Title: Did moses live for over 200 years?
Post by DonaldTrump on Jun 13th, 2007 at 12:51am
It's interesting in genesis how almost all the people live to such old ages. From memory... I think one or two people were said to have lived for over 1000 years or so.

Impossible? According to some Christians I know... not really.  :P Hence, it's the bible and the bible is 100% accurate.  :)

As far as I'm concerned, since the 365 day calender only came into existence at the time of the Roman Empire, and genesis was written about 2000 years before that... I believe that a Jewish year must have been a lot shorter than that of a 365 year. For all we know... someone who lived for '1000' years could have only lived 40 years... as it is well-known that people (Such as the Egyptians) did not live to such an old age.

It can also be said that when the language of the bible changed... from Hebrew to Latin to Germanic to English... there could have been translating mistakes.

So what do you think? Did moses live till 200? Or was it just a huge error on the translators part?

apparently methusulah lived the longest. Over 900 years I think !
They might have had a shorter calender, did Julius caeser put in the month of july ?
Apparently the NIV bible is translated directly  from the earliest scriptures, so any translation error would not be a compounded one.
Would have to be a big compounded error to go from 40 to 900 years !

One guy I know said the genes were perfect originally, so people did not get cancer, flus etc etc etc.
As sin and flaws crept in, defective genes "joined" up and so more health problems.

But, I don't really know. Was not there :-)

Yes they did. The problem was that a lot of people died young (not just as infants) which brought the average age down. But if you lived to thirty you had a good chance of living to 40.

What I find interesting is that the bible states that people will not live beyond 120.

that is a very interesting thing from the bible.

as for living for 965 years as methuzela did, i dont know, perhaps if i could read the original hewbrew translation and work out whether a year mean what it really means.

A certificate by Britain's Guinness World Records recognising 114-year-old Yone Minagawa as the world's oldest person arrived by mail on Saturday at the town office of Fukuchi, Fukuoka Prefecture in Japan where she lives.

The certificate, which says, "The oldest person living,' will be presented to Minagawa by Fukuchi Mayor Koji Urata on Friday at the Keijuen special nursing home where she now lives.

Minagawa became the world's oldest person on January 28 this year after US women Emma Faust Tillman died on the day at the age of 114. In May, Fukuchi town asked Guinness World Records through the internet to award Minagawa a certificate.
