Title: Love and Hate Post by mantra on Mar 12th, 2008 at 9:11pm
We hear so many cases about people murdering their partners or their children or both, yet these murderers loved their victims. Males seem to be the majority of offenders. What triggers these mood swings?
I've thought about wounding some people in my life - very briefly - during heated arguments, but refrained - in case I was the one who came off worse. Fortunately for me it's always worked the other way around as well. Has anyone ever been so aggravating that you've wanted to inflict some pain on them? Could be anyone, not necessarily a partner, but someone you're arguing with in a pub or a party, on a train or on the road? Even your children! |

I never let it get as far as 'aggravated'. I have an itchy trigger finger and I start shooting before I get too riled up. |

I've only ever wished someone to inflict pain upon themselves.
It makes me all gooey inside to think that the person has finally woken up to how annoying they really are and they are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice to better the human race. I'm far to happy-go-lucky to inflict pain on another human being- it's better that they are made to realise the pain and suffering they are inflicting 24/7 on the people around them. It's a tough job but someone has to do it. Kid's? Well I think it's better to smother them with love, hugs and affection.. and maybe a pillow at times. |

Hi mantra,
I think most of those cases are caused by the offender feeling powerless. Sure I've clipped a guy around the chin, think you mean a bit more than that though. |

I dont really hate pple as such..I can almost always rationalise anger toward almost anyone.
I tend to hate pple like John Howard, because he hurt my poor little lefttard heart with his lack of social conscience.[but I dont hate him now] I love family animals and Australia. [and weather] |

You really think so DT? And what about Johnnys failings? Do I hear you say "he has none"? I think God is supposed to be perfect. :-/ |

Hate is a useless emotion. It only brings us down - far better to turn negative emotions into positive emotions, if that's possible. Although loving our enemy is easier said than done.

Good points Oceans - I hold the same views. Just to add - now that Howard is no longer around - it's easy to let go of those feelings of "intense dislike". |

Good one - deepthought. I see you've found a way to deter people from the Relationships Forum. Obviously I hurt your sensibilities. If you're going to deliberately change my posts like that - I won't post anywhere your name appears.
That will be difficult though - seeing as 90% of the posts on Ozpolitics are yours. |

I don't have any sensibilities. I'm insensible. And I don't mind where you choose to post mantra - it's a free country and you're a free citizen. However before you complain about your post being added to I suggest you read the thread you're complaining about, for the first time. Comprehension is a wonderful thing and I have had to remind you on more than one occasion how to interpret quite simple statements. The following seems pretty straightforward to me. deepthought wrote on Mar 13th, 2008 at 8:22pm:
What is it about that that makes it hard to understand? |

She's from the left- They want to join in on society but insist that they rules are changed halfway through to suit themselves despite not actually having anything to do with the original concept.
It's like coming uninvited (although welcome) to a fancy dress party and then complaining that the food is bad and the theme should be 'this' instead of 'that' ::) |

Decency? Why would you post in a thread which says if you don't use the word 'fart' I will add it for you, then complain when I add it for you? Are you the type who moves under a flight path near an airport then complains about the aircraft noise? You are sounding like that type. I have no intention of deleting anything from the thread. I believe in free speech. If the word 'fart' is so offensive to you that you must spit the dummy and leave, then farewell to you mantra. I feel sure there may be a forum for narrow minded puritans out there. I am not a member of the Greens who feels obliged to obey the narrow minded. I believe in freedom of expression which is why I voted Liberal. We believe in freedoms. If you don't want the word 'fart' added to your post then have the good grace to remain out of the thread. After all you did say you found it crass, can you explain why you found yourself posting there? It appears you have deliberately posted there so you can then complain about the inevitable outcome of posting there. While that may positively establish your credentials as a leftoid, it doesn't indicate anything positive about your obviously manipulative intent . . . . |

Why are you complaining in a different thread about a post you made in another thread that was started in light hearted fun with the rules clearly stated?
You can always go back and modify your post yourself instead of wailing about it like a spoilt child who failed to read the rules. The low standards happen when certain posters fail to comprehend and then spend the majority of their time pi55ing and moaning how terrible things are when they themselves are to blame |
