Title: Age Gap Relationships.
Post by oceansblue on Aug 9th, 2007 at 5:32pm
Can they work?

The program Age of Love was just recently aired in Australia..

It was a load of bunk but it has got me to thinking about age differences in relationshuips whereby the female is the older by more than 6-20 yrs plus.

Its occurring more and more.

What are pluses of such an arrangement and the minuses.?

I would say that the pluses would be obvious Oceans. :)

As far as negatives go - at a guess, a younger man can expect  more than an older woman could give him.  There's also the fact that as they both age - the woman will physically age at a much faster pace.

If the physical ageing isn't a problem - then the emotional problems can kick in.  As we get older, most women don't look for the thrills or the topsy turvy emotions that a younger person experiences and dealing with these could be quite exhausting.

I believe these relationships can be quite enduring, but it would certainly take a lot of work and patience from both parties and in some cases, the male may be looking for an extension of his mother, which could be difficult if there are children who are also competing for her attention.

In the short term - I would guess that these relationships can be exciting, stimulating, refreshing and fulfilling - but over a period of years, could become quite boring.

Better if both people are about the same age imho.

Men and women reach peak fertility about the same age.
Reach peak mentality about the same time.

We are pretty well matched, all things considered.  ;)

I always thought differently Sprint.. I thought men matured later than women and females reached sexual maturity much later than men...that men peaked in theyre 20s.?

But dont quote me of course.

I guess then it had better be that the male female concerned are  cereberally matched..nothing more boring than someone we dont gel with mentally.

Oceans, fertility peaking is different to sexual maturuty

Fertility peak about 16 - 18 years old, for both sexes.

I think she is talking about the ages when the highest sex drive operates. (Young for men, middleaged for women).

I am 5 years and a little older than my partner.  i don't think it would make any difference if i was 6 years older. But i do think it would  be vastly different if i was twenty years older.

Connie, prob with 10 % or so is insignificant.

10% seems to be an area of significance for most things

Yes i agree-the sexual peak for men is late teens to twenties for men..

Women its usually late twenties 30s and on..

Peak sexual  maturity and fertility are not necessarily exclusive, but in general its twenties and 30s for women, fertility I mean..this does somewhat coincide with theyre sexual peak and it makes sense since both are generated by successful hormone production.

"which is noice I feel"

oceans - sexual fertility is the ease of becoming pregnant, or making a woman pregnant.
The teens for men and women.

sexual peak maturity may mean the ability to stay hard for a long time,or have many orgasms for a woman or just be horny all the time. Different to fertility. A lot different.

Yes you have a point there.

And I do realize also that fertility and sexuality also go hand in hand..as the peak balance of hormones are required for both..not always, but a lot of the time.

Most women approaching menopause lose theyre desire for sex..the same time her fertility declines.

I'm 18 years older than my husband. We really get some strange looks when we're out and about, but I don't care. I bagged a hotty.

My father was 12 years older than mum.
He outlived her by 15 years.

My wife's father was 4 years younger than his wife
She has outlived him.

I married a girl 1 month younger.
My daughter is 3 years older than her fiancee.

My eldest daughter is 18 years younger than her husband.

Ages are all over the place, as long as they are happy, who cares.
