Title: PS3 Post by sprintcyclist on Mar 25th, 2007 at 8:38pm
Got a PS3 the other day. Put a deposit on one a long time ago - for the boys.
It is a bit of a swizz in a way, it does not play most of the PS 2 games we have !!!! I assumed it would be backwardly compatible, as is everything else. Very powerful, it is more a computer that also plays games, than a game playing toy. It can go online, is bluetooth enabled. |

Im sorry but I think PS machines are a bigtime scam. No sooner we get one and its superceded. And a lot of the time the old games dont play on it and we have to go out and buy expensive games to use it.
PS3 is not doing any more then the PS2 really..2 can access the internet etc and is interactive as well if one wants to make use of the features , to be honest most kids just want a machine that plays games and use it ONLY for game playing. My boy loves his PS2 and its fine for him..His fave game is Socom at the moment Fine if you have plenty of disposable income. I think the new ipod is nifty. |

Hangon there, playstations are hardly ever superseded, the PS2 has been around for years and is still relevant (still has better graphics than the brand new wii!), unlike the PC I had at the time when the PS2 came out. Playstation was launched in 1994, and there have been two updates in the last 13 years...
The PS3 is also an absolute technical marvel, it is designed for the future and will take years for its full potential to be recognised, it isn't even comparable to the PS2 at the time it came out. The PS3 is all PC hardware (so was the PS2) but you cannot buy a PC off the shelf with the same specs as a PS3 for the same price, Sony is losing money on the PS3. Yes I am a bit of a playstation fanboy :) Sorry to disagree with you again ausgirl, just don't take it to heart ;) |

thanks zoso.
One kid is keen for me to buy him a new ps3 game - any suggestions ?? The PS2 has been a remarkable machine. Its performance encouraged me to get the PS3 (and one son's enthusiasm and at the time I was making good money !!). Will get another controller, have one on order. I am a junior member - how embarassing. At least got 2 stars. Is that a sergeant , or something ?? |

Just a bit of information that none of you will need just yet, but I did wonder why my nephew - same age as my son - is an extremely fast and aggressive driver - while my son is cautious. My nephew has been addicted to Playstation games for as long as I can remember, where my son had only a half hearted interest.
It could be coincidental - but: Psychology experts have taken the "media priming" effects of popular video console and PC-based games on the road, finding that virtual racing seems to lead to aggressive driving and a propensity for risk taking. Extending previous findings on how aggressive virtual-shooter games increase aggression-related thoughts, feelings and behaviors, scientists at Munich's Ludwig-Maximilians University and the Allianz Center for Technology observed that of 198 men and women, those who play more virtual car-racing games were more likely to report that they drive aggressively and get in accidents. Less frequent virtual racing was linked to more cautious driving. The findings are reported in the recent issue of the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied, which is published by the American Psychological Association. Linking media priming effects the way virtual aggression can lead to the real thing -- to behavior, a second study observed that men who played even one virtual racing game subsequently took significantly higher risks in critical traffic situations on a computer simulator than did men who played a neutral game. Sixty-eight men were in this study. Finally, the scientists assigned 83 men to play either typical racing or neutral games on a Sony Playstation. In the racing games, say the authors, "To win, participants had to massively violate traffic rules (e.g., drive on the sidewalk, crash into other cards, drive at high speed)." Those who raced subsequently reported a significantly higher accessibility of thoughts and feelings associated with risk-taking than did those who played a neutral game......... http://medicineworld.org/news/psychology-news.html |

Title: I got first !!!!!!!!!!! Post by sprintcyclist on Mar 31st, 2007 at 10:20pm
Won my first PSanything race in "MotorStorm". (Where is the "puffdupchest icon?)
The old PS2 is 4 years old, it had been out for a while before that. mantra - yes, sort of hard to say if the kids personality was always that way, or the games made it that way it. As you said, your nephew always liked them, yopur son never. What came frst, the egg or the chicken ? Anyway, the point is - I WON !!!!!!!!!!!! :) HHHHHhhoooooooo daaa maaaaannnnn ??? |

Exactly. I think you have a correlation there mantra, not causation :) I have played tons of extremely violent video games myself and don't particularly find them making me want to go out and be violent. I'm a total pacifist. |

The study mantra posted indicates a causal relationship.

Nahh F*uck yars.
I still enjoy my Hanimex game of Pong. I've saved about $150,000 not upgrading to better systems all through these years... and you know what? I've still got the highest score in Pong in the world. :P Just watch this clip and feel that relaxing ambient sound. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=hanimex+ping+pong+game&&view=detail&mid=1A95E36051D446166E2A1A95E36051D446166E2A&&FORM=VRDGAR&ru=%2Fvideos%2Fsearch%3Fq%3Dhanimex%2520ping%2520pong%2520game%26qs%3Dn%26form%3DQBVR%26%3D%2525eManage%2520Your%2520Search%2520History%2525E%26sp%3D-1%26pq%3Dhanimex%2520ping%2520pong%2520gam%26sc%3D1-21%26sk%3D%26cvid%3DF40B95561BC64F87B9A0012199E5BB55%26ghsh%3D0%26ghacc%3D0%26ghpl%3D |
