hi malik, just thought of something.......do u realise with all the attention sprintcyclist is giving to Islam, his actually doing u a favour?

by talking about Islam, even in a negative way, he is developing discussion about Islam with ppl who otherwise would never have heard of it.

so based on this, one of 2 things will happen......either:

1. ppl will take sprintcyclist's views on Islam, and hate Islam as much as he does

or

2. ppl will take sprintcyclist's view with a grain of salt and do their own research.....and maybe develop a more positive view when they look at Islam more objectively.

the reason i'm saying this is because there was this one time, i was listening to a radio show where the presenter was full ripping into Islam and how the muslims are taking over (i can't remember who it was, sorry).

but anyway, a lady called into the show and asked "what is islam? what's their holy book?"......and this anti-islam presenter said "their holy book is the Koran, it's avaliable at any bookshop, i suggest u buy it and have a read".

so this anti-islam presenter was advertising the Koran and encouraging ppl to read it.......now, obviously he thinks that once she reads it she will see it as violent/intolerant/etc - but what if she reads it and likes it? and maybe even becomes muslim? which only creates more muslims.

in short, using marketing terms, he advertised for the product he was lobbying against.

Look, I agree to an extent GSS, no doubt in some ways it's beneficial.

However, I think there is a line that needs to be drawn on the forums. It just becomes too much when Sprint repeats the same garbage over and over and over again even when it's clarified for him and he knows the truth of the matter, he still hides it and goes on and on.

The fact is that he applies such standards of judgement in his judging of Islam that his own religion could not hold up against it.

He needs to stop trying to incite hate on the forums.. That's all I want.. I don't care if he disagrees with Islam or he asks questions or if he is critical.. But going to the point of deliberately misleading people and also insulting my faith is not appropriate, as it's not appropriate to insult anyone's faith either.

Plus he said that I tacitly support wahabi terrorism and also tries to equate all Muslims to extremists and terrorist..

refer to the example i put in my 2nd post in this thread.

if someone takes an interest in islam based on discussion with sprintcyclist, then i say let him continue. his doing u a favour.

and i know he repeats the same thing over and over, which also works in ur favour because ppl can see through his deception.....okay, he might not understand what ur saying but i can guarantee you, any independent 3rd party looking at the discussion between u and sprintcyclist would most likely agree with you.

let him do what he likes, he thinks his helping ppl by showing them how evil islam is, but he could very well do the opposite by making ppl interested in islam more......which can create more muslims in the future.

That's a pretty fuzzy line you are trying to draw there Malik. Basically you think he should be able to say these things, but he has to stop when it starts to bother you.

I find that concept rather odd.

Islam, like all religions, should be as impactful on our lives as any other fairy story, that is to say not at all.

most people only know that Islam is a religion........but not know the actual details of the religion, such as their main beliefs.

discussions around what muslims actually believe may generate interest and ppl may look into it further.

I agree with you there GSS. I have found out a lot I didn't know about Islam since Malik and Abu joined up.

Perhaps, he could have phrased it a little better but we understood what he meant so we'll forgive him.

Sure, everyone has heard of Islam and Muslim (unless they've just been cryogenically defrosted). However, many infidels have never had any contact with one, let along spend the time to understand the subtleties and nuances of their culture and their interpretation of world events.

It has been an good education (once you've sieved through all the crap) since Malik and Abu joined up.

yeah, that's what i meant.......i didn't literally mean "never heard of Islam", but rather "didn't know much about it".
