Title: Domestic Violence
Post by oceansblue on Sep 20th, 2007 at 7:17pm
What do we know about domestic violence?

It is generally regarded that this type of violence is mostly suffered by women as we are the physically weaker  sex and yes mostly it is . It is known that men also suffer this problem too.

What are the long term effects of domestic violence in families and how do these problems manifest themselves?

In the media now is a case of a small 3 yr old girl child known as" Pumpkin" (the media has dubbed her).

In her family domestic violence was a common occurence. Now Pumpkins mother has been found dead in the boot of her car outside the family home in Wellington NZ.

She was abandonded by her father at a Melbourne train station last Staurday as her father fled to the US presumably after murdering her mother.

This is the escalating and tragic upshot of domestic violence.

How do you see domestic violence and how are those (children etc) effected by it go on to live normal healthy lives?

That's a really good topic you have raised oceans.
really good.

I'ld greatly prefer it if you deleted the piccies of and references to pumpkin.
That is a single case that brings current emotion into a really good topic.
When domestic violence is already caused by emotion.

Domestic violence is classically and traditionally seen as a man physically beating a woman.
Domestic violence and male suicides are closely related.
There is much more to it than pumpkin, or a man beating a woman.

thanks oceans.

Domestic violence is much wider than a husband physically hitting his wife. This is the classic scenario.
Domestic violence is not just physical. It can be verbal, emotional, financial, social, religious.

A wife at a bbq who publically berates her husband is committing verbal/social domestic violence.
A spouse who "gives" the other spouse an allowance is committing financial domestic violence.

men often committ suicide after years of verbal/social abuse.
They stay in that abusive relationship to try to "keep their marriage whole."
When she leaves , takes all his self esteem, money, social contacts, he suicides.

very true-

Domestic violence takes many different forms most of which youve outlined.Sometimes the most effected are the children who dont uinderstand what they re seeing . I find that to be a very disturbing aspect of domestic violence.

Ill post more on this one tomorrow- getting a bit tired.
