Title: Cages on wheels
Post by Aussie Nationalist on Aug 16th, 2007 at 12:17am
Some buses have been converted into prisons on wheels for the APEC summit, to arrest Scummy Reds when they do their violent protests and war against the police.

I don't think they're going to be able to get anywhere near the summit. Aren't they putting up cement barricades or something everywhere?

They'll be at the barricades 'protesting' then. The cops will be guarding these barricades therefore they will start their war with the police as usual. throwing marbles under horses and wearing disguises and acting like children with hit and run tactics.

The one at townhall is supposed to be a peaceful protest.  This whole APEC summit is on the nose.  From the Tuesday to the following Monday they will be going Kms into the suburbs to make them clearways.

Why does a whole city have to close down because a few leaders want to have a meeting to talk about climate change - when we know this means nuclear power.

This is another reason why Howard has to go - he doesn't care about the thousands of small businesses who won't get custom or deliveries, or the workers losing a days pay or more - not to mention the total inconvenience, chaos and expense.

We all have to do our bit towards international cooperation. That includes hosting meetings between leaders occasionally. They have a lot of issues to work through before they will do anything about climate change.

I now disagree with Nuclear power. We should stick to Coal.

Believe it Mantra, Rudd would do the same thing.

Actually AusNat, Rudd would probably hold it in Canberra.

Cost, for starters.

It would be cheaper in Canberra surely.

Besides - who's footing the bill for this?  Does NSW have to cover the millions it's going to cost in security, fencing, catering, closing down roads - lost revenue from businesses affected?

I agree Aussie Nat - about Nuclear Power - it's safer to stick to coal until something better becomes commercially viable.

It would cost a hell of alot less in canberra. Also, it would be less likely that as many Scummy Reds would turn up there as they couldnt afford the travel. (centrelink dosent pay too much,Drugs are expensive).

It would be great if they could invent something which Neutralises Radioactive materials. Then id be all for Nuclear power.

Title: High fences in central Sydney for APEC
Post by freediver on Aug 16th, 2007 at 5:43pm
The cost of airfairs normally makes main hubs like Sydney and Melbourne cheaper.

http://www.smh.com.au/news/National/High-fences-in-central-Sydney-for-APEC/2007/08/16/1186857644396.html

Fences almost three metres high and stretching for 5km will secure a restricted zone, including the Sydney Opera House and the northern CBD, during next month's APEC summit.

NSW Deputy Premier John Watkins confirmed the APEC-related disruptions would now last for ten days, with security and traffic management arrangements brought forward because of the early arrival of US President George W Bush.

I thought they were all flying out in their own private jets.  They would have to because they're bringing their armoured limousines and about 40,000 staff to cater for and protect Bush.

I doubt very much they will be discussing renewable energy to battle climate change - more likely what suburbs in NSW would be most suitable for reactors and what other countries can they sell uranium to that aren't signatories to the NPT.

In fact I think Howard mentioned today that Ryde would be a suitable place for a nuclear reactor - the residents will be pleased to hear that.

Title: More APEC restrictions for Sydney

http://www.smh.com.au/news/National/More-APEC-restrictions-for-Sydney/2007/08/24/1187462495503.html

Hundreds of arrests have been predicted at next month's APEC summit in Sydney, as authorities extended restricted zones in the city to as far as Bondi beach.

The commonwealth has demanded a minimum of 500 jail beds be set aside for possible arrests during next month's summit of world leaders, which is expected to attract major protests.

To make room, prisoners serving periodic or weekend detention will be given a night off from jail during the APEC leaders meeting on September 8 and 9, the NSW government and NSW Police Force said.

Police backed on photo ban of APEC fence

http://www.smh.com.au/news/National/Police-backed-on-photo-ban-of-APEC-fence/2007/09/03/1188671832068.html

Requiring tourists to delete happy snaps of Sydney's APEC security fence may be "over the top" but it is necessary, NSW Transport Minister John Watkins says.

He was responding to news reports that three German tourists were asked by police to delete digital photographs of the newly built fence, which stretches five kilometres through Sydney's CBD.

Meanwhile, the Communist Party of Australia (CPA) says the APEC security fence that stretches through Sydney's CBD is a "wall of shame" and undemocratic.

Police threatening to stop us: Greens

http://www.smh.com.au/news/National/Police-threatening-to-stop-us-Greens/2007/09/04/1188783231020.html

The NSW Greens say police have threatened legal action to prevent them holding a media conference in Sydney that was to have featured 21 mock world leaders dressed as lifesavers.

Greens MP Sylvia Hale said media had been invited to a press conference in Sydney's Martin Place at 11am on Friday, at which she and Greens senator Kerry Nettle were to speak on the need for APEC leaders to address climate change.

But Ms Hale said she was served with a letter from NSW Police general counsel Michael Antrum, threatening legal action if she did not agree to move the media conference from Martin Place.

Ms Hale said the reaction was "excessive and beyond the scope and intent of the extra powers" granted to police by parliament.

"Nowhere in the APEC (Police Powers) Act does it state that the making of political statements is banned in the APEC declared area, yet that is what the police are trying to do," Ms Hale said.

Activists gather for APEC court ruling

http://www.smh.com.au/news/National/Activists-gather-for-APEC-court-ruling/2007/09/05/1188783270784.html

About 30 activists have gathered outside the NSW Supreme Court ahead of a challenge to the planned route of the weekend's APEC protest march.

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione has brought Stop Bush Coalition spokesman Alex Bainbridge to court seeking a court order banning Saturday's marchers from walking through Martin Place.

The US Consulate, a handful of major banks and some of the city's top-end hotels are in the plaza, which is in a restricted police zone for the APEC Summit.

Title: Chaser team escape trial over bin Laden prank

Australian TV comics escape trial over bin Laden prank

http://news.smh.com.au/australian-tv-comics-escape-trial-over-bin-laden-prank/20080428-2955.html

Australian television comics who breached security at a global summit by posing as part of a Canadian motorcade carrying an Osama bin Laden look-alike Monday had all charges against them dropped.

The team from The Chaser's War on Everything show came within metres of US President George W. Bush's hotel in September after their fake three-car convoy was waved through security checkpoints.

They were stopped only after one of the comedians from the show emerged from a car dressed as fugitive alleged terror mastermind bin Laden.

The prank made international headlines during the unprecedented security lockdown in Sydney for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit and proved a ratings winner for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Yeah, they are pretty good.  Their "Bin Laden" tape after the charges were dropped was classic.

Yeah. Great entertainment.

I watched it.

I know why a sniper did not take him/them out.

But, Chaser has no idea why.

Let's assume there was glitch in the discretion system, and a designated sniper was at large and took a shot.....and killed the media wanker.

That'd be funny, yes?

So they were detected, but not stopped? What if Osama bin Laden dressed up as Osama bin Laden and wandered in in full daylight to blow up a hotel or something? You don't have to kill people tos top them.

It's all conjecture FD.....but these idiots could have been taken out by security forces.

They can thank decisions made at some level.

At that level, some dude said, "Nah, don't shoot..................yet."
