Lets look at the perils of communism.
To give an example of its horrors and how the public reacts to such a brutal system i shall quote paragraphs from James A Michener's book The Bridge at Andau, which covers the Hungarian revolt against communism in 1956.

At dawn on november 4 1956, communism showed its true character to the world.  with a ferocity and barbarism unmatched in recent history, it moved its brutal tanks against a defenceless population seeking escape from the terrors of communism,and destroyed it.
A city whose only offence was that it sought a decent life was shot to pieces. Dedicated Hungarian communists who had slightly deviated from the true russian line were shot down ruthlessly and hunted from house to house. Even workers ,on whom communism is supposed to be built were rounded up like animals and and shipped in seald goods vans to the ussr.  A satellite country which had dared to question russian domination was annihilated.
After what the russians did to hungary, after the destruction of a magnificent city,and after their treatment of fellow communists , the world need no longer have even the slimmest doubt as to what communisms intentions are. Hungary had laid bare the great communist lie.

In Hungary, Russia demonstrated that her programme is simple. Infiltrate a target nation, get immediate control of the police, initiate a terror which removes all intellectual and labour leadership, deport to siberia troublesome people (to the state), and then destroy the nation completely if the least sign of independence shows itself. This final step in the russian plan is what took place in Hungary.
From this point on it is difficult to imagine native born communists in italy of france, England or America trusting blindly that if they joined the russian orbit their fate would be any different.
At the first invitation from some dissident communist group inside the nation, russian tanks will roll in and destroy the capital city, terrorize the population and deport to slave labour camps in central asia most of the local communist leaders who organised the communist regime in the first place.
I write this to remind free men everywhere that there is no hope for a nation that allows itself to be swept into the orbit of international communism. There can only be one outcome: Terror and the loss of every freedom. This is what communism truly means.

In spite of its propaganda that only communism can build a classless society, the system is actually built apon a horde of subtle class distinctions. Certain members of the party get all the rewards of society- the best apartments, the best radios,the best food, the best clothing- and it is by these bribes that communism builds an inner core of trusted leaders. The rest of the people can starve, for they are not of the elite,and since they lack power they can do nothing to harm the regime.

Under communism a young couple cannot live unless each works ten hours a day. The price structure is kept so high that they can afford nothing, even with such slave hours.
Communist leaders were able to make purchases at special stores where the reduction was sometimes 70%. The working people ate little and wore less.
