Is there selective posting at these sites deepthought - or are they just both so full of bugs, that you can't post?

There is NO moderation, at all, as far as I know.  Perhaps you are getting impatient in your old age?  :D  I've had no trouble, although sometimes it is a bit "slow".

No moderation at all.  Zip, zilch, nil, none.  Nothing at all has been moderated.  The PA forum has a couple of software bugs an update will fix but the slowness issue appears to be with the (free) hosts servers (particularly the DNS).

I installed the software on both and liberty is the latest version but PA is an old version of phpbb for nostalgia.

The posting doesn't work for me on PA and Liberty just cuts out consistently.

It doesn't matter - PA holds no interest for me - although the format is better than Liberty.

I haven't had a problem with Liberty and joined PA but haven't had anything to say.  Sounds like an Old Boys Club to me.  :D

Maybe neither are for you, that's OK, I don't mind. liberty has just celebrated its one month birthday and PA is less than a week old so I'm pretty happy with patronage to date.  Give them a few months and they will be bursting with interest.  At least I will be posting anyway.

I don't have a problem with Liberty apart from the fact, that it's become too difficult to post.  The site cuts out and I can't get back onto it to log out.  I can even shut down my computer and find that when it's turned on again - I'm still logged on, which is a new experience.

Perhaps it's my computer, but I haven't had this trouble with any other sites or forums.

Why do you want to log out every time? I don't bother, unless I'm on a public PC. It's a pain.

Title: Re: Heavy Moderation on DT's Liberty & PA?

If a site gives you an option - you should be able to use it.  I log in there each time, so of course I want to log out.   Although Ozpolitics doesn't give you an easy option - it hasn't affected any of the other sites I use so far.

Unfortunately Liberty does, so I need to log out, but because the site cuts out and I can't get back onto it - I stay connected and I don't want that.

You mean this site? Why is it hard?

Sorry FD - I've suddenly realised there is no difficulty - it's just me not paying attention to all the features on your site.

I have no problem other than from time to time the DNS seems to be taking its time - but I can wait a few seconds if that's what it takes.  It is intermittent though and often operates perfectly so I don't know what your problem can be related to.  No one else has mentioned it, just you.

You don't need to log out if you don't want to.  The system has a timed log out anyway.  If you don't refresh or have any activity within sixty minutes the site logs you out automatically.

Like I said though if it's too hard and causes you to post here to complain about my site don't post there.  I don't mind.  It's preferable you stay away to avoid flooding freediver's sites with issues he has no interest in and suggesting my forums are moderated when there has been no moderation at all to date.

Deepthought I get the same problem on your liberty forum. I'd guess about one in five times I can't get through. Yes it is intermittent - it doesn't seem to drop out for long periods. If you can be bothered, there are plenty of free forum sites that don't have these issues.

I migrated from a free forum after just a couple of days.  Too many limitations too numerous to mention.  I need to get a commercially hosted site but I've been too busy, too lazy, too skungy.  Or all of the above.

I'll get around to it but it isn't really happening to me though so it's only a problem for you dudes.

But there's no moderation, mantra may think it's the Chinese again.

I could host or set something up for you, like I did with PA. Of course, there would be the risk that too many sites go down at once whenever the server crashes.

No, it's OK but thanks anyway.  It's really not the cash as a host can be found for less than $100 a year and I spend that amount for lunch every day.

;)

I just haven't got around to it.  I will do it and then maybe add quite a bit to it as I go.  A website gives me the freedom to start selling merchandise like liberty T Shirts or PA cobwebs.

I actually have couple of ideas to expand the empire but I have been a bit lazy lately.

Wow, do you think that you will be able to afford to have all those t-shirts printed up DT? I mean there must be 13 members by now.

Seeing as you've occasionally mentioned Liberty on this forum and you don't want to be PM'd and there's difficulty getting onto Liberty - I didn't think this would upset FD too much.  When I did mention this problem on Liberty, you didn't give an explanation.  Oceans said the same and FD has now as well.

If you want to expand your forum, perhaps it would be a good idea not to tell potential posters that it's preferable for them to stay away.  An explanation as to why these problems occurred could have been given fairly quickly and nipped in the bud almost immediately - instead of waiting until Ozpolitics was "flooded" with this boring issue.

I have said it repeatedly here and there - it's a DNS issue.  And oceans problems are unrelated.  She kept forgetting her log in details and I had to keep re-setting her password for her.

I say to everyone that if it's not for you don't post.  The last thing I need is people choosing to be there, then complaining about the forum.  If it is not for you, I would rather you were happy elsewhere.  I live for fun.  If the forum never has more than one member, my life will be unchanged.  I would like people to post there, but my preference is they post about issues, not the forum's slowness.

So this is the forum owner's response - put up and shut up or leave.  Discuss anything as long as it isn't technical issues with the site.  What will be next?

If the site was only slow - there would be no complaint.  Today, surprisingly logging in and out went without any difficulty, but obviously there has been a misunderstanding.  I thought the Liberty moderation was unrestricted where anything could be discussed unreservedly without limitations.

The bits that may have been lost related to you asking me to repeat several thousand times (a small exaggeration) that your privacy was paramount, then didn't join anyway.

That I help with contributions to your board yet you don't join a fellow forum owners board (until your own crashed and you used it to advise people of the reason).

And I believe the point I also made was you insisted I remove any reference to my board in my signature while I willingly advertise your board in both forums of my board.

That sound about right mate?

And it can, but this is not liberty - this is Ozpolitic.  If a person joins liberty knowing the site has a DNS issue then complains about the DNS issue on another board (attributing it to imaginary moderation of their comments) then I wish them happiness elsewhere.  I don't find it agreeable for people to place themselves in a situation which makes them unhappy then to complain about their misery some other place.  I find that to be a most peculiar characteristic, somewhat masochistic actually.

What a strange statement - seeing as you have discussed Ozpolitics elsewhere and in a derogatory manner.

Liberty's motto should be "Do as I say - not as I do".

No - I don't keep copies of negative posts and I don't know whether I've been moderated at Liberty - that's why I asked you.  Some of my posts haven't got through.

What I do know is that a request has been made not to write posts with certain content.

I've already answered the copy and paste question - but you still haven't responded to the statement I made that posts of a certain content aren't to be posted?

This argument will go on and on DT - but if my posts aren't to your liking - I will refrain from posting at Liberty for the time being.  For future members, you should lay some ground rules so they understand they can post anything as long as you approve of it.

I have no objection to anything you post at liberty.  What have I said there that makes you think you can not post anything of interest to you?

There are no rules on posting and nothing has ever been moderated or removed.  I can not make it any plainer than that.  What rules do you suggest I write to carry that message that I have forgotten to include in the following statement which is the posted 'rules' at liberty.

Quote:
Welcome. There are no real rules to posting other than those you would normally apply to your own language - if you are a naturally abusive and intolerant person that is how you will post here regardless of any rules by the admin.

If you prefer to have civil communications then feel free to ignore those who don't respect that.

If sledging, flaming, trolling and stalking is your style then go nuts. But be prepared to meet other like minded individuals so don't whine when it happens to you.

Other than that, have a blast. I will.

Your suggestions to make it clearer to you?

Mantra,  I saw your last post on Liberty earlier.  What are you going on about?

Perhaps it is you who is paranoid ... worrying unnecessarily about  having to log in and out, etc.?  I log into Ozpolitics and don't log out, my name is still showing as online there after I browse elsewhere and come back.  However, should I want to post something, I have to log in again.  This is pretty normal with Forums. You aren't permanently logged in and even if you were, what do you think might happen?  The Forum Admin might be able to find out your IP address but that tells them nothing, just what ISP you use and probably what area you are in. So what?  Nobody can get your physical, home address, from an IP number.

Stop worrying.  ;)

IP's are logged with posts on most forums. Some people have a permanent IP so you can get that personal info directly. I think there are plenty of ways to get it indirectly. that's the risk you take when you post online.

I didn't complain about the slowness - I complained about other technical issues - as well as moderation, which you would assume a moderator might explain the reasons why in a calm and dispassionate manner and get it over and done with.  In fact I think you've virtually told me not to post at Liberty indirectly about 3 times in this thread.

I have actually said if you are unhappy posting there for whatever reason maybe it is not for you dude.  And your constant paranoid imaginings make me think you are unhappy posting there.

However what I have said is that if you are unhappy with the explanation given (several times now) then don't flood freediver's forum with your complaints.

I said, and I repeat, this is not liberty - this is Ozpolitic.  Talk about Ozpolitic here and liberty there.  However if your posts are just about the forum issues and you are aware of them then feel free to refrain from posting if it is just to whine.  It can't be any fun spending all your time online complaining about stuff you are already aware of.  Have fun online, don't destroy yourself over issues beyond your control.

Right here dude.  Where freediver has a right of reply.  Not 'elsewhere' as mantra claims.  It is against my ethicality to deny someone the right of reply.  Hence liberty.

Deepthought - you've made a mountain out of a molehill.  You've now become abusive because you can't respond rationally and you've said the same old stuff over and over again.

It's obvious that you can't manage the technical side of the forum - just admit it and get over it.

Abusive?  Please copy and paste that abuse.

I don't have any control over DNS servers, the host does.  I have to rely on their technical expertise.

To have a permanent IP addy you MUST be posting from your work station.  Then you would know what "company" the person is posting from and maybe track them down?

No thanks. I didn't say it was easy. It would take the dedication of a stalker.

It is NOT possible. Admit it.

Please reassure Mantra ...... she is paranoid you might have her phone number via the Forum.  ;D

Funny neferti - but I'm more worried about hackers.  Just being cautious.

You aren't permanently logged in and even if you were, what do you think might happen?  The Forum Admin might be able to find out your IP address but that tells them nothing, just what ISP you use and probably what area you are in. So what?  Nobody can get your physical, home address, from an IP number.

IP's are logged with posts on most forums. Some people have a permanent IP so you can get that personal info directly. I think there are plenty of ways to get it indirectly. that's the risk you take when you post online.

Goodness me. :)

To have a permanent IP addy you MUST be posting from your work station.  Then you would know what "company" the person is posting from and maybe track them down?

Challenge ..... PM me with where and who I am and my home address and phone number.  ::)

My IP is permanent, and I post from home.  The IP has been the same for several years.

Stay cool.  No hackers on Feediver's site or Deepthought's.  Nobody can find out anything about you from an IP address, except which ISP you use and (maybe) which area/state you live in.

Should you be posting from work, then you may have a problem.  Your ISP would probably let them know which company/department you work for.  ;D  Plus which Forums you use during work hours.  ::)

Rubbish.  You must be paying through the nose for that IP addy then.  Or have never logged off.  :D

I'm sure you mean your ISP has been the same for several years.

It is very, very rare to have a static IP for a number of reasons.  Not least of which is resourcing.  IP addresses are dynamic.

This IT poo runs me, big time.

Buggered if I know......but I do know that, for example......if, from home I posted as "Santa Clause" at DT's PA....and then posted as "Rudolph" at DT's Liberty, he would know that Santa and Rudolph are one and the same.

This can be true but only given a set of circumstances.

The IP address of every post is logged and is available to the forum owner.  This is to allow forum owners the ability to track spammers etc and/or ban certain IP addresses.

But if you shut down your computer or modem between postings you may be allocated a different IP (Internet Protocol) address by the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server at your ISP (Internet Service Provider).  Your IP address will be dynamic and may change between postings in that situation.

Got it?   ;)

Who does that?  I never 'shut down' the computer.

I think I will now.

I didn't say anyone does that - I said 'but if you (do)'.  Do read what I post.

But if you don't 'shut down' your computer between posts then that circumstance does not apply and the posts at two different forums would have the same IP address as the source.

However I strongly doubt your computer has been running continuously for years.  Even if it had been so and survived crashes, power outages and being moved from one place to another an ISP outage would possibly see you with a new IP address anyway.

ISPs have a range of IP addresses allocated to them.  If they have 50,000 IP addresses and 50,001 customers they have a problem unless they keep re-allocating upon demand.

Do you still have Windoze 95 on your 486 Aussie?
