Title: Lamad Post by sprintcyclist on May 14th, 2007 at 10:23pm
Lamad is the Hebrew word for "To teach."
Lamad is the Hebrew word for "To learn." Exactly the same word means both to teach and to learn in Hebrew. Which is quite right. If a teacher teaches, but noone learns, they have not taught. If someone learns, someone has taught. Whether they meant to or not. They did. Lamad (to me) refers to the transferral of knowledge from one person to another. The action, what occurs, what happened. It is the relationship. At times when I am learning, I am surprised at the eagerness of people to teach. It is as though they have to, as though they get something from it. They are hungry to teach. At times when someone thinks they are learning from me I learn MUCH in "teaching." I receive a LOT from teaching, from giving. It is a great blessing to me. Lamad, with one of those funny squiggles above the first "a". |

I find the easiest way to teach myself something and to make sure I know it inside out is to try explaing it to someone else.

yes, trying to teach something certainly makes me think about it.
Then sometimes they ask a question !!! The cheek of it all. Often I learn something quite new about a topic I already "knew" when I teach . |
