Title: Meanings of words
Post by sprintcyclist on May 1st, 2007 at 4:34pm
At home I have a concordance.  (A big impressive book)
One of the things it has in it is the original meaning of every word in the Bible.

The meanings in in the Hebrew, Aramaic and/or ancient Greek languages.

If anyone wants to know the original meaning of any word or name just ask here and I will post the answer.

The word "religion" or "religious" appears in my Bible 11 times.
It has a few different root words, as it is given over such a time period and 3 different languages.

Here is a summary of all the meanings of "religion/religious" in the NIV Bible.

1/ Deadly
2/ Sorry, all others just come up as meaning religious or worshipping.
I did hear it also means bondage.

Both meanings are entiraly appropriate and most people would agree with them

In contrast the words "Spirit/spiritual" is used 533 times.
Guess which one we are intended to be ?

Semite is not in my Bible. Apparenlty it means people who speak a semitic language, ie either jews or arabs. original word is Shem, one of noahs sons.

The concordance says

"Jew" - "men of Judah" or "judean"

"arab" - "desert or steppe" or "of arabia, maybe also bedouin"

"Shem" - "name,fame"  ?????

Ah so bible does not have it. must be a recent name given then.
But i do know that semite refers to the middle eastern race.
There is no ''Arab'' race, as arab means Nomad in arabic.
So is it not funny that the palestinians and jews fight eachother- they are the same bloody people! :-?

"Moses" means "drawn out", is Egyptian for "child".

God used Moses to draw his people out of slavery from Egypt.
The Jews are Gods first children.
