The battle is between the Spiritual nature and the Worldly pleasures.

Spiritual ways are in opposition to many worldly ways.
To donate in the world has no "advantage" to it, there is no "worldly" reason to donate.
Donating is liberating.

To forgive someone may seem a weak thing to do in the wordly ways. Try to do it, it can be very tough to do.
Forgiving is freeing

The "world" would have us miserly and bitter with unforgiveness.

Our hearts know what is right.  Even before being told.
Spiritually we know what is good. It is innate to us.

Then the brain interferes.  
What our Heart tells us is right, without thinking is sometimes questioned by the calculating fearing selfish mind.

We know first in our hearts, later on our minds accept it as well. All being well and good.
