Title: Warnings
Post by sprintcyclist on Jul 1st, 2007 at 3:35am
Sometimes I feel we get warnings. We ignore them at our risk.
A few examples :
Years ago I jumped off a trampolene, using that method I used to use when cross country running and jumping over fences.
For some reason I got it wrong and fell down hard. I lay on the ground trying to work out what went wrong. No idea at alll. I realised I was lucky to not injure something.
About a few weeks later I jumped over a fence the same way. Fell down and broke my wrist.
Just before jumping I hesitated, then jumped !

A brother of mine and I discuss warnings we get when driving. A close call is telling us to slow down a bit. Just watch it a bit closer. leave more of a gap.

A mate of mine had a bad motorbike accident. He'll never be the same again.
A few weeks before it happened, he lost control of his car and drove right through a mob of kangaroos. A few of the bounced off his car. No damage was done, that was his warning though.
Unfortunately he did not realise it.

If a warning is given, just sit back and think about it for a wee time.
Maybe go a bit slower, don't do that again, go a different route, be aware of what occurred.

I kinda agree with this but i suspect you think a compassionate god is behind it. What warning was there of the great south east asian tsunami for all the individuals it took? Or to the Iraqis killed or maimed  by US bombs?

I agree with warnings.  Sometimes we need to slow down a little, think a bit and exercise caution.
There are often signs that we don't take much notice of and then later when an accident/incident occurs we wonder why we had been so blind

The waters receded.

On a slight tangent, I thought about that tsunami.
I was completely unaware a tsunami does that sort of thing. ie sometimes start by a huge outrush of water.  In all likelihood had I been there I would have ran into the area that was ocean like other people.

My thought was, if something really strange and unusual happens, run in the opposite direction. :-)

The water always recedes before a large wave, even when you're just standing in the surf. The faster the water recedes, the bigger the wave is going to be.

I was told about the tsunami thing in primary school. It must have happened before a lot of times. Apparently most tribal societies in the area did fine because that sort of thing is part of 'customary knowledge.'
