itself as God?

For example, by masquerading as good with such things as no killing, no stealing etc etc, Satan has tried to convince us that he is good and holy and God, yet he severely restricts us in what we are allowed to do, with regards to dietary restrictions, the restriction of simple pleasure (sex and masturbation), alcohol, etc etc.'

And then Satan told us (whilst pretending to be God) that all the things we want to do, even they harm no one, are bad, and we will suffer eternal damnation for these acts, and then pretended to be good with the whole no killing and stealing part.

So, if you catch my drift, perhaps Satan has deceived us in to believing he is God, and that God is Satan.

It might make some sense, if this 'Satan' (God) wants to allow us to do what we feel is nice and fine so long as it hurts no others, and the true God's intentions have been corrupted.

Discuss.

You sound like a satanist.

Definately not true. I despise evil.

I was just thinking that being good to others and to yourself and harming no one is a good way to live, and possibly what God would have intended for us, but Satan deceived us in to thinking he was God and appeared to some people disguised as God and essentially told us we are not allowed to enjoy ourselves.

Satanists aren't evil, just hedonists.

The Roman and Greek gods did enjoy a game or two at the expense of mortals. Trickery and favourtism were definitely an option in their gameship.

Generally, there are 2 types of satanism or satanist - LaVeyan Satanism or Theistic Satanism.

LaVeyan Satanists follow Anton LaVey's interpretation of Alister Crowley's Left Hand Path - Do what thou wilt shall be the whole law. This is not a religion os a deity but of individualism where Satan is used as a concept of human nature.

LaVeyan Satanism link

Thiestic satanism is the belief that Satan is an actual deity. Animal sacrifices (although a rarity now), black masses, desecration of or sexual acts using Christian relics etc are usually attributed to this group. They worship and pray to the devil and other demons. They believe in a hierachy of devils, demons and sub-demons. Names suach as Asmodeus, Beelbezub, Baphomet, Belial etc are names they revere.

I find it interesting that the political left (yes I use the term loosely), which is a historical champion of personal freedom, hedonism, the rejection of conservative religious values etc, is now seeing the pursuit of pleasure and material wealth as a fundamental problem in western society, attributing it as a cause both to environmental destruction and a lack of communal spirit, in whatever form it may take.

Yes FD that is true.  It's because the political right have lost their way and allowed consumerism to become their God without giving any thought to the consequences.

Hillsong is a good example.  They pray for wealth - because if they love God they will become rich.

But I can see your point.  Many from the left are beginning to sound like the old Methodists - climate change could mean fire and brimstone.  Just a thought.

And what is good, Phaedrus, and what is not good - need we ask anyone to tell us these things?

Plenty of hedonistic people in the world FD..but I think God sees hedonism as evil doesnt he- Im not a chrsitian in the strict sense so excuse my ignorance?

I think if you just live a good life ,respect your fellow human..then wether he be God or Satan should not matter.

What should really matteris that the things we do we do because we really want to be good pple...not because we are trying to win a favour for ourselves by way of attaining everlasting life?

If this is your first time back Sprint..good to see you   ;)

Im hoping for all those pple out there who have been devoting their lives to their perceived God that this can't be.

Never listened to Stairway to Heaven backwards but I must put that on my list.

Love that song..the Led Zepplin version of course.(not the Rolf Harris  :-/)

Is that saying that satanists are hedonists, or hedonists are satanists, or weren't you even thinking at the time?
Maybe the devil made you do it. ::)

You maintain a pedantic, and childishly simple interpretation of philosophical empiricals that do not actually exist, they all overlap and interact, like converging ripples on a lake.
The simplicity with which a philosophy can be interpreted is usually limited to the simplicity of the person doing the interpretation.

That's a very simplistic way to describe a simple man, Mozz. And to put it simply, oh snap!

It's an interesting listen - I tried it when I was a teen - it was a must-do for every long haired kid back then. Lol.

What's wrong with Rolf's version? I thought that it was good and was surprised that it wasn't nominated for an ARIA.

Show me any real self proclaimed satanist, and I'll show you a glorified hedonist trying to wind people up and make his philosophy appear innocuous at the same time.

Lol. Then again, the second coming of the Messiah surely must be now. This is evident with the axing of Big Brother.
